A Big Wheel RV Park, Saint Marys, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

I usually post reviews after I leave a park and seldom more than one per park. We, however, have a history with this park, our first RV winter 6 years ago and many short and long stays since then. The positive changes we find do not disappoint. The camping area has been opened up in terms of excessive vegetation being removed leaving a nicely landscaped park. The surrounding area has also been cleared leaving plenty of places to walk with or without a pet. Customer service is still first-rate including a weekly pot-luck dinner. Utilities are good and restrooms/laundry are fine. Located on the road that ends at the Crooked River traffic noise is minimal. After 6 years of semi-full time RVing this park is in our top five. We camped at A Big Wheel RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Base camp for exploring coastal Georgia and Okefenokee Swamp. Noth Florida beaches or nearby. St. Marys-Kingsland has everyday supplies (Walmart, groceries, Lowes) and specialties are in Jacksonville. Good selection of restaurants without the inflated prices in Florida tourist areas. Nearby golfing at Kings Bay Navy Base (open to public). The town of St. Marys is old with historic architecture and riverfront.

Heartland RV Park & Cabins, Hermosa, South Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large park that is getting larger. Utilities are fine and many amenities, pool, propane, 3 laundry/bathhouses. This year during the season they served an inexpensive breakfast daily and had wine tasting, entertainment, and ice cream socials. the work camper staff is great. It is convenient to Black Hills activities and shopping in Rapid City. It isan open park and the wind can be fierce. The Hwy 79 is noisy and the occasional train is also. They have liberal discounts, Passport and Escapees but the monthly rate is rather steep. We camped at Heartland RV Park & Cabins in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a small grocery in Hermosa. Walmart in Rapid City is less than a 1/2 hour. Custer State Park is a must for wildlife. Some mountain-like driving and tight tunnels. Plan your routes if using a Class B or C. Driving times may be longer than you think looking at a map. Planning outings will pay.

Trailing Edge Park, Limon, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Do not understand a 9.3 average rating. This is a convenient park off I-80 and more economical than KOA. It is an overnight park. No frills. It is new so the utilities are first rate. Currently a home base for windmill construction workers. Call for reservation! When arriving you will have to call for owner who may or may not be on site. As a travel stop or a couple of nights we would use it again. We camped at Trailing Edge Park in a Travel Trailer.

Ute Bluff Lodge, South Fork, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

One of the better parks in the area. Sites are close but divided by rail fence. Other parks can be tighter. Utilities are fine. Rec room and 2 machine laundry are good. Outside of town so a bit less hassle. Great base camp for adventures in the mountains. Excellent management. We camped at Ute Bluff Lodge in a Travel Trailer.

Conejos River Campground, Antonito, Colorado

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Quite adequate as base camp for fishing, scenery, Cumbres and Totec Railroad. Utilities fine. Site may or may not need one-block leveling. Quiet. Wifi worked most of the time, sometimes a bit slow. Our Tracfone and Virgin Mobile phones did not work nor our ATT hotspot for wifi. Phones had good signal in Antonito. Would stay here again. We camped at Conejos River Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Antonito has a grocery story with good variety and small town prices although some deals on meat. Three restaurants including the burger stand. One high-priced gas station. Lower price in La Jara 14 miles north. Antonito is the east end of the Cumbres and Toltec railroad that runs to Chama NM.

Santa Fe KOA, Santa Fe, New Mexico

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

My opinion of KOAs is they are usually nice parks but overpriced. This park fits that observation. It is the smallest KOA we have used. I cannot think of any drawbacks. Nice people, good utilities, convenient, and attractive. It is far enough from Santa Fe to avoid the confusion but close enough to take advantage of what the city has to offer. The staff will provide all necessary info. I would grumble about the rent but would stay here again. We camped at Santa Fe KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel, Bernardo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Change in owners since our last visit in 2016. The park is quite good as far as sites and utilities. Weekly has electricity add-on. Wifi is one day then you can buy a plan from the server. Sites are wide and you can park next to your rig. The office/rec room has been redecorated and the John Wayne and other "manly" items are gone. Still a plethora of pro-gun signs at the entrance. There were no firearms visible during the week. This is not to judge but to forewarn people who might be uncomfortable with this. We would be glad to stay here again. We camped at Kiva RV Park and Horse Motel in a Travel Trailer.

This a good base camp for visiting the Salinas Missions, wildlife refuges, and The Very Large Array Radio Telescope facility. Shopping and fuel are 15-25 miles in Belen and Socorro. The Road Runner train from Belen is a hassle free way to get to downtown Santa Fe.

USA RV Park, Gallup, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Good park. Utilities were fine, easy to maneuver, site was level. Convenient to attractions, Canyon de Chelly, Painted Desert/Petrified Forest. Some occasional noise from airport and trains but not oppressive. Very convenient to I-40 but far enough away to eliminate traffic noise. Occasional noise from Old 66 in front of park. Sewer does not have "screw-in" fittings. Second time here and would use this park again. We camped at USA RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sleeping Ute RV Park (formerly Ute Mountain Casino RV Park), Towaoc, Colorado

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Above average RV "Park." One block leveling on one side. Utilities were fine. Some shade. Good separation distance from Casino (we do not play). Nice view of "The Sleeping Ute." Park staff and restaurant staff at casino were very nice. Fuel and convenience store. Quieter than Cortez parks. This will be a return destination if needed. We camped at Sleeping Ute RV Park (formerly Ute Mountain Casino RV Park) in a Travel Trailer.

This works as base camp for a range of activities. History is our interest and Mesa Verde, Hovenweep, Canyon of the Ancients are nearby. A bit farther is the Durango Silverton RR and Monument Valley. Outdoors stuff, hiking and Kayaking are there. Groceries and such Walmart, Safeway, City Market. a variety of restaurants including Kuchus at the casino. Not gourmet but slightly above many chains, affordable and convenient.

Rio Chama RV Park, Chama, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Park is comfortable, shade trees, wildlife, quiet, and the utilities were fine. Staff was friendly and helpful. It would rate a 7 in general. My personal bias as a rail-fan enters at this point. The park has railroad equipment and access to a spot near the river/bridge to watch the daily train leave and return. If you are in Chama because of the railroad this is your park. We camped at Rio Chama RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

This area of New Mexico/Colorado is beautiful. The Cumbres and Toltec RR will not disappoint if you are a rail-fan or just want an excursion into the mountains. Groceries are limited. Restaurants are good although prices do reflect a tourist trade. Nice Laundromat near the CG. If not native, take care about altitude.

Crossroads RV Park & Campground, Lyndon, Kansas

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

The entry is rutted but the interior lanes are acceptable. Nice person but needs help. Mowing was not getting done. Sewer cap at our site was "mudded in" and could not be removed and I had no time to dig it out. W/E were fine. CG has a large tornado shelter. Mix of seasonals and traveling workers, majority of the rigs in good shape although some sites were cluttered. It is fine for a day or two.
