The Vineyard at Fredericksburg RV Park (formerly Quiet Creek RV Resort, Fredericksburg, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This is a clean, well-maintained RV Park, big-rig friendly with lots of amenities (pool, jacuzzi, laundry, exercise room, cable TV, etc.). Interior roads are hard-surfaced; sites are long, gravel pull-throughs, not too tight, with grass in between; little or no shade. Our site, at the front of the park, required leveling, and there was some road noise from Hwy. 87; sites farther down the hill appeared more level, and were probably more quiet. We requested a site near the large, fenced dog run with grass; which more than made up for a little road noise. We would stay here again. We camped at The Vineyard at Fredericksburg RV Park (formerly Quiet Creek RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

San Angelo State Park, San Angelo, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This review is for Red Arroyo Campground, at the Park's South entrance, overlooking O.C. Fisher Lake. There are good hard-surface entrance roads and sites. Many sites are pull-throughs, some long back-ins; sites are spacious and mostly level. Each site has a concrete patio with a covered picnic table, which provides the only shade. There are trails for hiking and biking, nearby lake access, and several OTA-TV channels. Only one dump station (1 RV at a time). HEB and Walmart are about 10-minutes away. Park staff is friendly and helpful. We would stay here again. We camped at San Angelo State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Stockton RV Park, Fort Stockton, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This is a clean, well-maintained RV Park; easy-on/off I-10, that is big-rig friendly. Hard surface interior roads and sites; sites are long pull-throughs, not too tight, with green space between sites. There is a large, fenced dog park with grass, that my dogs enjoyed; and an on-site restaurant that serves breakfast and supper, that I enjoyed. We would stay here again. We camped at Fort Stockton RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Bend Resort & Adventures RV Park & Campground (Big Bend Motor Inn), Terlingua, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

To call this RV Park a "Resort" is a stretch of the imagination. The owners seem focused on the Motel and "River Adventures" and the RV Park is just a sideline. Pros: The location is good; a short distance from the West entrance to Big Bend National Park. The interior roads are gravel, as are the sites; fairly level, roomy back-ins. The park was clean and quiet, at least when we were there. The trails around their Desert Golf Course were a nice place to walk my dogs. Cons: There is very little grass, and a few small trees (don't expect shade). No OTA TV reception, no WiFi, spotty cell service, and the water is nasty-tasting. Bring your water for drinking, coffee, and cooking. Check-in is from 4:00 - 6:00 pm; even though check-out is 11:00 a.m. You must stop at the Office to check out if you want your receipt. This RV Park was OK as a base camp for Big Bend National Park, but next time I'll try to reserve a spot inside the National Park. We camped at Big Bend Resort & Adventures RV Park & Campground (Big Bend Motor Inn) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

If you have time, take the drive west along Hwy. 170 from Terlingua to Presidio. Its a pretty mountain drive with views of the Rio Grande, and mountains just across the river in Mexico.

Davis Mountains State Park, Fort Davis, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This State Park campground is nestled in a valley surrounded by the beautiful Davis Mountains. Interior roads and sites are paved; ours required some leveling. We had no cell phone service, but our site had full hookups and cable TV. Sites vary a lot - numbers 1 through 27 are better for big rigs, most are roadside pull-throughs. I would recommended a reservation; the larger sites were mostly full when we were there. We would stay here again. We camped at Davis Mountains State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hacienda RV Resort, Las Cruces, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

This big-rig friendly park is easy-on/easy-off from I-10, very clean and well-maintained. Interior roads are paved; and sites are long pull-throughs, small-sized gravel, and mostly level. Many sites have fencing, trees and shrubs for extra privacy. There are smaller back-in sites around perimeter of park. Park offers WiFi, cable TV, and a long, fenced, gravel dog run. There are many more amenities that we didn't use, since we only stayed overnight. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Hacienda RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tombstone RV Park and Campground, Tombstone, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This is a clean, well-maintained campground, which is big-rig friendly. It is worth the short 2-mile drive (or you can ride their shuttle) to Historic Tombstone. RV parks in town looked very tight. Good gravel interior roads and sites. Short-term sites are long, mostly level pull-throughs, which are fairly roomy. There is a fenced, gravel dog area, a large swimming pool and laundry. Dirt trail (ATV road?) behind camping area was good for walking my dogs. Owners are friendly and helpful. No OTA TV reception or AT&T service, though Verizon worked OK. We would stay here again. We camped at Tombstone RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Picacho Peak State Park, Picacho, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Pros: This is a clean, picturesque campground nestled in the foothills of Picacho Peak; a short distance from I-10. Good, paved interior roads; spacious, paved sites (some pull-throughs, some back-ins) that are mostly level. This is a very good campground for hiking and dog walking with mountain views, rock formations, large Saguaro and other desert plants. Cons: There is electric only (no water at sites) yet the camping fee is the same as State Parks with water and electric. The restroom/shower facility was clean, but unheated, with no hot water (at least in the showers I tried). If you don't hike, there is not much to do in the immediate area. We would stay here again if passing through the area. We camped at Picacho Peak State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Lost Dutchman State Park, Apache Junction, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This is probably my favorite campground in Arizona, in the foothills of the awesome Superstition Mountains. There are good, paved interior roads; spacious, mostly level, paved sites; with impressive mountain and desert views. Campground is clean and well-maintained. There are easy hiking trails within the Park, and trails up into the Superstitions for the more adventurous. Shopping, restaurants, etc. are only about 5 miles away, in Apache Junction. The campground was full the whole time we were there, with quite a few in overflow. I'd recommend a reservation well in advance, at least in the Winter. The only negative I saw is a shortage of restroom/shower facilities - only two buildings for 130-plus campsites. If you're not self-contained, this could be a problem. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Catalina State Park, Tucson, Arizona

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

One of the best State Parks we've visited; with good, paved interior roads; paved, level sites with plenty of room in between, and views of the Santa Catalina mountains. Great park for bicycling and hiking, or just walking your dogs. Campground is quiet with a rural feel, even though shopping and restaurants are minutes away. Reserve well ahead to get a site, at least in the Winter months. The only improvement I would suggest is that they mark the campground loop roads with the site numbers, instead of just "back-in sites" and "pull-through sites". We weren't the only ones who made several trips around the loops looking for their site. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Catalina State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Blue Goose Thrift Store, about 5 miles north on Oracle, is a find. Very clean store with lots of "treasures" and no yukky thrift-store smell. Run by volunteers, its only open 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground, Elephant Butte, New Mexico

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This review is for the Lions Beach campground, which has lake view sites. Good, gravel interior roads; spacious, level, back-in sites with paved patio and covered picnic table. The water level was low, so the lake view wasn't real pretty, but we saw bunnies, cute little quail and a road runner. Some sites require reservations, so its best to call and reserve, even in the off-season. We would stay here again. We camped at Elephant Butte Lake State Park, Lions Beach Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Colorado City State Park, Colorado City, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is 5 miles off I-20. Good paved interior roads and spacious sites, some pull-throughs and some back-ins. Our site (#41) was a long, gravel, pull-through with a lake view, and a covered picnic table. We had to do some leveling, but most sites appeared to be fairly level. We would stay here again. Cowtown RV Park, Aledo, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

This is a large RV park, with easy access off I-20. There is one wide, paved interior road, the others are gravel. Sites are long, level pull-throughs, many are paved, some are gravel. Sites are fairly tight, but not too bad - plenty of room for slide-outs. There is an escort to site, cable TV, and trash bins placed conveniently throughout park. There are 3 good-sized, fenced dog runs with grass, which my dogs enjoyed. We would stay here again. We camped at Cowtown RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
