Ozark / Fort Rucker KOA, Ozark, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

Over night stay heading back home. Park has been improved considerably since our last stay. Nice walking area around a pond with lights that changed color. KOI pond was very nice. FHU site with cable TV access is very level concrete with a nice picnic table that converts into a pair of settee's. Traffic noise is minimal. We camped at Ozark / Fort Rucker KOA in a Motorhome.

Lazy Acres RV Park, Lenoir City, Tennessee

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We had some fun finding the manager in the park, but after he chased us down, he lead us right to the pull through FHU site and helped us get situated. Nice level gravel site with pleasant neighbors. Lots of residents. Bathrooms and Laundry room very nice and clean. Many O-T-A TV channels available including PBS. Verizon voice and data was good (3 to 4 bars). Interesting square picnic table. We camped at Lazy Acres RV Park in a Motorhome.

Uniontown KOA, Connellsville, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

Campground is situated along a shallow river with CSX double track on the other side, and lots of rafters and kayakers drifting by. We were situated right by the river and it was a lovely view. The seasonal campers are away from the river front so the travelers and weekends have the river view. Entry and exit are gated. One of the cleanest parks we've been to this summer. All facilities worked properly. Sewer line inlet was above my drain so I had to use the Sewer Solution to empty the tanks. The provided cable-TV has a limited channel selection and no local PBS station. The provided WiFi was excellent, even on the weekends. Laundry room is air conditioned and very clean, as are the washers and dryers. Trash is picked up twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Verizon voice and data is weak. We had to go outside the motorhome to make phone calls. The small cafe offers pizza and hot dogs along with a variety of ice creams. You have to go get it, they don't deliver. Yes, we would return here is we are in the area.

Just a heads up: The public road leading up to the park entrance is a steep downhill (and by converse, steep uphill going out), but there is a sign to remind you to down shift. CSX is on 160.23mhz. We camped at Uniontown KOA in a Motorhome.

Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA, Williamsport, Maryland

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $56.00
Overall Rating:

The road into this campground is narrow and, at times, very rough. The campground is very busy on the weekends. Water and electric worked as required. Sewer inlet was on the same level as my outlet, so getting a proper drain was a challenge. The provided cable TV had a limited channel selection but does include a PBS station. WiFi worked well during the week but was close to unusable on the weekends. Verizon voice and data was excellent. Kamp workers are super nice and made our week here very enjoyable. We will return here if we return to this area. We camped at Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA in a Motorhome.

Very close to civilization so access to restaurants and shopping is easy. There is a Pilot Travel Stop at I-70, exit 24, just outside the campground. Freshly layed chicken eggs are available in the office cooler for purchase.

Black Bear Campground, Florida, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

Overnight stop heading south toward Maryland. Many upgrades have been made to this campground since our stay in 2014. We were on the lower tier this time. FHU site was very level and all utilities worked well. Provided cable TV had limited channels and no PBS station. Provided WiFi worked exceptionally well. Bath house is a 3 set of WC, sink and shower. At 3 pm, the were very clean on inspection. Verizon data and voice was 1 bar. We would stay here again if we pass this way. We camped at Black Bear Campground in a Motorhome.

Pine Hollow Campground, Pownal, Vermont

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Very basic campground nestled into the pine trees of Southern Vermont. Sites are in a circular pattern around a nice fishing pond with the FHU sites on the east side up on a terrace. There is a lighted fountain in the middle of the pond. Electric, water, sewer, cable TV and WiFi worked well. They have just upgraded the WiFi system and I saw speeds up to 27mbps occasionally. Provided cable TV has channels 2 thru 13 which includes two PBS channels. Additionally, Vermont Public TV is available over the air because a VPT set of channels is broadcasting from Pownal. Verizon voice and data are one bar. I had to step outside the MH to make phone calls. Our experience here was positive and we would come here again if we are in the area. We camped at Pine Hollow Campground in a Motorhome.

Country Aire Campground, Charlemont, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Spent 3 weeks here at the park. Our site: 93, was surrounded by trees and a bit away from the neighboring campsites. Campground is well back off the beaten path. Dead quiet at night. Campground host and owners could not have been more accommodating. Campground is a mix of seasonal, motor home, travel trailer and tent camping. Not many campers here during the week, but crowded and active on the weekends. The owners are working to expand the park to accommodate more campers. Water and sewer worked fine, however, on hot days with the campground full (weekends), electrical line voltage can drop to levels of concern, so be sure you have your power conditioner in service. Bath rooms and showers are dated but well maintained. Office has a small deli with a very limited menu (as the owners say: nothing here is healthy). They make donuts and danish on site and they are well worth a purchase. The camper supply area is well stocked, much more than I would have anticipated. The provided WiFi had the usual fits and starts. It was basically useless when the park is crowded (weekends), but in the middle of the week it worked fine. Provided (extra charge) TV (via DISH) has a limited channel line up (no PBS) but is clear and always worked. Verizon voice and data access are excellent. We highly recommend this campground to you. We camped at Country Aire Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This campground is on the north end of the Historic Connecticut River Valley (dating from the 1600's) right on the Mohawk Trail (MA Route 2). There are may historic towns (Deerfield, Hatfield, Northampton), plus activities (rafting and zip lining). A good internet search will get you started. There is a Big Y, Staples, Home Depot about 12 miles to the east of the campground at the I-91 roundabout. There is a smaller grocery store in Shelburne Falls.

Boston / Cape Cod KOA, Middleboro, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here for 17 days to see the area and perform some genealogical research. Cost per night is an average of the daily rate and the much higher "holiday" or weekend rate. The campground is nicely wooded in a fairly urban environment. All services worked as required. Water pressure is very high, so bring your pressure regulator and verify that is works. The site was not as level as indicated, but, with a combination of ramps, I was able to get the MH close to level. Site was all gravel and, after the two rains that we had, and mud. We were in the "Highlands" section which has no bathhouse. Lower bathhouse has the laundry room with 6 washers and 6 dryers. (We used a local laundromat to do our wash to save time and money). I walked through the bathhouse in the lower camping area and it is clean, but has that "well used" appearance. We've seen this before at KOA's as well as other "seasonal" campgrounds: not enough bathhouse to handle the tent camping demand. Verizon voice and data worked fine. Since you are sitting between Boston and Providence, over-the-air TV out performs the provided cable TV in quantity and quality of programming. The office staff was very pleasant to work with and they provided local information that gets you orientated to the area. Interior roads are paved or gravel. We have stayed in other campgrounds in this area and will not return to this campground. We camped at Boston / Cape Cod KOA in a Motorhome.

Bar Harbor / Oceanside KOA, Bar Harbor, Maine

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $72.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice campground looking out over a bay. FHU with cable TV worked well. Verizon voice and data strong. The provided WiFi was okay. The restrooms are spacious and shower stalls very clean. Very pleasant. The Island Shuttle is not running this early but car rental is available at the little airport just north of the campground (no airport fees charged). We stayed for a week and really enjoyed the Mount Desert/Acadia National Park. We camped at Bar Harbor / Oceanside KOA in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We learned that the Island Shuttle doesn't run until school is out and the bus drivers are available to drive the shuttle. We did most of our shopping in Ellsworth because of congestion in the city of Bar Harbor this time of year (June, 2019). Keep track of the cruise ship arrivals at Bar Harbor. When a ship is in, the downtown is very crowded. We ate a nice lobster at Beal's down in SW Harbor.

Century Farm Family Campground, St. Martins, New Brunswick

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

FHU site 31 is the last site on the end of the row. There is nothing between you and the Bay but open space, the the levee that they call "the beach". The owners live on site and are very accommodating. We arrived in Mid June when schools were still in session and there was very few people visiting the Village of St. Martins. Local restaurants provide good food but, IMHO, quite pricey. You pay the same price USD or Canadian dollar. The view from site 31 is spectacular. This farm dates from the 1700's as a ship building facility. Be prepared, Route 111 from Saint Johns, NB is extremely rough. For us, this was a one time trip, but I would return here if the situation presents itself. We camped at Century Farm Family Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

At this point along the Bay of Fundy, the tide level changes an average of 26 feet twice per day. Be sure to visit the local museum and walk around the Caves at low tide. Bring boots for the Cave walk. The stones can be hard on your feet. The Village of St. Martins has few facilities so you will need to stock up on supplies before heading this way. Black flies are also a problem in May and June, but because of the windy conditions during our stay, they were not a major problem.

Wassamki Springs, Scarborough, Maine

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Positives: FHU site is very level and all utilities, including the cable TV work fine. It's "the season" and there is a lot going on on the weekends. Only 5 miles to the Maine Mall and 10 miles to the water front. Negatives: Park is pretty much Flat and when it rains, the water pools. At our site, I1, the land slopes away from our gravel pad and is unusable until the water dries up. The picnic table is in the middle of the rain pool. Road are some kind of sand, which gets tracked everywhere. Entry is paved asphalt, exit was washboard sand. I chose this campground due to the proximity to the Main Mall hotels for my veterans reunion. Otherwise, I would be down in Old Orchard Beach. There are a lot of full time residents in the park who are friendly as you normally find people from Maine. A comment on the noise level: This campground is on the flight path for Portland airport runway 11/29, so if the plane is not loudly landing over your head, it's loudly taking off overhead. The nice thing is, Portland airport is not all that active and the planes arrive and depart in groups, so there are hours between flights. Sadly, the first arrivals overhead are at 5:30 am local time but the airport appears to shut down at 10 to 11 pm. We camped at Wassamki Springs in a Motorhome.

Bear Creek Campground, Bristol, Connecticut

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Interesting park next to some type of attraction and some type of garbage processing plant with a BIG fan that is constantly droning. Sites are back-to-back. The assigned site was very level and both utilities, water and electric worked properly. The provided cable TV was okay, with a limited selection. Bathrooms were very clean. Since this is early June and in the middle of the week, there are few campers in the park but we bunched everyone together in the first row, which is the nearest point to the bathhouse. No problem using dump station on exit (nobody around). We camped at Bear Creek Campground in a Motorhome.

Very nice clean "resort" park just north of Richmond, Va. Pull through site was level. All utilities and TV cable worked as they should. Front office staff as well as field workers very pleasant to interact with. Verizon voice and data excellent. There is a morning "continental" breakfast that was a little lacking in choices, but nice. This campground sit next to I-95, but we were back far enough the the traffic noise was not a problem. Florence RV Park (formerly Florence KOA), Florence, South Carolina

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Basically, this is a good overnight stop along I-95. Positives: The lady who checked us in was very pleasant and nice to work with. Sight was level and all hookups worked correctly. Negatives: No cable TV was available. Cigarette butts are everywhere. The amount of Canadian Geese droppings are greatly reduced this visit. I think someone was cleaning out our fire pit (tire rim) and got called away and never returned to finish the job. Site that we were put in was very closely packed with the neighbors. Based on my previous stay, quality has neither declined nor improved. We camped at Florence RV Park (formerly Florence KOA) in a Motorhome.
