Scenic Park Campground, South Sioux City, Nebraska

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Quite possibly the nicest city-run campground I have ever stayed at. Was going to spend only 2 nights, but a late spring blizzard in SD forced us to stay 6 nights. Luckily they had a lot of spaces to choose from. Long and wide sites. A lot of space between sites. Easy to maneuver around the loop roads as long as one of the permanent residents doesn't decide to park half in the road. Some sites have a nice view of the river. No fenced dog run, but lots of places to walk the dog. Too bad some permanent residents do not pick up their dogs' waste. Reported it to the office, no idea if they will tell the offender to clean their mess. Plenty to do in Sioux City. Would definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Scenic Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Smith's Fork Campground, Smithville, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Only overnighted here. No signage directing you to the campground from County Rd DD, so be careful or you'll have to turn around. Park seems to have been built for smaller coaches, despite their reservation system accepting big rigs. The drive thru sites are short and built with a bend in them. I think this place is overpriced and I would not return. We camped at Smith's Fork Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Ozark View RV Park, Omaha, Arkansas

Date of Stay: April, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Planned to stay 5 nights, ended up staying for 9. Really nice location. Park is basic with few amenities, but the location is fantastic for a quiet, relaxing stay. Many sites are very big rig friendly. Park entrance and exit are wide and the interior road is easy to navigate. Sites vary in length and width. I got lucky and had one on a hill behind the office. Easy drive to Branson for shows if you're into that and an easy drive to Harrison for supplies. Great spot for motorcycling the Ozarks. Would definitely stay here again if in the area. We camped at Ozark View RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Downtown Riverside RV Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here 2 nights. Got a back-in site on the river. Sites are long. Backing in to the site would have been very difficult if a toad had been in the driveway across from me. Thankfully, those people were not home at the time. The loop road is a bit narrow for backing a big 5er, but driving around it is easy. City street getting to the park are rough, but once inside, the roads are smooth. Lady in the office was less than friendly, almost as if I was bothering her. Maybe it is just her brand of customer service. Quiet park, despite being close to the interstate. Sitting on a bench and watching the river activity is relaxing. We camped at Downtown Riverside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Natchez Trace RV Park, Shannon, Mississippi

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Overnighted here. IMO, this park is NOT big rig friendly. Yes, you can get around, but you have to watch out for tree limbs and such. Sites are VERY close. Gravel driveway needs box bladed. Had a gully cut thru close to the entrance. Park is quiet. Not fenced dog run. Some trees, so satellite may be a challenge. Easy drive to Tupelo for supplies. We camped at Natchez Trace RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overnighted here. Close to the interstate, but not noisy. Set back off a busy street. Nothing special, but fine for a night or 2. Open sky so satellite should be fine. Sites are close and there is no fenced dog run. We camped at The Woods RV Park and Campground LLC in a Fifth Wheel.

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Have stayed here before. It is quiet and at night, it is VERY dark. Site was adequate. This is a decent place to stay. Only draw back is some permanent residents are really nosy and don't mind their own business. We camped at Old Town Campground 'N Retreat in a Fifth Wheel.

Sun and Fun Campground, Lakeland, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Campground is open to the public and located on an air museum property. Stayed in "Camp Duffy". There are numerous other RV sites available on the property outside Camp Duffy. Some are FHU, some are W&E only, 30 or 50 amp. Museum grounds are adjacent to a regional airport that has mostly propeller driven aircraft. Was not loud at all. Driving around after registration was easy. Roads are in good shape and wide enough for my dually and 40 ft fifth wheel. No fenced dog run, but plenty of open spaces to run the dog, just make sure you pick up after them. Water pressure was decent at 40ish psi. Wide open spaces so satellite was easy to dial in. If you have a 40 ft + coach, some sites are on the shorter side, so just be aware. I was there for an event, so the grounds were a bit busy. Could be a little tight if you're parked next to someone on each side. Site escort said they try NOT to put RVs right next to or behind each other...gives people room to spread out. Lots of permanent residents, but still lots of open spaces. Overall, it is a nice place. I would definitely stay here again if in the Lakeland area. MUCH, MUCH better than the RV park right off I-4 in Lakeland (behind the concrete sound barrier). There is a little bit of a drive to restaurants, but it isn't bad, maybe 15 minutes. We camped at Sun and Fun Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Lake Kissimmee State Park, Lake Wales, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

If you have an HDT pulling a big 5er, DO NOT come here. The campground loop roads are way too tight for a big rig like that. It seems like every curve in the loop roads has a big tree within inches of the road. If you're over 70', you're going to rub the tree with the side of your coach. The pivot points just will not cooperate. Sites are long and wide with a LOT of tree cover. Quiet day and night and VERY dark at night. We camped at Lake Kissimmee State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

John Prince Park Campground, Lake Worth, Florida

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

-Users in Feb are primarily snowbirds. Even the waterfront sites are FHU. I was surprised a sewer connection was available so close to water. Was told waterfront sites are for 14 days max. Backing into the site was not too bad even with my 42' 5er and long-bed crew cab dually. Parking on the grass is allowed. Decent spacing between sites, though some have more space than others. Jet skis buzzing along on the water was not distracting. No fenced dog run. Office said no personal fenced dog areas allowed at sites, but I saw them. Not a bad park, and I'm sure some long-termers love it, but in all honestly it really is nothing special, just another campground. We camped at John Prince Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Palm RV Park, Worthington Springs, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is another one of those times when I just don't understand the glowing reviews and high ratings. This park is really just a place to, well, park. Except for a little fishing pond, there are no amenities. Sites are good sized with FHU. Water pressure and volume are adequate, but on the low side. No breaker at the electrical box. If you arrive at night, it is D-A-R-K. The park sign is not illuminated, so you may miss the entrance. A Marathon gas station is just up the road, and it is easy to turn around there. Pretty quiet here except when a hot rodder decides to burn up the road. Verizon works well in the area and there are few trees to interfere with satellite. Not a lot of interaction with the owner or neighbors, meaning if you want to be left alone, you can be. The entrance may be a little tricky for a big rig, but once inside the gate you should not have any problems. At the PA rate, it isn't bad. No way I'd stay here at the regular rate though. We camped at Palm RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Zephyr Palms RV Park, Zephyrhills, Florida

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Nightly rating is based on PA and regular rate combined. Quiet park with a lot of snowbirds. Pretty easy to get in and out. The 2-lane road it is on does not get a lot of traffic. Interior roads are pretty narrow, but just go slow and you'll have no problems. Had a pull thru site, but couldn't pull thru when I left. Tow vehicle on the site across the street was in the way, so I backed out and drove around the park. Sites are just long enough to park my tow perpendicular to the RV. Width was good enough. Streets are one way and the way I was positioned at my site would have had me exit against the flow of traffic. Wifi worked fine for social media, but the wifi password was not included in my welcome packet. Had to ask another resident for it. Off leash dog area was fine. Despite a LOT of dogs in the park, I didn't see a single pile left behind anywhere. It is refreshing to be in a park with so many responsible dog owners. Hookups are at the rear of the site. Few trees so satellite reception was good. Would stay here again. We camped at Zephyr Palms RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Lake RV Resort, Citra, Florida

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

Can't beat the Passport America rate. Have stayed here before, but with so many snowbirds buying sites, I don't know how much longer they will be able to offer short term sites. I prefer the grass, back-in sites vs. the concrete pull thrus. Since no one was parked behind the site, I was able to pull thru. Grass sites are plenty wide and long. I estimate 25+' wide and 60' long. Utilities worked fine and are positioned well. Wifi was adequate. Not sure how well it works when the park has higher occupancy. Roads are open, but narrow. I bet backing into a site that is between 2 occupied sites could be a little tight. Will continue to use this park as often as we are in the area and as long as they have space. We camped at Grand Lake RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Hitchin Post Corral and Campground RV Park, Cottondale, Florida

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

The pull thru sites are right along I-10. If your air con is running, you probably won't hear the road noise, otherwise, you definitely will. This section of I-10 is not super busy, but the road noise is still loud. Back in sites are a bit further from the highway and may be quieter. Pull thrus are close together and wide open. Back ins are well treed and have more space in between. You can get sat signal from the open pull thrus but no way you'll get it in the back ins. There is one pull thru site in the same area as the back ins. It appears to be well shaded. Utilities worked fine. There was no one parked next to us so we had room, but like I said, pull thrus are close. The owner is a very nice lady. Railroad crossing at Dilmore St is a bit rough and Dilmore is a bumpy road, so take it easy. No way I'd pay full price to stay here. Even with the PA rate, there is nothing special about this place. Fine for an overnight, but I don't think I'd stay here for any longer than that. We camped at Hitchin Post Corral and Campground RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Los Amigos Mexican restaurant in Cottondale has excellent food and is about 5 minutes from the park. The Fajitas Mexicanos had a ridiculously large amount of meat (steak, pork, chicken and shrimp) compared to any other Mexican restaurant I've had fajitas at. I ended up bringing almost half the meat home. The salsa had a little zip, but was not overly spicy, just the way I like it.

Majestic Oaks RV Resort, Biloxi, Mississippi

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

I found nothing particularly special about this RV park. Sites are close together. Pull thrus are about 45' long and relatively narrow. You have to get the coach well to the left on the site to allow enough room to park your tow vehicle. All utilities worked fine. Some rules are not strongly enforced, possibly depending on occupancy. Two such rules are not parking on vacant sites and not parking in the street. I saw both rules being violated. Outside the park, it is located in not a great part of town, but inside the park was very quiet. There are a lot of other RV parks in the area. I'd stay at others to check them out before I'd come back to this one. We camped at Majestic Oaks RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
