Santa Cruz Ranch RV Resort, Scotts Valley, California

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

Heavily wooded park in redwood forest off Hwy 9. Back in site was tricky to get into for our 38 ft 5th wheel as it sat behind and at an angle to another site as well as the road. Once into the site it provided privacy and a view of the river below. Site was mostly level and access to electric, water, and sewer were convenient. Cable provided was adequate, and like most park wi-fis it worked well in hours of low demand. Verizon and Sprint with marginal service. Most of the other sites in the park were close together and the park was very full for the entire weekend. A small unfenced dog park was found at the end of our stay which was nice as it was not mentioned on the map or when we checked in. The park charges a $3 a day per dog fee. Fire rings are available in the office to rent . The town of Felton is approximately 5 minutes away and has all necessary services. Santa Cruz is approximately 15 minutes away. Be sure and follow the included directions into the park as Highway 9 is not suitable for big rigs. We camped at Santa Cruz Ranch RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Smithwoods RV Park, Felton, California

Date of Stay: October, 2019 - $68.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely, heavily wooded park situated in the Redwood Forest outside of Santa Cruz. We had site 100 which was an extra large level dirt and gravel back in site. At one time the site had been two separate sites so we had our choice of 2 towers. 50 amp service was steady, good water pressure and easy dump access. Cable TV with clear picture, but provided Wifi was non functional. Verizon and Sprint were spotty at best for voice and data. Small fenced dog park at the far south end of park near paved sports court. Laundry facilities looked clean and well maintained. Pool was open and heated. Entry into park down short steep hill. Friendly and helpful managers provide guided access to sites as interior roads are somewhat narrow in spots around redwood trees. Small town of Felton is 5 minutes away with all necessary services. Santa Cruz is 15 minutes down the 9 or 17. Park charges $2/day per dog fee. Visitors are required to pay $5/day. We would stay here again. We camped at Smithwoods RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sequoia RV Ranch, Three Rivers, California

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $58.00
Overall Rating:

This is the closest full-service park for larger rigs to Sequoia National Park. Located about two miles off of Highway 198 on a two-lane rural road. Easy check in with very nice staff. We had a mostly level full-service 50-amp pull through which was narrow but adequate. There was a concrete patio or slab which was showing cracking and wear but was nice as the dirt was extremely fine. Water pressure was low but adequate. Many sites have large trees and good shade. Had minimal Verizon or AT&T service and provided Wi-Fi was spotty at best. We did not use provided cable and had one station over the air. River was nice and there were dedicated paths down to the bank where you could walk. We were unable to eat outside at the picnic table due to the constant swarming of yellow jackets . Very nice partially shaded dog park was located at entrance of camp which was quite a walk from campsites. There seemed to be a lot of trash left by campers despite having adequate dumpsters available. The entire park was full over the weekend even in late September. The town of Three Rivers had several gifts stores, restaurants and a small grocery as well as fuel. We camped at Sequoia RV Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

Fillmore KOA, Fillmore, Utah

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Well maintained quiet park convenient to I-15. Long mostly level, partially shaded gravel pads with mid site easily accessed utilities. Grass pads between units. 60 OTA TV stations so did not use provided cable. Provided internet spotty but good Verizon data and mobile. Small but shaded and grass dog pen with bench. Park is small so office, pool and showers convenient. Fuel available for big rigs at freeway ramp. Would stay again. We camped at Fillmore KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Enchanted Highway Campground, Regent, North Dakota

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Located in a very small rural town at the end of the enchanted highway. As stated before it is basically a well mode and level field. Surface was level and allowed for rigs of any size. Electric power and water were easily access and worked well. Sewer dump flush to ground and covered with rock so be careful when backing in. Small town has grocery store, fuel and gift shop where you check in for RV park. Museum was not open when we were there but looked very interesting. 30 minute drive to 85 highway. Perfect stop for an overnight if you do not need showers or bathrooms. We camped at Enchanted Highway Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA, Devils Tower, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $71.00
Overall Rating:

Expensive park in desirable area, thus high price. Fills up quickly so reservations advised. Site was "best view" in park, which it was. Site involved very careful maneuvering to back our 38 ft fiver between a tree, post, narrow road and fence into unlevel fairly short soft gravel/dirt pad. We extended well past pad onto grassy sloping hill. Utilities at back of site worked well. Campground supplied internet weak. Verizon and Sprint with limited service. No OTA TV. Typical KOA amenities plus restaurant. Fenced dog area small. No fuel station nearby so fill up first. Located at gate to Devil's Tower. We camped at Devils Tower / Black Hills KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Ashland City RV Park (Kreher Park), Ashland, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful city owned park on Lake Superior in the cute town of Ashland. No reservations are taken unless you wish to stay a month or longer. We were able to get a lake front site though it was the only one available. The camp host informed us that all of the lakefront sites were reserved from July through September. Our extra large back in site was mostly level packed dirt and gravel. 50 amp electric service worked well. No internet service is provided, but good Verizon data and mobile. OTA TV with limited service. Walking trails are available right outside of the park along the Lake which were great for dogs. Good access to Apostle Islands area. We would stay again but know interior sites were not as nice as lakefront. We camped at Ashland City RV Park (Kreher Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Grand Portage Lodge and Casino, Grand Portage, Minnesota

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed that this park in order to have conveniently located access to the Isle royale National Park ferry. The park is operated in conjunction with the casino and site rental includes access to the casino. Our pull through site was packed dirt with some gravel and was mostly level. Utilities were mid coach and worked well other than an electric outage which was quickly addressed. There were no OTA television stations and both for Verizon and Sprint had very poor coverage. The Internet provided by the campground was spotty even with a booster. The times on our smart phones registered as Eastern time even though the time zone is central. The casino resort has a full service station with propane and a small store. There is no formal dog walking area but the campground is open enough along the roads. We camped at Grand Portage Lodge and Casino in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

What's better than a large, inexpensive, beautiful COE campground minutes from major road for an overnight stay? Extra large mostly level packed dirt pad large enough for our 38 ft fiver and tow vehicle with room to spare. Good 50 amp service rear of site. No water. Dump station at far end of camp. Good shade. Walking trails over dam great for dogs. Train went by 3 times with horns. Traffic noise but not overwhelming. We camped at Pokegama Dam Campground COE in a Fifth Wheel.

Mirror Lake State Park, Baraboo, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely state park with very large, mostly shaded dirt sites. When we arrived we discovered that we were not able to back into our reserved site due to road factors and trees at entry. The rangers quickly reassigned us to a double site and charged us only for one. 50 amp service available at the double sites and it was located at rear of coach. Excellent well marked and maintained hiking trails are great for dog walking. Easy access to lake. No OTA TV and some Verizon data and mobile. Trash barrels and dumpsters are located only at the entrance to the park. Dump station and possible water in an easily accessible area as you enter or leave. The Dells is about a 10 minute drive. We would camp here again but with a 38' 5th wheel we would probably elect a double site to avoid any problems. We camped at Mirror Lake State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Sand Creek Campground, Chesterton, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We decided to stay here despite the bad reviews as there are limited campgrounds near the National Park. We were pleasantly surprised at the over all ambiance of the campground despite its strange layout. Our pull through site was directly upon grass and accessible only by making a turn onto the grass field which was only possible as there were no trees or obstructions. There had been a gravel pad at one time but was mainly grass. Utilities were at rear of site and easy to use. OTA TV and good Verizon service. Bathrooms were clean when we arrived though we did not use. There are not enough bathrooms/showers for sites. Walking around park acreage good for dogs. Park owner states 1 dog limit though we did not know this when we checked in. Ground soft and spongy so would stay again only if no rain in forecast. Owner was friendly in person but difficult to communicate with on phone. No reservations taken but should call first for availability. We camped at Sand Creek Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Excellent park easily accessed from main highway. Extra large mostly level asphalt pads at all sites. Electric tower easily accessed with 122 v. Water required 60 ft of hose to reach bib. Good OTA TV. Verizon with data and mobile. Gravel area for firepit. Will deliver wood to site. Excellent walking paths for people and dogs. Ponds had considerable algae. 90 minutes to downtown Chicago. Fuel, Home Depot and groceries close. We would stay again. Dump easy to use. Crockery Creek RV Park (formerly Cross-n-Creek Campground), Ravenna, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Wonderful, large wooded property about halfway between Grand Rapids and Muskegon. We were given an extra long back in site at the front of the park for our overnight stay. The partialy shaded site was on a packed dirt and gravel pad which was mostly level with some slope to rear. The electric tower is located well in the rear of the site and our 30 ft power cord barely reached the box. Water spigots are shared by 4 sites so we needed 2 hoses to reach the bib. Pressure was good. Good OTA TV reception. Verizon with data and mobile, Sprint mobile only. Large well manicured grass area between sites. Pull through sites are available and are extra long and very large. We were not offered one of these though it would have been nice. When you request a site be sure to let them know if you wish shaded or not shaded as there seems to be a variety available. All sites have a very nice fire pit and they will deliver would to the site though we did not take advantage of this. There are quite a few long term residents and most of those sites have cement pads and patios and are well taken care of. There are workers constantly moving around the park so everything is immaculate. There are numerous walking areas including along a beautiful creek and a nice pond as well as into the woodland areas. Mosquitoes were beginning to be out so would advise bug spray. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Crockery Creek RV Park (formerly Cross-n-Creek Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Aune-Osborn Campground, Sault Sainte Marie, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Located within minutes of the locks and downtown this park lies along the St. Mary's River, an active freight way. All riverfront sites are back in and divided by view between those for Class A and trailers. Sites are mostly level gravel, sand and grass. Electric tower located mid site and voltage at 115. Water, with great pressure, was on opposite side and required 2 hoses. Good OTA TV reception. Verizon with data and mobile. Heavy rains had left park with some standing water and soggy sites. There is a park connected on the far side of the boat launch which was perfect to walk dogs. There are also benches along the riverfront so even if you do not have a waterfront site there are comfortable places to sit. Laundry Room has 3 machines at $2 a load for wash and a $1.25 a load for dryer. We would definitely stay at this park again if we were in the area. We camped at Aune-Osborn Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga, Alanson, Michigan

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Located in a beautiful rural area on an expansive lake, this is a lovely well maintained County park. There are a variety of sites both with paved or gravel pads. All sites have electric and water. We stayed in the paved full hook up pull through sites. These sites are extra long and level with no shade. The water and electric tower are mid site and the sewer hook up was rear site which did make it difficult during hook up. Water pressure was good. The pull through sites are not nearly as large and private as any of the back in sites. New picnic tables and a large well designed fire pit were on a paved patio. 3 PBS television stations were available OTA. Good data and mobile from Verizon but limited Sprint. The lake is within a short walking distance and there are piers available for fishing and kayak launching. There is ample area to walk dogs along the paved roads but the small amount of walking trails were extremely muddy at this time of year. Staff was extremely helpful and there are a few snack type supplies in the office as well as firewood. It is about a 20 minute drive to Petoskey and about a 40 minute drive to Mackinaw City. We would stay here again but elect one of the paved back in cites to allow for more privacy. Mosquitoes were abundant so be prepared. We camped at Camp Pet-O-Se-Ga in a Fifth Wheel.
