Elks Lodge #1625 (Members Only), Lancaster, California

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

No frills is a good way to describe this place. The sites are reasonably sized and can easily accommodate the largest rigs. The location is OK for a stopover but it's not near anything interesting. The 30 amp at our pedestal (#39) did not work, but since we didn't need AC we just used the 20 amp circuit. The wifi and cable TV didn't work. The dump station was closed for some concrete repair. We would come here again for an overnight stopover. We camped at Elks Lodge #1625 (Members Only) in a Travel Trailer.

Elks Lodge #2504 , Oceano, California

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

The location is excellent (1/4 mile walk to the beach.) The sites are way to narrow (15 feet wide or less.) Slides are almost touching. This Lodge should increase the width of the sites to 20 feet minimum.

Very friendly and accommodating host. We camped at Elks Lodge #2504 in a Travel Trailer.

Elks Lodge #832 (Members Only), Napa, California

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice, small, private (Elk members only) campground incredibly near downtown Napa, California with lots of convenient shopping nearby (e.g., Safeway, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, etc...) The location provides an excellent jumping off place to explore all of Napa Valley and at $25 a night for a full hookup campsite the price cannot be beat. The sites are small but typical for a private campground and very level. The area is very clean and quiet. The Napa River Trail (7 mile walk/bike/run) runs right along the rear of the campground and can be accessed via a locked gate. This is the best value we've seen yet in California and to have it in the heart of wine country makes this a real gem. They do not take reservations and when we arrived on a Monday in early November, there were only three other RV's so we could choose from nine other sites. If you get here and the place is full, they will let you spend the night in the parking lot so you can make other arrangements or wait for a vacancy. As a back-up, check out the Calistoga RV park (it's a county fair park about 28 miles up the road.) We camped at Elks Lodge #832 (Members Only) in a Travel Trailer.

Bayou Segnette State Park, Westwego, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2014 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice Louisiana State Park very close to NOLA! The facilities are very good, sites are large and level. The CG is close to food shopping. This is an excellent jumping off point to visit New Orleans and the plantations up the river (about one hour away.) There is a ferry from Algiers to the base of Canal Street which makes visiting the city a piece of cake. We would stay here again. We camped at Bayou Segnette State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Palmetto Island State Park, Abbeville, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2014 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

A real jewel of a State park. Well situated for touring this part of Acadiana or just to hang out in the campground. Many opportunities to canoe/kayak from the boat launch. The sites are very private and spacious. The camp hosts were very diligent with their duties and the park shined as a result. I highly recommend the sites in the end loops (64, 65, 66 & 67) for the most privacy. We will definitely be back! We camped at Palmetto Island State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Natchez State Park, Natchez, Mississippi

Date of Stay: November, 2014 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice quiet campground close to Natchez, MS. The sites are spacious and reasonably private. Our Verizon internet was barely usable, cell phone was OK. Not a good park to use if you need internet access for work. Otherwise a good jumping off point to visit Natchez or when driving the Natchez Trace. We would stay here again. We camped at Natchez State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Iroquois Campground and RV Park, Peru, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Nice very quiet private campground. Sites are on the larger size for a private campground. No screening between sites. Staff was helpful and friendly. Laundry facilities are modern and clean. Looks like about half the sites are occupied by seasonal campers, but they are all very nice and a quiet group. Utilities are good and very good wifi worked at our site. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Iroquois Campground and RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Cove Oceanfront Campground, Parker's Cove, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

This is the BEST private campground we have seen to date in Canada! The facilities are superb, modern, clean and in full working order. The views of the Bay of Fundy are incredible. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They have gone out of their way to have information about local attractions readily available. Wi-Fi worked at our site (oceanfront and pretty far from the office) but speed was slow on occasions (but still perfectly usable for web surfing and emails, not movie streaming). The sites are close together as is typical in private campgrounds but when we were here (Labor Day Weekend) the campground was at least half empty so we had several sites between us and the neighbors. The rates for the oceanfront sites are about $10 to $15/day higher than for sites at other inland campgrounds with no ocean views. But if you want a million dollar view of the Bay of Fundy, this is one of the best values for oceanfront camping in North America. Our daily rate (converted to US $) for an oceanfront site reflects a 10% discount for a one week stay. The campground is very close to Annapolis Royal (just over the mountain.) We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Cove Oceanfront Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Woodhaven RV Park of Halifax, Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice RV park near Halifax, NS. This is the best place to stay if you are visiting the City. We had a beautiful, private pull through site with very reliable 30 amp service. WiFi is blazing fast and reliable. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Woodhaven RV Park of Halifax in a Travel Trailer.

Lakeview Treasure Campground, Catalone, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This place is an overpriced dump! They lost our reservation for a three-way site and offered us a two-way in the first come first served section, which was fine for us. However, our site was as unlevel as could be and still be called a "site." The roads and a lot of the sites are gravely and dusty (muddy when it rained.) The owner is in the process of opening up more sites every place he can shove them in. It looked like most of the sites were seasonal campers with a lot of trashy campers and site "decorations." The dump station was not accessible to us upon our departure due to the packed trailers everyplace (there was only one through road and the dump station was not on it!). And, as if all that wasn't bad enough, this place is campfire hell! The seasonal tenant behind us burned (I should really say,"smoked or smoldered" not burned) the trashiest smelling wood I've even smelled. On a weekend night, this place was worse than downtown Beijing during a smog alert. We would never stay here again. We camped at Lakeview Treasure Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Bras D'Or Lakes Campground, Baddeck, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: August, 2014 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This park is overpriced, poorly maintained, and our site was extremely small. I had to park our tow vehicle on the adjacent site which thankfully was not rented the time we were there or I would have had to put our truck somewhere that would have been quite inconvenient to the site. Our site had a weedy gravel patch for parking the trailer which was not level and severely mounded. Our picnic table sat in a muddy ditch adjacent to the site next door where we parked our truck. This ditch was about 5 feet wide and then you had the weedy gravel patch for the adjacent site. We noted that most of the other sites had a similar arrangement and that the other pads were also not maintained. The park did have good Wi-Fi, however. We would not stay here again. We camped at Bras D'Or Lakes Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Bayside RV Campground, Oyster Bed Bridge, Prince Edward Island

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Very friendly owners and nicely run campground. Good location to explore just about all of PEI. Close to Charlottetown, Cavendish, Rustico, National Parks, etc... About half the sites are seasonal. Unlike some other campgrounds in Canada, the owners of this property have taken care to make sure that the seasonal occupants are of good quality and well behaved (sorry, no good way to make this point.) The only "ding" is the location of a local 1/4 mile oval race track to the south which has races nearly every Saturday during the summer. Usually, if the wind is not directly from the south you'd hardly know they were there, but if the wind is strong and from the south you will notice them. But it's over in three hours or so and the rest of the experience more than makes up for this. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Bayside RV Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Arrowhead Marina & RV Park, Schenectady, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

A very pleasant family operated campground on the Mohawk River in the NY Capital District. They offer boat launching and boat dock facilities. The campground is kept very clean. The friendly owner lives on site. The sites are level and reasonably large for a private campground and easy to get into. There is a twice weekly pump out service for $6.00 which makes a long term stay more pleasant. The only downside are the train tracks that pass about 1/2 mile away. This is a fairly busy rail line and trains go though at all hours with their horns blaring due to the nearby road crossing. We found this situation kind of quaint and not a deal killer, but if you are sensitive to this type of noise intrusion you need to consider this. We camped at Arrowhead Marina & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Sampson State Park, Romulus, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2014 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Rate was for a "prime waterfront" site with electric only. This is a very nice campground and park for families and offers boat launch and dock facilities on Seneca Lake. Site are large. Some utility pedestals are located in quirky spots and you may need an extension cord to reach it. We would stay here again. We camped at Sampson State Park in a Travel Trailer.
