Crooked River State Park, Saint Marys, Georgia

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Great campground/state park!! Well maintained, clean. Has some full hook-up sites. Very nice staff. No fishing area to speak of, boat ramp available. Well stocked bait shop. Lay out of some sites somewhat strange. Looking only at the map on Reserve America and state park website, you would assume the pull thru's are like most, i.e. picnic table, fire ring etc. facing away from the road, not so much here. Sites very level and well packed gravel. We camped at Crooked River State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you do manage to reserve a full hook-up site, make sure you have plenty of sewer hose! Some of the sites sewer drops are pretty far from the electric and water hook-up. Ours was right at the limit of our two 10 foot lengths.

Sawnee COE, Cumming, Georgia

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

New review and update from prior review in May. First the update, was contacted by senior Ranger for parks. Explained what happened and received a very nice apology. Ranger said my request should have been granted. He also told me the funding for parks and campgrounds has been increased for 2019 and there will be full time employees next season. New review, as before very nice campground. Water, electric good. Concrete pads, very level. Still no Grey water dumps. The concrete pads are very narrow. We were in #20 and with the tires at the very edge of one side, there was only 12 inches of pad, then a drop off of 12 inches to the sloping downward ground on the door side of our Class C. Dangerous! This is a very old campground and while very well maintained, some upgrades are needed to better serve the current size RVs. Some of the sites have very strangely placed areas for picnic table, fire ring, etc. with concrete sidewalks leading to them, our sidewalk was behind the RV with the picnic table next to the RV, but 5-6 feet below pad level. Some sites rated as "back-in" have the water and power on the wrong side of pad, therefore making them "pull-in". We will be staying again, but have made a list of the sites with the best layouts as this is a site specific reservation system. We camped at Sawnee COE in a Motorhome.

Dames Ferry Campground, Juliette, Georgia

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

This park has only recently been opened as a state park campground, it was a Georgia Power facility. Very nice campground, roads well maintained. Sites gravel drive with concrete pad for picnic table, fire ring, most well leveled. Bath house, only one, clean and well maintained, however, only 1 toilet and 1 urinal in men's, 2 shower stalls, 1 of which handicap well equipped. There are NO grey water dumps, main reason for the "8" rating. Pricing seems high for this campground. There is no camp store, only a "check-in" booth. They do have firewood and ice on-site. As you would expect good power, generation plant is on other side of lake. Water pressure good. Lots of lakeside sites. Site specific reservations so book early! We camped at Dames Ferry Campground in a Motorhome.

F. D. Roosevelt State Park, Pine Mountain, Georgia

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Really nice park!! Advice from others about what loops to avoid very true. Did see attendant taking photos of each campsite, getting ready for site specific website update. While there are sites where leveling is good, most sites, all loops, need gravel work for leveling. Loop #5 has many pull-thru sites but are really close to the road. I have never seen a Georgia State Park with this many grey water dumps, they are running slow right now because of a really wet summer. Good electric and water pressure. Not every site has a light pole, but all have fire ring and picnic table, some wooden, some concrete. We camped at F. D. Roosevelt State Park in a Motorhome.

Fort Mountain State Park, Chatsworth, Georgia

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

As other have said very steep and winding road up from Chatsworth. Campground was very well maintained. Sites level, gravel well packed. Campground hosts excellent!! While we were there, each day had severe thunderstorms, every time there was a warning or watch issued the campground hosts walked around the campground and told everyone. Park cable system took several hits from the storms, went down and stayed down for the rest of our stay. Over-the-air reception was excellent. Cell and internet service was non-existent. If you are camping without a toad, stock up, there are no stores near the park. Everything is "down the mountain", about 8 miles of winding steep roads. Grey water dumps well placed throughout the campgrounds, but with the amount of rain they have been having ground is saturated and dumps drain s-l-o-w-l-y. Both campgrounds near beach and boat rental areas. All in all a great state park. We camped at Fort Mountain State Park in a Motorhome.

Sawnee COE, Cumming, Georgia

Date of Stay: May, 2018 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Our first time in a C.O.E. campground. First the positives. Well maintained roads and campsites. Concrete pads with asphalt driveways, mostly level. Volunteer camp attendants, which is both good and bad. Good water pressure and power. Beautiful lakeside sites but not many of those. Book early. Now, the bad. No permanent on-site staff. no grey water dumps, the one sewer dump hard to get into and out of. Gate/office is only staffed by volunteers a few hours a day. Showers clean with good hot water, but no benches in shower stall. Only one small hook on the back of the doors. Reservation system is ridiculous! New contractor for system with typical lack of training. Will only allow reservations for the weekend for 2 days, no matter what. Example, we were booked Sunday thru Saturday. Our site was available Sunday night, with someone else pulling in Monday. When we tried to extend our stay to Sunday, were told NO, Sunday is part of the weekend and weekends have 2 day minimum. Reserve America representative told me to go to the office, which wasn't open. Volunteer told me to drive to the Project Office about 5 miles down the road and ask Park ranger to allow the additional night. Was told NO, weekend is 2 night minimum, even though there was only one night open between reservations. Typical federal government thinking, instead of making money allowing a one night extension, they got nothing. We will go back to this campground, but now will make sure we book the whole weekend. We camped at Sawnee COE in a Motorhome.

Low Country FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Charleston AFB, South Carolina

Date of Stay: April, 2018 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

Best Air Force Famcamp we have seen! Should be the example for the rest of the Air Force campgrounds! Clean, level, concrete pads, problem free utilities. Reservations allowed, full time camping NOT allowed. Even base assigned personnel are not allowed to camp unless on leave. Only negative comment would be noise from the small arms range, but even that was only occasional. We camped at Low Country FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.

Skidaway Island State Park, Savannah, Georgia

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Excellent campground!! As others have noted not a lot to do on park, but a great place for doing the tourist thing in Savannah! Sites well maintained, level and large. Premium sites have sewer connection. At the time of our visit the closest restroom was being rebuilt, so didn't use. Looks like a major upgrade being done. Good stop over location. Never had seen a campground with a 6 lane bowling center and indoor batting cages before. Only negative thing I can say has nothing to do with the campground, the intersection on the highway exit is a nightmare!!! Really needs a traffic light. We camped at Wytheville KOA in a Motorhome.

Boston / Cape Cod KOA, Middleboro, Massachusetts

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Kind of in the middle of nowhere. Park is a little in need of TLC. Stay away from the upper camping area, really bad roads and unlevel spaces. We were camping elsewhere and extended our vacation staying here. We were able to check out the campground the day before we moved there. Staff was very nice about letting us pick a different campsite. Store was sadly stocked. We camped at Boston / Cape Cod KOA in a Motorhome.

Andrews AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Andrews AFB, Maryland

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Half of the park was closed for reconstruction, the other half was neglected. Site had concrete pad which was the most positive aspect of the park. One staff member was rude and seemed to think answering questions was not in job duties. Roads gravel, muddy and potholed, restrooms were clean but really outdated, staff seemed to think it was okay to leave mops and brooms anywhere they stopped using them.

Grass around office area trimmed and mowed, rest of areas and campsites grass was 12-18 inches tall. Grass around dog area fencing mowed, inside not mowed. Piles of limbs and leaves everywhere.

Half of park being rebuilt/upgraded to 50 amp, but placement of utilities made no sense. While a very good location for visiting Washington DC, a disappointing park. One would think that the support base for the Presidential fleet of aircraft would be a showplace in all its facilities.

Base Exchange being remodeled but open for business, commissary large. Golf course one of the best I've ever seen on a military base. We camped at Andrews AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
