Holiday Pines Campground, Loganton, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed here because everything in State College/Bellefonte was full on home coming weekend. The park is pretty run down, which I would expect if it was the end of the season, but they're open until mid-December. Water pressure was so low we filled the tank and ran off our pump instead. They say there is WiFi but nothing showed up. Verizon signal is marginal. Dish on the edge of no signal. Site sloped downhill to the point of having the front wheels of the ground to level. We camped at Holiday Pines Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lock Haven has stores and restaurants and is the closest civilization. It's about 1.2 hour away. If you go to Lock Haven, don't take the motor home down PA477. Take I-80 to US220 instead. Twisty mountain roads.

Cottonwood Campground (NPS Campground), Medora, North Dakota

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $7.00
Overall Rating:

We did not stay at the campground, but stayed at Medora Campground just outside the National Park entrance. We took the toad through the park and I wanted to put out a warning that the entry roads is being reconstructed and it's one-way traffic most of the way to the campground. You need to wait for a pilot car to follow through the construction zone and the road has no pavement. I would expect that after a heavy rain, the road may well be closed. It looks like this may continue into the 2019 season. Just a heads up. We camped at Cottonwood Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Antigo Lake RV Park, Antigo, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

A very nice little city park with RV sites. Made reservations online and they sent an email with several attachments, one of which contains your site number. The sites are all marked with your name on the post. There is no one actually at the park to check you in. Sites are back in and most have 30 amp, sewer and water. The water spigots are at the extreme rear of the site and the electric is in the middle, so you may need either 50 feet of hose or a long power cord. The park is tight but very well maintained. It backs up to a city street but the street is lightly traveled. There is a manufacturing plant across the street, but I didn't notice any real noise coming from it. There are just a dozen or so RV spots, the northern ones seem to be longer. Great stop for an overnight or a day. Convenient to US 45 and shops and stores in Antigo. Very pretty park around the lake for walking and riding. Ball fields adjacent to the RV park do have games, but they're over by 8 pm. Self-service wood pile next to the bathhouse provides firewood for a donation. We camped at Antigo Lake RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If coming from the north on US 45, use 2nd Ave. to Hudson St. Disregard any GPS directions to use 3rd Ave. If coming from the south, 5th Ave is the best turn off US 45. The FS Fast Stop gas station nearby says that they have propane, but they don't seem to have anyone there that knows how to pump it into a motor home. Not far away is an Amerigas, but they will only fill between 4 and 4:30 in the afternoon.

Hamlin Beach State Park, Hamlin, New York

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects out-of-state charge and registration fee. It was $104 for 3 nights. Nicely maintained state park on Lake Ontario. Several beach and recreation areas in the park. There are pets and no-pets loops, so if you don't want to listen to a yapping shi-zu, you don't have to. Some of the sites in Loop A are downhill from the road (site numbers in the 20s) and are not level or anywhere near it. We asked to move and they accommodated us. 50 amp on some sites, 30 on most. The electricity was rock solid for our entire stay. We camped at Hamlin Beach State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Lake Ontario Parkway is the road going to the park. The eastern portion has some lower overpasses (10'10" up to 11'10") and are well marked. If your nav takes you up 390 from Greece when coming from the east, you will hit these overpasses. When coming from the east, our nav took us west on route 104 to route 259 north. 259 in Hilton has a couple of tight corners. Staying on 104 until Route 19 may be better if you're long.

Tip Tam Camping Resort, Jackson, New Jersey

Date of Stay: October, 2017 - $59.00
Overall Rating:

Wooded park but road noise is evident. Jet traffic into and out of McGuire. A lot of rules (walk dogs only on your site, can't use your washer/dryer, no pitbull or pitbull mixes), seemingly ignored and not enforced. A lot of seasonal sites. Narrow roads, tight turns. Ok for an overnight.

Follow the web site directions rather than the GPS. Roads leading to the campground are good. We camped at Tip Tam Camping Resort in a Motorhome.

Chincoteague Island KOA, Chincoteague, Virginia

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $70.00
Overall Rating:

Since no one has reviewed this campground since it became a KOA, take the past reviews with a grain of salt. This park is experiencing growing pains at this point in time. The old sites seem ok, but the "premium" sites with a "view of the lighthouse" are not quite as advertised. They all face the wrong way. Instead of a view of the lighthouse, we had a view of the porches on the row of cabins. For the first time since we started traveling, I asked to move to another site. The staff accommodated me right away and we're happy. They are re-wiring and re-plumbing the entire park. There are no cable outlets yet, but it looks like the cable is run. Power, water pressure and WiFi are all working, although when we both went on the WiFi it did degrade. Another couple couldn't find their sewer tap, and the consensus was that it was buried in the dirt somewhere. They had to re-hook and move to another site. This park is a work in progress. As with most KOAs, it's overpriced for what you get. We camped at Chincoteague Island KOA in a Motorhome.

Robert Newlon Airpark RV Park, Huntington, West Virginia

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The word for this park is eclectic. It is an airport with a skydive outfit with an airport restaurant which used some unused space between the railroad tracks and the airport for put in 30 FHU sites for RVs. There are not a lot of sites for transients, there is no one at the office Monday-Thursday and there is no one on the property during the day. Most sites are 30 amp. I'm sure this would be a different experience on the weekend when there is activity at the airport.

I spoke with the park owner over the phone, was assigned a site which was occupied when I arrived. Another call got me another site. She said she usually got to the property around 5pm but I didn't see anyone by 9pm so I tucked the overnight fee into an envelope and put it in the mail slot at the office. The instructions at the office were to fill out a registration card, but the only thing at the desk outside the locked office was envelopes for money.

I did speak to someone at the cafe that said the owner would probably show up that evening to mow grass and fly one of his planes, but that didn't happen either.

If you're a pilot and you like trains and you're going through here on a weekend, stop. Otherwise, keep going. We camped at Robert Newlon Airpark RV Park in a Motorhome.

Elkhorn Campground, Frankfort, Kentucky

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We felt that the previous reviewers were a little too generous with this campground. We pick CGs based on reviews almost exclusively from this web site, and this is the first time all winter that we were disappointed.

This campground is a dump. The infrastructure is aging and in need of upgrade. Some of the pads are being lifted by tree roots, the electrical and cable boxes are falling apart, the patio decks are rotted and are depressed below the pads causing a tripping hazard. The sites are fairly close together and the first one they assigned us shared utilities with a cabin. The putt-putt golf course is run down and dirty. They were doing some construction on the office and the sidewalk was covered with dirt which got tracked in the bus.

We had planned to stay for 3 nights but bugged out after 2. I would skip this place. We camped at Elkhorn Campground in a Motorhome.

Majestic Oaks Park, Eldon, Missouri

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Stayed at Majestic Oaks for a week exploring the Lake area. This was opening week and the seasonals were opening their rigs for the summer. Quiet, clean park well maintained with walking/biking trails on the property. Owners were friendly and helpful. Sites are all gravel but level and drainage good. Propane available on site. Zee Auto Rentals in Osage Beach will pick you up at the park. Plenty to do around Osage Beach. Outlet mall 5 miles way. Menards store one exit south on US 54 would have everything you might need. Don't miss Ozarkland if you have a sweet tooth.

Branson Shenanigans RV Park, Branson, Missouri

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Interesting small park built terraced into a hill side. Everyone looks down on everyone else. Turns can be challenging in the bigger rigs, but Bob is always available to lead you in and out. Good WiFi and cable. Right at the end of the Yellow route, bypassing most of the strip. Close to all things that happen in Branson. Local Enterprise rental picks up at the park. In spite of the funky nature of the geography, we throughly enjoyed our stay at Shenanigans. We camped at Branson Shenanigans RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The park website mentions 2 ways to get to the park from US65. The "scenic" route is somewhat twisty and hilly and a long way around. MO-76 is the direct route, but can be very busy with tourist traffic.

If coming from the north, consider getting off US65 at the Branson Landing Blvd exit and follow the Red route to the end. If you do use 76, take a left onto the Yellow route ASAP. This route leads directly to Shenanigans.

Very basic state park, not far from US412. FHU concrete sites. No cable, no WiFi, no Verizon cell signal. Fire pits in every site. March 2016 there was some site construction going on which had dump trucks going through the park during the day. We camped at Withrow Springs State Park in a Motorhome.

Beachside RV Park, Crystal Beach, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Rate reflects off-season rate of $150/week. Nice small park, with a couple of long-term residents. Off season was quiet. While we were there they upgraded the WiFi and it is blazingly fast (>30 mbps on speed test).

Nothing special, just a cheap place to stay. Close but not on the beach. A little road noise from Rt 87. No cable, but the Houston stations came in OTA. We camped at Beachside RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The grade crossings over the CSX line that separates the park from US90 are very steep. Do not use your GPS or the park's website directions, especially if you're towing. Lakeshore Rd. is the flattest grade crossing. From I-10 east, take exit 2 (Rt 607 to US90) and drive 9 miles to Lakeshore on the right. From I-10 west, take exit 13 (Rt 43/603), go right on US90 and 5 miles to Lakeshore on the left. Stay on Lakeshore all the way to Beach Blvd and go left to get to the park (about 2 miles).

Timberlane RV Park & Resort, Bradenton, Florida

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

This is a fairly new park with new owners. The park was started years ago but never opened. There are 56 sites currently and the owners are waiting for permits to double the size of the park. Very easy access from I-75 (1 mile east on FL route 64).

Staff is friendly and helpful. The sites are a reasonable size with full hookup. No cable, but OTA stations from Tampa and Sarasota come in fine. WiFi only if close to the office. WiFi may improve when they open the back 56 sites.

Club house/office and pool are under construction as of Dec 2015.

All in all, it's a pretty park with mostly snow birds. Everyone very personable. Groceries/drug store/Walmart etc within a couple of miles. Enterprise Rent a car in Bradenton picks up, but you'll need to tell them where the park is. We camped at Timberlane RV Park & Resort in a Motorhome.

Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort, Hilton Head Island, South Carolina

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

Normal rate was $50 a night plus a $35 utility fee and a $35 recreation fee, which would have made it $60 a night for a 7 day stay.

I can't add anything to previous reviews about what is good here. Beautiful setting, well maintained, friendly people (even the seasonals) and plenty of amenities. Take full advantage of the feature on the resort's web site to look at a picture of the sight before you book it. Although most of the sites are beautiful, some are better than others and have better outdoor furniture and pads.

In addition, the 200-300 loop backs up against a busy road and sites in the 270-290 area also get the full force of the car wash blowing dryers spooling up every 2 minutes all day.

No open flame fires except propane grills. $10 charge to let you wash your rig, probably because they hawk the services of a detailing services that is there every day.

Class A and C motorhomes only. We camped at Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort in a Motorhome.
