Union Grove COE, Salado, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2017 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

This park is on the South Side of Stillhouse Hollow Lake, near Salado TX. The park is nice park with most sited directly facing the lake. The lake has water and it is high enough to actually use the lake, which in Texas is not always the case. The park has no shade for the RV so if you don't like the heat or your AC to run all the time don't come here in the summer. The site was stayed at had a nice breeze, making it very nice to sit outside and relax. The sites we nicely spaced and all had a picnic table, fire pit, BBQ grill and pergola over the picnic table. Our dogs did not pick up any burs; they were on leashes so they did not stray into the tall grass or woody areas. You may also want to check out the sister park Dana Peak. We camped at Union Grove COE in a Motorhome.

Hords Creek Lake, Lakeside Campground COE, Coleman, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $16.00
Overall Rating:

Very nice park. Different loops are very different in the closeness of spaces and the services you receive. The loop we stayed in did not have sewer, but was widely space with great views. Our site was directly on the water with a nice breeze. There is no barrier between you and the water so you could walk right in. I wouldn't go in the water from the site, the shoreline showed signs of grass and other growth in/under the water.

The park has swimming beaches and boat ramps. One of the swimming areas is close to site T1. The section we stayed in T46-T55 was a bit far from both swimming and boat ramps, not in easy walking distance. This worked for us, since we wanted a quite site. If you are planning to swim or use a boat, pick a different section.

We camped with 2 dogs; they were covered in burs in minutes. They got burs so bad we had to cut them out. It was impossible to walk the dog and not get hundreds of burs. We camped at Hords Creek Lake, Lakeside Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The nearest store is in Coleman. Google maps got a little confused on exactly where the store was. The map clearly showed where it was but the directions did not lead to the store. The store is nice but small. If you want anything fancy shop at home, otherwise the store had a good assortment of staples.

Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort, Lajitas, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

The park was beautiful. We were in a back in site at the back of the park with great views of the surrounding countryside. The park was quiet and people were friendly. The lots were level and there were a large number of pull thru sites. It was convenient to both the state (less then 10 mins) and national parks (30-45 mins). They had a nice pool area. The WiFi was spotty but the resort has great WiFi that you can use. I would definitely visit again. We camped at Maverick Ranch RV Park at Lajitas Resort in a Motorhome.

Seminole Canyon State Park, Comstock, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Nice park. The sites are close together, but not overly crowded. We stayed here on our way to Big Bend. Excellent stopping point. We stayed an extra night to go on the canyon tour, which was great. The time we were there was VERY windy, which made it feel a lot colder than the temperature actually was. We camped at Seminole Canyon State Park in a Motorhome.

Inks Lake State Park, Burnet, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Nice but crowded park. The weekend we visited most sites were taken by tent campers with children. The park rangers roamed the park regularly and kept everything running smoothly. The ranger station closed early the night we arrived, so we need to registered the next morning before 9 AM. The sites were close together, but not on top of each other. A lot of the larger level sites were taken by tenters, so make sure arrive early if you have a large rig or you want a waterfront site. The sites ranged from un-level to level, shady to full sun, waterfront to inland. This is a popular park, Saturday night sold out. Even with the full park, the park did not get noisy. We saw several deer and geese. We will definitely return. We camped at Inks Lake State Park in a Motorhome.

Cedar Breaks Park COE, Georgetown, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

This is a favorite relaxing weekend spot for our family. This campground is located in Georgetown, which is just north of Austin. If you are visiting north Austin or Round Rock, this could be very convenient. This is one of a couple of parks on the lake. This parks tends to be quieter than the others. Some sites have water views, none have water access. A few have cliff-like drop offs by the water edge. The park lets you reserve your site in advance so arriving late in the day is not an issue. But be sure to arrive before the gates close, if not you cannot get into the park. The bathrooms are not particularly clean and are very poorly lighted. There is a trail that goes around the lake over 20 miles, that you can join from the campground. There is not much for kids to do at the park, except walk and ride bikes. We camped at Cedar Breaks Park COE in a Motorhome.

Bastrop State Park, Bastrop, Texas

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

The park is divided into three camping areas; two allow RVs. We stayed in the Copperas Creek Camp area. The site was very nice, level, with water & sewer, the tall trees provided some shade, depending on the site. Most of the sites were deep and could handle a large rig. The facilities were great, recently renovated after the fire. They even had a large washing sink, great if you need to wash something too large for a RV sink. We arrived at the campground around 6 PM on a Friday night and most of the sites were already taken. Arrive early if you want a good selection of sites to choose from. The Piney Hill Area is walking distance to the pool, so if you are planning to use the pool, I suggest camping there instead. We camped at Bastrop State Park in a Motorhome.
