Pioneer RV Resort (55+ park), Phoenix, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2018 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Park employees were very helpful in guiding me to my site and gave me contact information for a locksmith when a lock on my hitch froze. We had a back-in site. Our sewer and water hoses were too short for the layout of the utilities so we headed to nearby Anthem and purchased extensions. The park only has a museum complex as a neighbor and looks very secure. The museums are worth a few hours visit. We will return during out next trip to Ben Avery Shooting Range for competition. (Yes you can hear gunfire coming from the south of this RV Park.) We camped at Pioneer RV Resort (55+ park) in a Travel Trailer.

The nearby Pioneer Museum is worthwhile. There is plenty of retail at I-17 exits north and south of the park. Nearby Ben Avery Shooting Range has good trap and skeet fields.

Hidden Valley RV Resort, Tijeras, New Mexico

Date of Stay: June, 2017 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

This is a rustic campground with little in the way of landscaping - just native junipers for the most part. Sites were graveled and mine was almost level. Noise from nearby NM 333 and I-40 is minimal due to a low ridge between these routes and the park. The swimming pool and clubhouse are modern and in good condition. There are some long term residents with very old trailers, but they are separated from the pull-through sites. Wi-Fi is available in the office and clubhouse only. Water pressure was adequate and the water tasted good. We had a weekly rate of $130 for participants in a nearby sporting event. The staff were very friendly. We camped at Hidden Valley RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Zia RVillas , Hobbs, New Mexico

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The office has limited hours but my reservation was posted at the office entrance. My site was graveled and level. Most trailers were long term and in good shape. The park is spacious with a large open area in the middle. The higher number slots in back lack traffic noise. All utilities worked well. Hobbs water has a muddy taste so buy bottled water for drinking. Shade is very limited. The neighborhood looked secure. Trash containers were a long walk from my site. We camped at Zia RVillas in a Travel Trailer.

WillowWind RV Park, Hurricane, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

I agree this is a very nice park. Pull through sites were concrete and level. There are good paved roads throughout the park. However there are two entrances so there is little security. The office, laundry room and common building are good looking log construction. The park is heavily booked. Large trees provide shade and protection from the wind which was strong the whole five days of our stay. This park is my first choice in Hurricane for a Spring or Summer stay due to the protection the trees provide. The $40 a night price is a value in the area considering 2-star motels rent for $200 a night this time of year. The list of rules is long but they are all reasonable. We camped at WillowWind RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Coral Sands RV Park, Bluff, Utah

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

The $30 a night rate is too high given the current state of this park. Roads and sites are graveled with foxtails growing everywhere. Don't walk a dog in this park. Utilities all worked well and the WiFi was fine. I expect the state of this park will improve as the owner is improving it. Dead limbs have been pruned from the cottonwoods and a truckload of fresh gravel was delivered as we departed. I think in a year this park will be worth the price charged. We camped at Coral Sands RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Page Springs Park, Cornville, Arizona

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

Positives: Level site, large shade trees, flowing stream through the park with nice water plants, friendly host, four decent boutique wineries within bicycle distance (good idea if you do four tastings in a row), not too many mosquitoes, and fishing in nearby Oak Creek. Some sites near Oak Creek have fire rings. Traffic on Page Springs Road is not too heavy and light at night.

Negatives: Office and club house are old and dated trailers, gravel in the park long ago was pushed into the dirt. It will be muddy after rain. Park rules are not posted on their website. You only learn that firearms are prohibited after making a reservation. During dinner hours, diners at the restaurant at the park entrance partially block the entrance road. It would be easy to scrape an RV against a bumper while entering after dark. I recommend entering from the north to avoid a hairpin turn. I would rate the park higher if it respected campers 2nd amendment rights and had fresh gravel.

We did not have a Verizon data connection but did have cell phone service. We could receive three digital TV channels. No cable TV available.

This park is not a resort but could achieve that status with upgrades. We camped at Page Springs Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The four wineries south on Page Springs Road offer tastings for $10 per person. There is also a nearby fish hatchery that allows visitors. The restaurant at the park entrance is popular with locals. Sedona (only ten miles north) is a destination resort with all the shopping and dining you would expect.

Mountain View RV Park, Monticello, Utah

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed here after finding no spot in Moab. This park is just an hours drive away. The park is fairly new with easy access. Big rigs will fit. The park is graveled with little grading (meaning it is not level). Bring extra leveling equipment. There is one row of long-term tenants whose trailers were in fair shape. I paid in the morning and the owner was friendly. The location is quiet. The only noise was from a neighboring farmer who was plowing a field. He quit plowing at sundown. We camped at Mountain View RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Wendover KOA, West Wendover, Nevada

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed the a section used by over-nighters that only had electricity and water with minimal landscaping. The section with full hookups was much nicer. Wi-Fi was weak at my site. The park is downhill from I-80 behind two, multi-story casinos. These blocked road noise from the freeway. We camped at Wendover KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Bordertown Casino RV Resort, Reno, Nevada

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

The park is actually at the Bordertown exit on 395 several miles north of Reno. With no nearby poor neighborhoods it is secure. The park is new with modern, working hookups. Landscaping is too new to provide much shade. The check-in clerk said there was little noise from nearby Hwy 395 and he was right. I got a good sleep. The concrete pads were almost level. We camped at Bordertown Casino RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Riverwalk RV Park, Fortuna, California

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This park is just off Hwy 101 and is easy to locate. However there is truck noise from the nearby highway. The landscaping is mature and rhododendrons were blooming everywhere. There is a tight turn at one end of the park but big rigs somehow negotiated the turn. We camped at Riverwalk RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Lone Rock Beach - (NPS), Page, Arizona

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $6.00
Overall Rating:

I stayed in the upper parking area and not on the beach. Views are stunning! There were no marked spots but plenty of room for the few campers that used this lot. Potable water was available. An automated system issued camping permits but only used credit cards. It was unreliable. It took fifteen attempts to get a permit. I paid the senior rate, the best $6 I've spent this year. We camped at Lone Rock Beach - (NPS) in a Travel Trailer.

Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort, Plymouth, California

Date of Stay: April, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older park with mature, attractive landscaping. The large tress protected my trailer during a strong windstorm. Upgrades in the landscaping were in progress during my stay. The hookups are old but functional. The laundry room had the lowest prices I've seen in years. We camped at Far Horizons 49er Village RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Coconino National Forest, Pinegrove Campground , Flagstaff, Arizona

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $23.00
Overall Rating:

This is a modern, Forest Service Campground located twenty miles from Flag in a quiet Ponderosa forest. The county road leading to the park is wide and better than many state roads. Campground roads and pads are asphalt. There are a few mosquitos and plenty of yellowjackets. We camped at Coconino National Forest, Pinegrove Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This is a high-end RV resort. Very clean with nice landscaping and two large pools, one for adults and one for children. Security is excellent - essential for Vegas. A few negatives: 1) putting greens are very rough, 2) no guns allowed, and 3) a multi-page, double sided rules book detailing all the infractions that can get one evicted from the park. Overall Rating:

This is a very basic park located on the banks on the Animas River. Leave your RV window open at night and hear water flowing. There is little traffic noise. All utilities worked well. The park does not accept credit cards. Most residents are work campers. There were no problems with the long-term residents. We camped at Ruins Road RV Park & Campground in a Travel Trailer.
