Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA, Thompson, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We were given a free upgrade to a lovely lakefront site with a beautiful shaded patio, glider chair, propane grill and table and chairs. The nicest site we've ever enjoyed at a KOA! We camped at Thompson / Grand River Valley KOA in a Motorhome.

Chautauqua Lake KOA , Dewittville, New York

Date of Stay: June, 2018 - $62.00
Overall Rating:

This park is quite far from Lake Chautauqua; in fact, the lake is just barely visible from the highest point in the park. We camped in a deluxe site, with a paved patio, which was nice because it was a very rainy day. We were near a fairly large number of seasonal campers, but all of their sites were very neat and clean. There is also less expensive camping in the lower field. There was little shade. We camped at Chautauqua Lake KOA in a Motorhome.

Lena KOA, Lena, Illinois

Date of Stay: May, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground with pool, and plenty of areas for children to play. Roads are not paved and campsites are not paved, although many have a wooden patio and picnic table. Facilities are clean but a little dated. We have stayed here several times in the past and it is a dependable stopping place. We camped at Lena KOA in a Motorhome.

Wilderness State Park, Carp Lake, Michigan

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

One of the most beautiful state parks in Michigan, on Lake Michigan in a very secluded corner in the northwest corner of the lower peninsula. In the full hookup area the sites are very level. Most sites are gravel, although the handicap site was concrete. Because this is a new section of a very extensive campground, the sites are smaller with less privacy than in the rustic (electric only) area. The sites in the rustic area are quite large, well shaded for the most part, and some offer views of Lake Michigan. We camped at Wilderness State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Although in a very secluded area of the norther lower peninsula, the park is only about 8-10 miles from Mackinaw City. Mackinaw City offers lots of restaurants, gift shops and, of course, the ferries to Mackinac Island. It's also relatively close to Legs Inn, a well-known restaurant at the northern end of the Tunnel of Trees. Drive south from Cross Village to Harbor Springs and enjoy a beautiful drive, with more restaurants, shops and sightseeing in this upscale northern Michigan community.

Holland State Park, Holland, Michigan

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $37.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the park nearest the beach, which was only a very short walk away. The RV park is basically a large paved parking lot, with spaces large enough for even large (40') motorhomes, and with a picnic table at most sites. We had full hookups. There is no shade in this portion of the park and no privacy. However, because we visited in May there were no crowds and during the week the park was only about one-quarter full. All spaces are back-in. We camped at Holland State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

If you can tear yourself away from the beautiful sandy beach, the town of Holland has many worthwhile shops and restaurants. Nearby is Windmill Island, well worth the price of admission. The artsy town of Saugutuck is just a bit south and worth the drive.

Lazy Acres RV Park, Center Point, Iowa

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

This was one of the most pleasant campgrounds we found during a road trip of approximately 70 days. Sites were grassy, roomy and very, very long. Clean grounds. Good electric, water and sewer hookups - very good! Staff was very friendly and accompanied us to our site to make sure everything was in good shape. We camped at Lazy Acres RV Park in a Motorhome.

Golden Nugget RV Park, Anchorage, Alaska

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

This park suffers from a split personality. One-half has nice grass, gravel roads, a picnic pavilion and newer restrooms. The other half, separated by a fence, has many older units that seem to be occupied full time, and are clearly not in compliance with campground rules regarding storage of items outside, storage of construction materials, etc. We were located on this side, and it was clearly not cared for as well as the other side. The other side was occupied by groups of 3 or 4 caravans. We camped at Golden Nugget RV Park in a Motorhome.
