Lake Livingston / Onalaska KOA, Onalaska, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This park had beautiful views of Lake Livingston and the sunset. The sites were spacious and grassy with fire pits which are hard to find in RV parks in Texas. We are 55+ so the pool and beach with lots of children were not our thing, but we loved the Farmhouse restaurant and relaxing by the lake. This is a great place for family camping. If you don't have a boat, there's not a lot to do away from the campground. We camped at Lake Livingston / Onalaska KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Even if you don't rent a premium site, see if they have any available with a lake view. We had a low cost site but enjoyed our lake/sunset view every day.

Pioneer Beach Resort, Port Aransas, Texas

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

We enjoyed this park simply because of the boardwalk access to Port Aransas beach. We walked miles every morning with our dog on a mostly empty beach - beautiful. The sites are a little close together and the pool / hot tub are mostly unused in the winter, but who needs them with the beautiful beach? They have lots of activities which cater to the 55+ crowd and that group was very friendly to us - we enjoyed meeting many people. The only bad thing was the wifi. We camped at Pioneer Beach Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

The pull-thrus have no grass so our dog had to be walked to the dog park to do his business. Find a site with grass.

Bentsen Palm Village RV Park , Palmview, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

I think some of the other reviewers are confusing Bentsen Palms with a park with a similar name down the road. This park is awesome! If you are 55+, but are still active! this is the park for you. You get free access to the neighboring State Park with fantastic bird-watching, free bikes, free kayaks, pontoon boat ride ($10), pool, hot tub, pickleball, and lots of well attended activities in this park. It also has the best, constantly-enjoyed, dog park I have ever seen. By the end of my visit, my dog mastered the agility course and had 20 new friends that he dragged me to see every day! The sites were spacious and had the most beautiful flowering landscaping, simply amazing. There are also miles of levee roads that you can walk with your dog off-leash which was awesome daily excercise, although you share the roads with Border Patrol. I had so much fun here that it is now my favorite RV park ever! We camped at Bentsen Palm Village RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

The circle sites are bigger, but we enjoyed being backed up to the dog park/cattle ranch. Very Texas!

Buckhorn Lake Resort, Kerrville, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice park. The facilities are top notch. They organize many social events that are reasonably priced, well-attended, and a lot of fun! The dog park is a must at 4:30 each day. The only negatives I could note is their pools are not heated and you do hear the I-10 traffic noise. The people are so nice and they have awesome pickleball! We camped at Buckhorn Lake Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Munising Tourist Park Campground, Munising, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We loved this park! We were fortunate enough to get a lakeside site (94) and the view was spectacular. We had a beautiful sand beach with shallow water right on our campsite. We spent hours just soaking in the view. Some of the lakefront sites were close together so we really liked our site as it was double wide.

The park itself was clean, mostly quiet, and reasonable for full hook ups. The only bad things I could even think of were that we couldn't get the free wifi from our site so you had to walk up to the office to get on and you could hear the highway from time to time. We camped at Munising Tourist Park Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park / Union Bay Campground, Ontonagon, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

If you are fortunate enough to get a site on Lake Superior, this is a great place to camp. We were on site 25 which was the best for a larger rig, but we had to reserve it 6 months to the day ahead of time. There are only about 6 of these prime lakeside sites so you have to book them early for summer weekends. We loved it and spent hours enjoying our rock waterfront and swimming in Lake Superior. The sun doesn't set over the water but you still get a beautiful sky. And we also were treated to a meteor shower and Northern Lights!

The majority of the sites don't even have a view of the lake as they are on the other side of a tree line. They are currently putting in a new shower building which will be very nice. However, they tore the old one down and brought in 2 trailers with 5 toilet/shower combo rooms to replace it. This was just not enough for 400+ campers and the poor park workers were struggling to keep them clean. Most of the time, they weren't too good so we were happy to use the bathroom in the camper. Of course, without water and sewer hookups, we had to haul water and conserve.

I would definitely come back especially if we could camp lakeside again. We camped at Porcupine Mountain Wilderness State Park / Union Bay Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Jack Pine Lodge Campground, Manistique, Michigan

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

This is a little gem in the middle of forest. It's a newer campground with full hook ups and level gravel pads. They are a decent size with vegetation between the sites for privacy.

The best thing about this spot is the Jack Pine Lodge bar. It is a small "classic northwood lodge" with old log decor. They have awesome burgers and smoked meats. We especially enjoyed the smoked brisket and smoked turkey sandwiches. The people were super friendly so we had a lot of fun there talking to the locals. We also appreciated that it was a 3 minute walk back to camper.

The only bad thing is that we couldn't get on the wifi, but that can be a good thing too! We camped at Jack Pine Lodge Campground in a Travel Trailer.
