Steamboat Park Campground, Jenison, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

This park is very peaceful, sitting right alongside the Grand River. Site was long, clean, and level. The pool was well used by the kids but we opted for kayaking on the river. It's easy to launch from the camp ground. Some sites are open but some are treed so you may want to call the campground to pick a site if you need a satellite friendly site. I used the automated reservation system and it put me on a site with trees so we had a problem with the satellite. The rig's antenna pulled in a dozen or so stations so we were able to still find something to watch once the bugs drove us inside. The only wifi is at the pool area with no plans to expand. We were close enough to the antenna that we were able to pull in the signal with our wifi amplifier, but I suspect most people will be relying on their phones. Overall, it was a very pleasant stay and we will probably stay here again. We camped at Steamboat Park Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

East Jordan Tourist Park, East Jordan, Michigan

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

Nice, clean, quiet park. Level, grassy sites. Value priced for northern Michigan in July. The cable tv did not work and we were only able to get 5 channels over the air. The wifi was pretty good most of the time. I would suspect someone was streaming which caused occasional slowdowns. The bathrooms seemed to see a lot of use and they were mostly kept clean. It is right on the edge of the south arm of Lake Charlevoix so the scenery was beautiful. There are softball fields at the south end of the park and a nice swimming beach at the north end. We made good use of the ice cream stand within walking distance. Easy drive to Charlevoix and Petoskey. We will stay here again if we are in the area. We camped at East Jordan Tourist Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wichita Falls RV Park, Wichita Falls, Texas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Just stopped for a quick overnight but we will come back here when we are in the area. The Wichita River runs next to the park. It is in town with easy access to freeways. We have a big rig so they accommodated us with a site that had no overhead lines. Conversely we did see several nearby sites that would have been sketchy due to overhead electrical lines. Sites were well spaced and our site was level. Restrooms were spotless. Staff provided information about the area for our return to this area next fall. We camped at Wichita Falls RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Downtown Riverside RV Park, North Little Rock, Arkansas

Date of Stay: February, 2016 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We came in after dark and had no problem finding the park, finding our site, and getting hooked up. Staff provided meticulous instructions. It IS basically a parking lot, but for our big rig, it was a very easy in and out. Bathrooms were spotless. The only thing to downgrade it is a LOT of noise from the nearby freeway but there is nothing the park can do to control that. This was a gem and we will definitely stay here again if we decide to explore Little Rock. We camped at Downtown Riverside RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Texan RV Ranch, Mansfield, Texas

Date of Stay: December, 2015 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

I don't understand some of the negative reviews. There are a few park models here but they appeared well kept. We stayed here unexpectedly while waiting for bad weather to clear. The staff was accommodating and efficient. There had been flooding in area but the park has a lot of gravel, so excess water was not an issue here. Great freeway access and situated close enough to major retail outlets to be convenient while still maintaining a "country" feel. We will definitely stay here again if overnighting in DFW. We camped at Texan RV Ranch in a Fifth Wheel.

Hidden Valley RV Park, Von Ormy, Texas

Date of Stay: January, 2015 - $26.00
Overall Rating:

This is definitely a "campground" as opposed to an "RV resort." First the owner. She is a fabulous wealth of information and incredibly helpful. The lots are large with a lot of room for dogs to roam and it is very peaceful. This makes it a nice campground. If you are looking for a paved access road, a fancy clubhouse with top shelf laundry or good internet access and cell phone reception, then you are probably looking for an RV park and this park will disappoint in those categories. With that being said, we would stay here again if the stay was short, because it has great freeway access and is close to San Antonio. We camped at Hidden Valley RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Campgrounds of the South, Gulfport, Mississippi

Date of Stay: December, 2014 - $22.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was easy. Staff was very friendly. Paved roads and sites were helpful because there had been a lot of rain. Restrooms were just okay. It is a good place for an overnight stay but excessive freeway noise would discourage a long term stay. We stayed here on a Passport discount and were required to pay cash/check. We camped at Campgrounds of the South in a Fifth Wheel.

Frenchman's Wilderness Campground, Breaux Bridge, Louisiana

Date of Stay: December, 2014 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

We had to stop at this park to make emergency repairs to our rig. The staff was great, giving us a referral for a local repairman. Easy freeway access but no freeway noise. Interior roads were easy to negotiate in our big rig. We did not use the restrooms but other parts of the park were very clean. The only downside was paying for internet-we HATE that, and they do not take credit cards. We would stay here again. We camped at Frenchman's Wilderness Campground in a Fifth Wheel.
