Red Coconut RV Resort, Fort Myers Beach, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $91.00
Overall Rating:

As many have mentioned this old park is all about location, location, location! The sites were laid out many years ago and we all know RVs have grown. Be prepared to fit your big rig into a shopping center size parking space. It's gonna be tight!! Still the park is quaint in a way and we enjoyed our stay. It was our 2nd time here. We always enjoy walking around after dark looking at all the lights and little decorations the regulars have on display. Estero Blvd is STILL under construction! I guess they will get it done some day. Traffic is bad but if you go out early or on cloudy or rainy days it's much better. Ride your bikes OR take the new free tram that runs from the Library north. We called at the last minute because our other reservation was lost due to the Govt shutdown. They had 1 site in the very back next to the dumpsters. This was a mixed blessing. Site R5 is big and somewhat private and had plenty of room to park my trailer and truck. You won't get that any where else! But the garbage trucks come EVERY morning at 6 AM and the staff and residents come to toss stuff in the dumpsters all day long. We couldn't believe they STILL use a KEY-deposit required for the rest rooms! WHY don't they have combination locks??? We didn't mess with the cable box because antenna TV was fine and we got all the networks. The WiFi is weak and severely overloaded. You had to get on early in the morning to get much of any use out of it. Easy walk to the beach which is why you come here in the first place! Plenty of places to eat and drink within easy walk or bike. Finally these few sites back by the dumpsters are easy to get to and from because you can use the street that is just outside the actual camp ground. It's on the south side and the Fire Dept is at the corner. I think it's called Donora Bvd. We camped at Red Coconut RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

Groceries near by. Lots of eating and drinking establishments all along the beach road. Several friends recommended we go to the Edison/Ford houses and museum in Ft Myers. We hated to use one of our few days here to do that but we are glad we did. A fairly easy drive and well worth it. Maybe not so great with little kids but we're empty nesters and enjoyed it very much.

The Glades RV Resort, Moore Haven, Florida

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $49.00
Overall Rating:

Price includes Tax and GS discount. This park is on a 9 hole golf course. We don't play golf but did enjoy riding our bikes around the grounds and neighborhood. The pool is the best pool at an RV park we have ever seen. It was large, modern, clean and heated! Our site on the other hand was full hookup but just soft sand with a little concrete patio. The previous occupant had left deep ruts and they made no effort to smooth any out. I called the office and begged for a picnic table and they begrudgingly brought me one that was splintery, badly warped and nothing you'd want to sit on. On a later bike ride we spotted several new ones sitting on a vacant lot. They guy next to me pulled in with a big 5th wheel and got stuck in the soft sand. The park is more or less in the middle of nowhere but not a terrible drive to town in either direction. The plus is we were able to get reservations with very little lead time because our 1st choice was closed due to the govt shut down. We would consider staying here again but I thought it was a bit over priced for location. There was no WiFi anywhere even at the pool house or office but you could sign up to pay $5 a day for a single device which again, I think is too much. If they had WiFi at the pool house and leveled my lot before my arrival I would give them higher rating. We camped at The Glades RV Resort in a Travel Trailer.

Blue Heron Campground, Stearns, Kentucky

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $10.00
Overall Rating:

The last time we stayed here was 10 years ago. We were glad to be back. Little had changed which is mostly good. The shower house could definitely use a makeover but they were all working and we really had no issues. We did have an issue with those #$%^&* National Park water spigots. Ours had a bad anti-siphon valve and we would not have been able to use it except there was a NP maintenance dude stopped at the host site and we walked over there. He immediately came to our site and proceeded to change out the faulty valve twice before he managed to get one that worked for us. As mentioned in other reviews you very likely will need a bungee cord or heavy zip tie to hold the water handle in the on position. The picnic tables and fire rings were new. The site was level and we had a wonderful early Fall camp and hiking experience. We'll be back. We camped at Blue Heron Campground in a Travel Trailer.

Visit the 2 overlooks and the Blue Heron Coal town and visitor center. Hiking in the area is very good. A side trip into Sterns KY to the coal mine museum is well worth a few hours. Also an historic train ride from Sterns to the Blue Heron visitor center is available.

Cahokia RV Parque, Cahokia, Illinois

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Many sites are long end to end sites. You can treat them like a pull through if you're not sharing it with another RV. Some are full hook up and some are just water and electric. Choices are limited near St Louis. We called 3 places in Fenton MO and they were full. This place is OK. They even have shuttle to the arch and other attractions. Nice little pool which looked inviting but a severe thunderstorm prevented us from trying it out. I would stay here again. Voltage is OK even though it was 100 when we arrived. We camped at Cahokia RV Parque in a Travel Trailer.

Newberry Mountain RV and Motel Park, Newberry Springs, California

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

The young lady at the office was very nice and expecting twins! Easy check in. Nice little pool which felt wonderful in the 100 deg heat. It's a desert campground with adequate gravel. New picnic tables. Duck pond. A few palm trees. Not exactly an oasis but very adequate for the night. Would definitely stay here again. You could tell they were proud of their little campground. Sites were a little short for bigger rigs but not too much of a problem. Wifi works OK. We camped at Newberry Mountain RV and Motel Park in a Travel Trailer.

Blowing Springs Campground, Bella Vista, Arkansas

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

The upgraded 30 amp section is now open. I think all sites now are full hook up. We have all 3 networks and PBS on antenna TV. Wifi works OK. FYI the trees are taller and give better afternoon shade farther back from the check in. We were on 13 and pretty hot until evening. There are lots of bike trails but it was near 100 in the parking lot this afternoon so no bike rides for us. The restrooms look good. We would stay here again. Oklahoma City East KOA, Choctaw, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are dusty gravel. Some have a little bit of grass. It was hot and everyone had their AC on. I found low voltage of only 104 volts at my post. When I told the otherwise friendly camp host he shrugged it off as normal for the weather. These places are getting more and more big rigs and not upgrading the wiring. Except for the dust and low voltage it was a good stay. Far enough from the freeway to be quiet. I would stay here again. Lots of shade. Nice fire rings. Decent picnic tables. We camped at Oklahoma City East KOA in a Travel Trailer.

Santa Rosa Campground & RV Park, Santa Rosa, New Mexico

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $27.00
Overall Rating:

Like so many others we found the owner to be a surly grouch. Immediately upon arrival he blocked me with a golf cart and accused me of backing into something. He went behind my trailer to check for damage. Finding nothing he mumbled something I couldn't hear. Then told me I was going the wrong way. There are no arrows or signs. I found the 30 and 50 amp outlets were badly worn out. The 50 looked burned. We used the 30 but didn't need our AC since it was a cool night. All good until the skunk came out later. Pass this one if you can. I would not stop here again. We camped at Santa Rosa Campground & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Willow Springs Motel & RV Park, Bridgeport, California

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older family owned and run park. Only 14 short term sites. Shady grass picnic area nearby. Common fire ring with marshmallows provided. All gravel and a little dusty but a really nice little park only 20 miles from the east entrance to Yosemite NP. Anne the owner got us in on the 4th of July with just 2 weeks notice! Would definitely stay here again. Good wifi. No TV. We camped at Willow Springs Motel & RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Coachland RV Park, Truckee, California

Date of Stay: July, 2018 - $54.00
Overall Rating:

As others have said, sites are close together with alternating directions so you face your neighbors and your picnic tables are almost side by side. Still a nice modern park and we would stay here again. Extensive cable TV lineup. A little pricey for the tight space. We camped at Coachland RV Park in a Travel Trailer.

Island RV Park, Clearlake Oaks, California

Overall Rating:

This is a long term mobile home park with a few short term sites. Our site was right on the lake shore with a spectacular view of the lake and mountains. Kind of old and quirky but we would definitely stay here again. The old man who runs the place is super nice. And we were here on July 1st and 2nd and there were a couple other open spots. I agree with the previous review. Some sites were angled and big rig deep. Ours was 90 deg with tree and post at entrance. Had a tough time backing my 29 foot tt in. Nice paved walking and bike trails through the dunes. Would probably stay here again. It was full some days so reservations recommended. We camped at South Beach State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Truly an undescovered gem. I hate to give it a glowing review because I'd like to keep it a secret! Most sites are long enough for a big rig. Water and electric. No dump. Spectacular cliff top views and trails. Light house. Beautiful beaches you can walk for miles. First come first served. No reservations. Any day but Saturday you will be able to get a site. Many sites are almost secluded. Lots of shade. We camped at Cape Blanco State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Elk Country RV Resort & Campground, Trinidad, California

Overall Rating:

Our pad was dry grass covered gravel. Unmowed grass every where else. Wifi was difficult to get permission on most devices. Office offered no help getting access. This was a bit of a problem due to poor cell service in the area. The big draw is the elk herd that wanders throughout the campground sometimes grazing or laying down right next to your rv. Overall Rating:

Stayed here weekend before the 4th. Very crowded with many sites doubling up with friends. Dusty dirt roads. Lots of late night partying. Voltage is low could barely use our microwave. Could not use A/C due to lack of power. Would not give us the Good Sam discount due to prime time. It's a good location and we needed it so we stayed. If you're into camping under the giant redwoods this is OK. Close to the south end of the Ave of the Giants scenic drive. We camped at Redwoods River Resort in a Travel Trailer.
