Doheny State Beach, Dana Point, California

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in what we thought was an oceanfront space, but actually had NO view of the beach or water because of the huge sand berm. Every day a tractor pushed sand higher and higher to protect the park from ocean water surging up and (eventually?) going into the park should there be a storm. The beach was right on the other side of the berm, we just had to climb up and over to get there. The pictures on the park website show a view of the water (from the "ocean front" sites), but it's not so. The train goes by several times a day and also at night, but it doesn't blow the horn or sound too loud. It's dry camping at a clean and relatively quiet park right next to the beach. We enjoyed our stay, but were just a little disappointed we couldn't see the water. We camped at Doheny State Beach in a Motorhome.

Chula Vista RV Resort, Chula Vista, California

Date of Stay: April, 2017 - $85.00
Overall Rating:

We only stayed Sunday and Monday, but enjoyed the beautiful bay view, the pretty landscaping and overall relaxed feel of this resort. The place was almost full and it seems many are here for long stretches (a month or more), but it didn't feel crowed or noisy (except for the occasional jet that screamed by overhead-must be an airbase close). Although we didn't use the pool or jacuzzi, people really seemed to be enjoying it. The staff was courteous, helpful and friendly. They even sent a mama duck and her 8 babies to waddle through our site before we left. Precious! We camped at Chula Vista RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Arizona Oasis RV Resort , Ehrenberg, Arizona

Date of Stay: November, 2016 - $47.00
Overall Rating:

Arrived after hours and took the packet in the after hours pick up box with a map, gate code and remote for the cable. Our site #93 faced the river and was a nice view after hours on the freeway. We sat on the grassy area out front, facing the water, watching the sunset. Since it was two days before Thanksgiving there were quite a few other RV'ers there (although we didn't have anyone next to us on one side) and it was quiet. The site was fairly level and the hookups were easy. My son and husband enjoyed soaking in the hot jacuzzi after dinner. Checking out the next day was easy and the staff was very friendly. We would stay again. We camped at Arizona Oasis RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Mammoth Mountain RV Park, Mammoth Lakes, California

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This park is at the very beginning of Main Street as you enter Mammoth off 395. It's fairly large with two camping areas (both full hookup). One is in a wooded area and the other is located next to the wooded area on pavement. There's obviously many more trees in the wooded part, but since we stayed in Sept and the temperature wasn't too hot, we chose the paved side. Our site was #5 which had a view of the pool area and trees behind it. It wasn't completely level, but it worked out fine. There's a little noise from the street, but not bad at all. The opposite end of the park is next to a high school and there was a football game on Friday night with big lights and an announcer calling the plays. Everything was quiet by 10:00. The cable and Wifi worked well and the pool, jacuzzi, showers, laundry and grounds were well maintained. The staff is friendly and helpful. We weren't able to make a reservation by calling (they never answered the phone), but it wasn't a problem getting a space for two nights when we arrived on Friday. There's no onsite store (they sell some supplies, plus firewood and ice), but Mammoth has a free bus to take you all over town or you can bike to stores and restaurants. They have a dump station. We would stay here again. We camped at Mammoth Mountain RV Park in a Motorhome.

Highly recommend Giovanni's restaurant. We had a great pizza, but everything looked (and smelled) good.

Silver Strand State Beach, Coronado, California

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

As others have stated, the spaces are close together, but we had enough room to put both our slides out. There's a public restroom, but RV park guests aren't supposed to use it (but they do anyway). They're sticklers about check-in time (at least in the summer). The line starts building just before 2:00 and can take over an hour. There are four rows (100-400). The beach is only steps away with the 100 and 200 numbered spaces closest to the water - they're also the hardest to get. We were in the third row #303. We couldn't see the beach, but enjoyed the view of the bay. The last two rows in the park (spaces 300-400) hear cars from the main road that runs along the coast. Overall, this is good for enjoying the beach and mild weather (although it was really windy all 3 days we were there). You have to go into the town of Coronado, approximately 5 miles, to get food or supplies. There are also no fire rings or picnic tables at each site. We camped at Silver Strand State Beach in a Motorhome.

Furnace Creek (NPS Campground), Death Valley National Park, California

Date of Stay: March, 2016 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

We booked three nights through Recreation.gov and got a great rate using our America the Beautiful pass. Our site #43 was on the outer loop with full hookups and a nice view of the mountains. The pad was long and fairly flat with a nice distance between sites. The entrance to the park is one driveway past the Visitors Center which can be abit tricky to spot. We were able to walk to the Visitors Center (highly recommend) and walk alittle further to Furnace Creek resort next door and have a drink in their saloon. You can also pay $5 to use their pool and showers (no towels, hair dryers or outlets in the bathroom). The park was clean and relatively quiet for being completely full. The staff are around to keep things in check and offer help if needed. I would have rated it higher, if the bathrooms had showers. We camped at Furnace Creek (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Shadow Hills RV Resort, Indio, California

Date of Stay: January, 2016 - $63.00
Overall Rating:

Nice little park right off the freeway. Staff is very friendly and helpful. They assigned us a site against the back wall which is for smaller RV's and I asked (and was given) an interior site as I'm sensitive to noise. I'm glad I did, because even on the interior, I could hear some street noise at night and traffic sounds from the freeway. Everyone in the park is friendly with a lot of snow birds. Cable and wifi worked well, but the pool and jacuzzi were being worked on, so not heated. Our site #20 had a concrete slab, was nice and wide with a picnic table, shrubs on both sides and a small patch of grass. We camped at Shadow Hills RV Resort in a Motorhome.
