Whiteshell Provincial Park - Nutimik Lake Campground, Seven Sisters Falls, Manitoba

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We've been back here at least once a year and in that time it's obvious that government cutbacks have hit the Provincial Parks. Road conditions have seriously been neglected for some time. The gravel roads are a mess with washboard and littered with potholes. Keep your speed down and you will be fine. Reservations are strongly recommend as most sites are booked solid for the entire summer. Check in is fast and friendly, the staff has a vast knowledge of sights to see in the area. The sites are spaced so far apart you would hardly know that there are other people there. This campground is still in our top 3. We camped at Whiteshell Provincial Park - Nutimik Lake Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Check out the Natural History Museum at Nutimik, it is an authentic log building that houses a collection of birds and animals from the boreal forest. About a 10 minute drive east of the campground is the Bannock Point Petroforms, this rock formation was laid out thousands of years ago by the indigenous people of the area.

St. Malo Provincial Park, St. Malo, Manitoba

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Our site in bay 10 #14 was probably (in my opinion)the worst site in the park. Very narrow with low hanging branches. The road in the bay is also narrow, while backing in I couldn't see the post from the campsite across the road and of course put a nice sized dent in the front fender of my truck. Most sites have trees and branches that have grown in making them hard to get into with a larger unit. The pictures on their website must have been taken years ago. This site also has a weak breaker, it kept kicking off. The main beach area is very nice with lots of trees and green space. There is a concession stand that sells the usual beach food, burgers, hotdogs, fries, ice cream etc. We camped at St. Malo Provincial Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Icelandic State Park, Cavalier, North Dakota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

All interior roads are asphalt and in good condition. Sites are a mix of gravel, dirt and grass. All sites are electric and water only, although there is a dump station on the way out. There is a nice beach with a concession stand that operates on a limited schedule. We camped at Icelandic State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Red River State Recreation Campground, East Grand Forks, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

We were pleasantly surprised at how nice this campground is considering it's in the heart of East Grand Forks. All sites appear to be spacious, level and clean. Campground wifi is one of the best we've come across in ages. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and miles of paved walking and biking trails. Although we didn't see the restrooms or showers I imagine them to be as clean as the park itself. We most definitely will be back. We camped at Red River State Recreation Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Turtle Mountain Provincial Park, Boissevain, Manitoba

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

When we arrived at Adam Lake the check in office had a sign saying there were open but the door was locked. Since we knew what site we were in we headed there and set up. Upon plugging in our surge protector we found an open ground on the pedestal. Went back to the office and the sign was changed saying they were closed. The list of available sites that were posted was out of date. Since we couldn't talk to anyone about the electric issues we tried other sites in that bay and got the same results on the surge protector. After several attempts we found a site that was okay and moved in. A couple of hours later a fellow came up and said that he had a reservation for that site, so we had to move again. We found a site in a different bay where the power was good, set up and kept our fingers crossed. When there is no cell phone reception and no one to talk to what are you supposed to do? When we left in the morning we stopped at the office to lodge our complaints. They stated that they didn't know why the office had been closed for 2 days. What?the campground was nearly full and there was not a sole to look after campers checking in or their needs. The one positive thing I can say is the firewood is free. As much as we like to support our Provincial Parks I will never stay here again. We camped at Turtle Mountain Provincial Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Oak Island Resort, Virden, Manitoba

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

The name implies that is is a resort. Is it? No it’s a campground with a few extra amenities. Entrance to campground looks nice but once in things change. Pedestals are covered in cobwebs and dead bugs. There is a lot of trees which may hamper backing into a lot of sites. If you enjoy sitting in the shade most sites will do however if you enjoy the sun site 103 is your best bet. Pool use is available for a fee of $2.00/person/stay. Site maintenance could be better, site had roots sticking out of the ground and pot holes. Campground has mini-golf, concession stand and a store with very limited supplies. The beach across the road is no better, seaweed has washed up on shore and probably hasn't been cleaned up in weeks. Would I stay here again? Probably not. We camped at Oak Island Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Minnedosa Beach Campground, Minnedosa, Manitoba

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is run by the town of Minnedosa and on the shores of Lake Minnedosa. Our site was on the small side and very shade covered. It seems to be a mostly seasonal campground with a few transient spots. The park had 3 beaches,2 for public use and 1 for campers. There is only one garbage disposal area, is quite a walk from any of the campsites. Park offers 20 and 30 amp sites with water for the overnighters while the full hookup sites are taken by the seasonals. Splash Splash has set up an inflatable water park on the lake. Kayaks are available for rent. We camped at Minnedosa Beach Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Wasagaming Campground (Parks Canada), Riding Mountain National Park, Manitoba

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Avoid site 24 if at all possible, the site sits 6 feet lower than the roadways. Most pull thru sites are unlevel, the ones that aren't are paved. On top of the $41.00 per night camping fee , we paid another 31.20 for the park entry fee for 2 days. As others have posted the town and beach are within walking distance. We got 2 over the air channels, good cell reception but no wifi available. We camped at Wasagaming Campground (Parks Canada) in a Fifth Wheel.

Rainbow Beach Provincial Park, Ochre River , Manitoba

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $21.00
Overall Rating:

This campground is 15km east from the town of Dauphin on Dauphin Lake. Watch carefully for the entrance road, it sneaks up on you quickly. Sites are very private and spacious. Our site had 20 and 30 amp service with water. Restrooms and showers are modern and clean. Beach area has a playground with a play structure and a concession stand. There is also a beach volleyball court. There are some seasonal sites but most seem to be near the beach. There are 2 boat launches, one at each end of the campground. As an added bonus there is free firewood. There is excellent cell coverage, 1 over the air channel and no wifi. We camped at Rainbow Beach Provincial Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Steep Rock Beach Park, Steep Rock, Manitoba

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Gated campground with access card issued at check in. Our site was quite large with a gravel pad, grass sitting area and fire pit and picnic table. The campground store has all your basic needs, the nearest store and gas station is about 20kms away. There is a marina with boat slips available. There is no wifi or over the air channels, they claim the store and cafe have a cell booster but its useless. The cafe and licensed lounge have a deck that overlooks the lake. There is quite a bit of seasonal campers mixed in with the overnighters. Management allows golf carts and ATVs to be driven in the campground, as there is miles of trails to be ridden. Laundry is available for $2.00 for wash and $2.00 for drying. If you want to get away and disconnect from the rest of the world this is the place for you. The only negative thing is the 6km of dusty gravel roads. We camped at Steep Rock Beach Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Idle Wheels Rv Park, Gimli, Manitoba

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

This is mainly a seasonal campground with a few sites for overnight stays. Very friendly staff and seasonal campers, everyone had a wave and a smile. This campground sits along Hwy 9 so traffic noise can be heard. Power pedestals are older without breakers, 30 amps only. It was hot the weekend we were here so everyone had their air conditioners running which caused some problems with losing electric. The beach is about a half mile walk from the campground across the highway down a gravel road. Cell phone reception is spotty around the park and there is no wifi or over the air channels. We camped at Idle Wheels Rv Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Big Bog State Recreation Area, Waskish , Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $31.00
Overall Rating:

Small State Recreation Area with 31 spots and 6 cabins available. There is only electric sites, you can fill water tank at the spigot on your way in. The only negative thing I can say about this place is that there is no sewer or dump station available. The seasonal campground about a mile south will let you dump for a fee, or if you are headed north you can dump at Zippel Bay State Park. The campground is situated along the Tamarac River that leads to Upper Red Lake. The beach is a 5 minute walk away across the highway. The campground offers paddle board, kayak, canoe and boat rentals. If you forgot your fishing equipment they will loan you a rod and tackle. The campground has a boat launch and docks that line the banks of the river. Wifi is available in or around the check in office. There is also an electric vehicle charging station at the office. We camped at Big Bog State Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Prairie Lake Campground & RV, Grand Rapids, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Upon arrival we were escorted to our site and were guided in. Our site was quite level and spacious with a nice view of the lake. There is 14 overnight spots available, the rest are seasonal sites. Some of the trailers sitting there look like they haven't been cleaned since being setup. On site in particular had 3 units on it, and any left over area was covered with blue tarps. Restrooms and showers are old and outdated, women's showers were dirty. The campground and lake were very quiet, maybe because we were there during the week. We rated this place higher than we should have but only because of the view we had. Next time we are in Grand Rapids we will look for somewhere else to stay. Vagabond Village, Park Rapids, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

We called at the last minute and they were able to get us a spot. What an amazing resort, everything from a pool to a beach. The sites are level and the interior roads and sites are gravel. There is game room for the kids. Restrooms and showers are immaculately clean, along with clean washers and dryers. Wifi is among the best we've experienced in our travels. They also offer pontoon boats, canoes and kayaks for rent. There is quite a few seasonal/permanent trailers that are kept very clean and tidy. Would we stay here again? Heck yeah, one of our new favourite spots. We camped at Vagabond Village in a Fifth Wheel.

Lost Acres Resort, Blackduck, Minnesota

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Check in was fast, friendly and informative. The roads leading into the park are gravel with low hanging branches. Our site was quite large with some unevenness, front to back levelling was needed. The sites are not well defined so some were parked straight in, diagonal or sideways in their sites. There is also cabin rentals available. The lodge itself has a games room with a couple of video games, books and a pool table. The store sells t-shirts, hoodies, ice cream and cold drinks. The beach has a wide variety of water toys to use included in your stay. They also have boat and motor rentals available by the day or week. If you bring your own boat the launch fee of $15.00 and a $10.00/day/boat applies. If you decide to bring your pet there is also a $20.00/day/pet surcharge added. Their website claims to have wifi but its non-existent while over the air tv channels are limited. Would I return here? It's hard to say. We camped at Lost Acres Resort in a Fifth Wheel.
