Newman Sound Campground (Parks Canada), Terra Nova National Park, Newfoundland

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $29.00
Overall Rating:

Beautiful national park campground with lots of trees around and between sites. There's a 3 km trail around the campground with views of Newman Sound. This is one of the most beautiful campgrounds we've been in. Very quiet. Electric hook-up only, as typical in many national and provincial parks; we were lucky that a water tap was nearby. The dump site has four stations and is extremely roomy. We camped at Newman Sound Campground (Parks Canada) in a Motorhome.

Woodhaven RV Park of Halifax, Hammonds Plains, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $52.00
Overall Rating:

Nice and clean, lots of trees but enough room; many pull-throughs. Enjoyed walking through the campground. Half hour from Halifax, just on the edge of suburbs. We didn't learn that there had been a boil alert until two days later; sign on bathroom, which we don't use. I feel the park should have notified us. We camped at Woodhaven RV Park of Halifax in a Motorhome.

Arm of Gold Campground & RV Park, Little Bras d'Or, Nova Scotia

Date of Stay: August, 2018 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Very open and clean, fairly roomy, on a bluff overlooking the bay - a nice breeze. No trees. As they advertise, it is five minutes from the Newfoundland Ferry, and I saw folks checking in at 7 a.m., apparently getting off the morning ferry. Site was grass but very hard packed and level. Even though our site was near the highway, the noise is muffled by an embankment and we didn't notice it. We camped at Arm of Gold Campground & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Very convenient downtown, can walk everywhere. This is basically a gravel parking lot. Sites are close but plenty long. Manager is a character; he was very helpful. Sites were level. We camped at Hi Country RV Park in a Motorhome.

Of course you have to visit the Signpost forest, just a two-block walk from here. And there is Wye Lake just across the street, with a 1.5 mile boardwalk/walking path all the way around.

Kenny Lake Mercantile & RV Park, Copper Center, Alaska

Date of Stay: August, 2017 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We camped here to be close to Wrangell-St. Elias national park. This is the closest place except one in Chitina that didn't take reservations (although now I realize that wouldn't be a problem). This is your typical Alaska multi-purpose business - groceries/videos/souvenirs/diesel/propane/gas/hotel/laundry/showers/diner - except they have no cook right now so the diner is closed. The RV park is a gravel parking lot with lots of room to maneuver; wish they'd made the sites a bit wider. The site was not as level as it looked; high at the edge of the lot. No water at the site but there's a place to fill. Didn't use restrooms or showers but they were in the building with the hotel. We camped at Kenny Lake Mercantile & RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

This campground is 25 miles from the entrance to Wrangell-St. Elias national park. The 60-mile drive into the park is gravel, speed limit 35 mph. Very pretty, but lots of low clouds prevented us seeing the mountains. We did take a flight-seeing trip with Wrangell Air, it was AMAZING. There are countless, even unnamed glaciers, the largest is the size of Rhode Island. The views of the mountains and glaciers and verdant valleys were just stupendous. This was a splurge for us. Just do it!

Visit the US forest service visitor center four miles east for any information you need about the area. The tunnel to Whittier is $13 round trip for cars; Whittier is a tiny town with great views (although it was fogged in the day we went).

Northern-Moosed RV Park & Campground, Fox, Alaska

Date of Stay: July, 2017 - $32.00
Overall Rating:

Very "rustic". Sites are just grassy areas between trees that have been driven over a few times; owned trimmed some shrubs for us to get in. Quite overgrown vegetation. Interior "roads" also grassy and uneven. Did have some highway noise. Didn't use their water hook-up as owner advised it is safe but high in iron and discolored (said it wouldn't stain). We camped at Northern-Moosed RV Park & Campground in a Motorhome.

We love this park. Almost one there this time of year. Very large sites, trees, water, quiet. The camp host and maintenance folks are very friendly and helpful. And the red-headed woodpeckers and other birds are a treat. We camped at Jennings Ferry Campground COE in a Motorhome.

Cloquet River Campground, New Independence, Minnesota

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This park is only three years old; owner spent six years creating it. Nestled in trees by the Cloquet River; very picturesque. Sites are plenty big but not quite level. Sites aren't right next to each other, so not looking in neighbor's windows. No views of the river due to trees, but there's a dock and access. Very quiet (a little noisy on weekend).

The office is at the back of the campground loop; just pull up and wait and owner will be around in his golf cart. We camped at Cloquet River Campground in a Motorhome.

Legendary Waters Resort & Casino Campground, Red Cliff, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

A small park, next to the casino and overlooking Lake Superior. On a hillside with great views; site sizes are typical. Wi-fi available at casino cafe. Knife River Campground, Knife River, Minnesota

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Nice small park, only 25 sites. Our site #25 was the first one in but by far the largest. Next to road to marina but little traffic. Wi-Fi at the office but not at the site; water pressure was a bit low. Otherwise a great little park with just the basics, which is all we need. Oh, and there's a small vintage plane and a UFO! We camped at Knife River Campground in a Motorhome.

Northland Camping & RV Park, Superior, Wisconsin

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

Nice, quiet country park just minutes from Duluth. There was a bit of traffic

noise in the morning but didn't notice it at other times. Pads were gravel or concrete strips with grass between, and a few small trees. Pull throughs were long enough and alternated so that we were not really next to the neighbors. Manager was very friendly and a great tour guide!
