Point Sebago RV Resort, Casco, Maine

Date of Stay: September, 2017 - $90.00
Overall Rating:

This is one of the few options for this part of the country. It could be so better. Staff is cold and gives the impression that they are just doing a boring job, not providing service and care as they should, given they are in the hospitality business. Dirt sites which are mud in the rain. Large population of small kids on bikes and in golf carts. Makes driving a very cautious event. Setting is what makes it. The shore of Lake Sebago is sensational. Back to care, we awoke this morning to no water. Emergency phone line was a message machine. After one hour of waiting for call back, I went to front office to hear, "Oh, they are working on something, it should be back on soon." I hate when campgrounds show this kind of disrespect to customers. Answer your phone if you are going to do these kind of things! We camped at Point Sebago RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

La Junta KOA, La Junta, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

A standard KOA experience. Good enough but nothing special. Note to be careful of the water. Ours ran rusty, (straight from the spigot), for about ten gallons of flow before becoming clear. We were grateful for our water filtration. Some kind prior neighbor left dog waste just near my hookups. That told me that maintenance does not check sites after folks leave. We camped at La Junta KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Conejos River Campground, Antonito, Colorado

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

To visit old friends who have a cabin nearby, this was our convenient choice. It turned out great. Standard gravel site with a nice amount of trees spread throughout the grounds. You are in the mountains and this is not a resort and I am glad it is not referred to as that. The owners have a great story to share of becoming involved in owning this fresh air campground 15 years ago. They still care much for it and that shows. It made for a very comfortable two nights. We camped at Conejos River Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Fountain of Youth RV Park, Thermopolis, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Old and tired. At check in, our host endlessly apologized for the state of the grounds. Why draw attention to something that is obvious? Sites are close. Grounds are about as attractive as an ATV recreation track. Glad we were not here in the rain.

OK, that stated, if you want to visit the marvelous funk of Thermopolis, this is your place. We did the state park, home of the world's largest hot spring, and it was good, but this RV park has its own hot spring and pools. The pools are mineral laden and seem unclean but 1.3 million gallons of spring water flow through them each day. The water is hot and good. I often get a sketchy back from the agonies of setting up camp. 20 minutes in their pools and I was ready for Chubby Checker and the Twist.

Net net...stay here and enjoy, for one or two nights. We camped at Fountain of Youth RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated), Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $55.00
Overall Rating:

I feel bad for our NPS. They are being inundated for this 100th anniversary year and our administration has not pre-planned nor given funding to prepare our parks for the amazing crowds coming from around the world to see our natural wonders.

This park needs TLC and help. We had a stay of 3 weeks planned, (we full time), and were given a back of the park site. It was horrid. dusty, dirt, with pitted, gullied dirt road access. We were fortunate to relocate after two nights to the front. Don't stay here if you cannot get into sections A, B, C or D. Other than that: it is the only option for rigs to stay within the park with full hookups. That makes inconvenience worth it.

Watch out for Grizzlies! They occasionally wander through the camp. Laundry good. Wifi and cell horrible, (C'mon US Gov't, you created the internet. Can't you make it better at your Nat'l Parks?)

Food shopping within park marginal at best. Plan ahead. We camped at Fishing Bridge Campground (Concessionaire Operated) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

West Yellowstone town has decent grocery if you are over that way and need to replenish. Heard that Gardiner at north entrance has similar. Get out early to beat crowds and better chance of seeing wildlife. Expect traffic jams from wildlife sightings. Folks just stop in the middle of the road, and bison feel an entitlement to walk down roads and over bridges. That is part of the reason you are here, right?

The Virginian Lodge RV Resort, Jackson, Wyoming

Date of Stay: June, 2016 - $100.00
Overall Rating:

Pretty tight spacing but good enough. Many rules and regulations that are not policed. Nicely leveled sites are light gravel, lots of dirt. Could be messy with enough rain. We were dry for our visit. This is the only choice in town in Jackson, so it is easier to forgive shortcomings that would be more annoying at other parks, right? Got to say, the location is excellent for access to easy bike distance to the elk horn arc square of "downtown" Jackson. Driving to the close-by natural wonders is convenient and great. This is a fine example of a campground that you forgive the shortcomings in exchange for the access it gives you to the natural wonders many of us travel to see. We camped at The Virginian Lodge RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Pizza Caldera for a great, light style, (great crust, minimal piling on of sauce and cheese), Neapolitan style pizza. Go in the Silver Dollar bar, if not just to see. 36 bar stool settings with 16 old silver dollars inlaid at each space. Close to $30,000 current market worth of the best coin we've ever minted stretched out to your left and right.

The grill at the Jackson Hole Golf and Tennis Club opens up to the Tetons. Awesome view worth the average but good american menu.

Moore's RV Park (formerly Desert Rose Resort), Bloomfield, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

First off, the Resort claims to be at 4 corners, which is about 80 miles, one way to get to. Then you have use of the word "Resort". This park is in Bloomfield NM, which is a large player in NW New Mexico's "energy zone"., having multiple refining plants. Energy workers travel to jobs and this "Resort" is about 40% long term residents and the companion "landscaping" they provide. Don't get me wrong, they are good folks and the camp feels safe. The marketing department just needs to change the name to Desert Rose Campground. We stayed three nights to see surrounding ancient culture attractions. Happy to have dry weather as it is obvious the camp turns into mud when rains come. Clothes washers are clean enough for comfort but are old. One is avocado green, hmm, reminds of early marriage appliances. All said, this area is sparse in RV parks and this one is about as good a choice as any near. We camped at Moore's RV Park (formerly Desert Rose Resort) in a Fifth Wheel.

Wahweap RV and Campground, Page, Arizona

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

Location location location. Our site was on the perimeter of the park and we had a fine view of Lake Powell from it. They could trim the trees a bit. had to do some ourselves to keep from scratching the coach as we set in and as we exited our site. We stayed for 10 days and had a daily battle with an enormous population of ants. I know, I know, it is part of camping but this place was crazy populated. Non toxic diotomaceous earth dusted around helped keep them away from investigating our place.
Access to the affiliated resort hotel pool was a plus. Paved site nice also.
As good as you can get when camping at this part of Lake Powell. Staff was great and very helpful in one instance of trying to track down a packet of our forwarded mail. We camped at Wahweap RV and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Skyline Wilderness Park, Napa, California

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

It is windy and dusty, but that is part of camping, right? Gate to park closes early and it is so quiet at night. This is a county park that has RV sites. Not a RV park. There are some very fine hikes right from the campground. It worked for our needs at the time, but oh the dust...

I would choose another location next time. We camped at Skyline Wilderness Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Marina Dunes RV Park, Marina, California

Date of Stay: July, 2015 - $75.00
Overall Rating:

We knew we'd review this park similar to others when we booked it.

There are not too many other games available in this remarkable part of California. It is well located. Be ready for a tight back in if you are packing big. We have a 34" 5th wheel and had to jockey back and forth for 20 minutes to avoid low hanging trees, etc. Front office girls have a 'we do not care attitude,' and we hate that when we run into it. They couldn't care less about any inquiries or concerns we expressed. But, we could walk to close Marina State Beach and its wonderful surf and sand dunes.

Easy drive to Monterey, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove. Stay here for convenience. Ignore the staff and freeway noise and love the area. Again, there are few other choices to RV by Monterey. We camped at Marina Dunes RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Indian Flat RV Park, El Portal, California

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

If you are going to Yosemite to camp with a good size rig, there are not too many options for you. Indian Flat is a good one. This is not an RV resort by any means. Expect real basic plug in camping. Location is what you need and this has it. Good enough restaurant/lodge next door, (same ownership complex as RV park), and you can use pool at the lodge and their showers.

Manager was bend over backwards accommodating. A great guy. Hope he is still there when you visit. We really enjoyed the stay, and... it WAS camping, albeit with full hookups. We could get Dish TV from our site, but I bet not all sites could do that. Trees and mountains around. It will not be one of your greatest camping experiences, but visiting so close Yosemite will be. We camped at Indian Flat RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Anaheim RV Park, Anaheim, California

Date of Stay: February, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

You can't ask for a better RV stay for access to Disney. 1.5 miles from entrance and the resort shuttle has a stop within the RV resort. Nice tidy sites. Great, I'll repeat, great staff. We appreciated the polite and accommodating attention. We were a bit worried initially as there is no security fencing, but the neighborhood is calm and quiet save for the hum of I-5 traffic. We were there for a week and it was a smooth time. Morning USA Today and coffee and a muffin are a nice touch. We camped at Anaheim RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Napa Valley Expo RV Park, Napa, California

Date of Stay: October, 2014 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Generous access to generous sized pull through sites. Reception was a little gruff. Maybe our guy had had a bad day. Anyhow, it is within walking distance to downtown Napa and some very terrific restaurants. And, of course, opens the door to upper Napa Valley and the acclaimed scenery, climate and wineries. Sites are nice and wide. We love that. Only ding is entry access is a bit tricky, but once in, all is comfortable navigation. We camped at Napa Valley Expo RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.
