Route 66 RV Resort, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

Finding this park is a little confusing. Signage is small and not enough. From the round-about on the south side of I40. Take the hotel frontage road west. When the hotel parking lot ends turn left and follow the road straight. Keep going pass the hotel parking area in the rear. You will see a fence with an electronic gate. Go through the gate you will see the office on the left. This is a new park (not a campground) having all interior roads paved. All sites are cement and available in two flavors, standard and premium. Standard site have a 12 foot wide cement parking pads with gravel and desert landscaping. Premium sites are 16 feet wide. Some have green grass and some have gravel both have desert landscaping. Check-in was easy. You are required to have a $25 security deposit charged when you arrive. I asked about it and was told to cover things you might charge in the casino. It drops off if you don't charge anything. After check-in we were escorted to our site. Our site was level and all utilities worked as expected. Each person in your group is given a card that is good for a $5 credit towards food in the casino. You are informed that the water pressure here is 90 PSI and they recommend a water pressure regulator. When I connect my pressure regulator the non regulated side was 72 PSI. They offer a free shuttle to the casino and the truck travel plaza. The Amenity Center (clubhouse) contains the laundry, showers, gym, computer room and meeting room/game room. There is free hot chocolate, hot coffee and iced coffee provided in the main room. There is also a kitchen located just off the main room. There is a nice pool with men and women changing building. I did not see any showers. There is also what appears to be an open air bar of some type at the pool. There is WiFi available here, both 2.4 and 5G. We were not given and information about it. We camped at Route 66 RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Wanderlust Crossings RV Park, Weatherford, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $42.00
Overall Rating:

We have been RVing for over 17 years. Wanderlust is an example of the perfect RV park. My wife and I do not 'camp' with our motorhome. We are RVers that appreciate what Wanderlust has to offer. They have nailed it. The park is designed with today's modern and large RVs. Navigation is easy through this park. Streets are wide enough and sites large enough that no one needs to park in the street. Leaving your pull through site is just as easy as entering it. This park is only 2 years old. Everything is maintain well, beautiful landscaping throughout the park, the green grass between the sites is mowed and edged every week. The back in sites on the north side of the park do have trees and have a forest feel to them. There are no trees in the park other than the trees on the north side. Satellite reception is very good. All interior roads are paved and all sites are cement. Sites are level with good working utilities. There is a nice modern and clean bathhouse. They also have a dog wash room and a laundromat with a dollar bill changer. Spacing between the sites are grass and appear to be at least 20 feet between the cement pad for the RV. There are two dogs park with lush grass. The office has a nice area for RV supplies, snacks, a nice sitting area with large screen TV and two pool tables. Next to the office is a nicely equipped meeting building. Throughout the park you will find water features that add to the overall feeling of this park. That only thing that is missing is a pool, but a pool is something we never use anyway. The entrance to this park has a large water feature complete with fish. Very pleasing to the eyes. This is the perfect RV park for us. We camped at Wanderlust Crossings RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sallisaw / Fort Smith West KOA, Sallisaw, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $46.00
Overall Rating:

This is our first stay at a KOA in over 4 years. Both my wife and I are retired and we tend to stay away from KOA because the amenities offered are not what we typically are looking for. This KOA is no different. We feel that KOA is a very family orientated campground. Nothing wrong with that, our preference is more geared to the 55+ campgrounds. The public areas are well maintained, grass is mowed and everything is neat and clean. The bathrooms are really nice, modern and clean. There is a handicapped shower in the Mens room. This handicapped shower has its own toilet and is larger than the other shower stalls. Check-in was pleasant without any surprises. They do have a small menu of food available. Just call the office they will cook what you order and then deliver it to your site. All interior roads are gravel. For the price I would expect paved roads and paved or cement parking for the RV. There are a few low branches but no real problems driving to your site. Our site was level. Site surface was gravel and dirt. Our grass area was spotty and our neighbors slide partly extended over our picnic table. There is free WiFi here. Performance is on the low side with 2.83 Mbps download and 1.37 Mbps upload speed. Our Verizon data had speeds of 22.5 Mbps download and 1.86 Mbps upload speed. We did not use the campground WiFi. We were only here one night and only used the 50 amp service. Don't know what water pressure is here. We camped at Sallisaw / Fort Smith West KOA in a Motorhome.

Lower White River RV Park, Hazen, Arkansas

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great park for one night stays while traveling. The park is located just north of I40. If traveling west on I40 you can see the park from the exit. The park is a bare bones park. No pool, no bathrooms, no showers. All roads are paved as well as all sites. All utilities worked. All pull thru sites are not level. Sewer connections are at the extreme rear of sites. If you have a motorhome and towing a car you will need A LOT of sewer hose. We first pulled into site 5 and were not able to level our motorhome. We moved to site 8, still not level, but levelers were able to level the motor home. The sewer connection was not as far rear as site 5, but we still needed 20 feet of sewer hose. We were told we would be charge $30 with military discount, we were charged $35. So much for a discount. There is no office here, call the number posted at the entrance and someone will come by to collect your money. We camped at Lower White River RV Park in a Motorhome.

Red Bay RV Park, Red Bay, Alabama

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

This another campground to stay in other than the Tiffin campground when getting your motor home service. The Tiffin campground can not handle the amount of motor home wanting service. Numerous campgrounds that sprung up in the Red Bay area to handle the overflow. This campground is great for it's intended purpose. The sites are level, good power, good water pressure. The campground is just a large gravel parking lot for those awaiting service. The campground is much cleaner and utilities are better than the Tiffin campground. Tou can wash both your motor home and tow vehicle here. Sites are wide enough to park you tow vehicle next to your motor home. The only discount I am aware of is the pay for 5 nights and get the 6th and 7th night free. The weekly cost is $125 for 7 nights or $25 per night. We camped at Red Bay RV Park in a Motorhome.

Cages Bend COE, Gallatin, Tennessee

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Even though close to Nashville, still off the beaten path. The road leading directly to the campground is VERY narrow. Signage for the turn to the camp is difficult to see. I suggest using Google Earth to get an idea of where to turn. Roads inside campground are very narrow, one way with some low hanging tree limbs. Although narrow still easy to drive through in a large RV. Our site was back in right at the lake. Beautiful view. Our site was level, but campground is hilly with most sites having small cement retaining walls for the picnic table area. Our site had a round cement picnic table and cement benches. We had good shade, but that made it difficult to get satellite reception. With Dish we could only get satellites 110 and 119. This campground is typical of COE campgrounds, well maintained and clean. We did not use any of the facilities during our one night stay. We camped at Cages Bend COE in a Motorhome.

Whispering Hills RV Park, Georgetown, Kentucky

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Slightly out of the way. No direct exit off of I75. The road leading to the park is very narrow. Check-in was pleasant. One of the park rules is no mats or rugs on their dead grass. There is a $200 fine for doing that. There are some things that need improvement here. All interior roads are made up of what used to be gravel. What gravel remaining has turned into a very fine gray dust. Any vehicle driving on these dusty roads creates tons of dust. There used to be grass here but there is not any irrigation for the grass areas so most of the grass is dead or dying. Sites throughout this park are fairly close together. Roads are narrow . Back in sites do not have enough room to park their vehicle without in being in the road. There a lot of seasonals here. Seasonal sites are well maintained. Utilities worked well. There is not much shade and very few trees in this park. There is a pool, but it was closed. The park also offers a large covered group area with a stage and there is a nice playground area. Water pressure is 72 psi and the office recommends a water regulator. Power was stable during our stay. With both legs of 50 amp service at 119vac. According to the park brochure there are 21 restrooms here. Each restroom has it own shower, sink, toilet and is private. Overall the restrooms looked clean. The park has WiFi throughout. WiFi is provided by AT&T. We did not use the park WiFi. Our own WiFi got over 25Mbps download speeds. If the roads here were paved and site spacing was not so close I would have rated this an 7 or 8. Our discounted rate of $41 a night is high for what this park has to offer. We camped at Whispering Hills RV Park in a Motorhome.

High Pines RV Park, Kane, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $41.00
Overall Rating:

Most GPS devices have problems finding this campground. Go to the campground website to get the GPS coordinates. This campground is located approximately .4 of a mile north of the intersection of Route 6 and Route 219 - Lantz Corners. The current owners took over this campground in 2012 and have made numerous improvements. Some of those improvements are a new water well and new 50 amp power pedestals. Checking in was confusing, we were offered a discount and a free ½ day, Not sure how our discount was calculated or where the ½ worked into our rate. In fact I don't think we did get a discount. Their website does not list rates so there is no way to verify our rate. Even with a weekly rate that ended on a Saturday, we were charge more for that Saturday. We were also told 'to be fair to others' if we used more electric than we should, we would be charge for electric. Charging for electric on a weekly rate is not the norm. We were never told what the 'used more than we should' amount was. When we checked out we were told we were OK on electric usage. We used 127 kwh during our stay so I guess we were under the 'more than we should' limit. In twenty years of camping this was the most confusing check-in ever. Our site had good power, 128v on each leg of the 50 amp service. Water pressure was 48 psi. Our site was level but mostly overgrown gravel and grass. All sites have a picnic table and fire ring. For satellite users sites 6, 7 and 8 are the best choices for either Direct TV or Dish. There is a game room/meeting with Air Hockey, Fosse Ball, table tennis, a pool table and tables for a group meeting. The campground is kept clean and mowed. You find a fair amount of seasonals , but those are kept well maintained. Overall the campground is very quiet and peaceful. We camped at High Pines RV Park in a Motorhome.

Ives Run COE, Tioga, Pennsylvania

Date of Stay: September, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second time to Ives Run. This time we had friends along and they brought their boat. There are no boat fees to use lake. Weather was perfect for our stay. We had site 1. The site was level, water pressure was 60 psi and voltage for the 50 amp service was 127/126 vac. We were able to get Dish on satellite 61.5. Trees can be an issue getting satellite reception at this campground. We did have electrical issues at this site. As we would approach using 30 to 35 amps the 50 amp breaker would trip. I reported the problem to the campground host, but nothing was done to fix the problem. This was an issue when leaving our dog in the motor home while we were out. The ACs would draw just enough current to trip the breaker. There is not anyone running this campground. No one mans the main gate to check in. The instructions are left at the site you reserved telling you to call to check in or be charged a late fee. No one ever answered the phone number you are required to call for checking in. The campground host just said not to worry about it. Over all the campground is what you would expect of a COE campground. Beautiful grounds, large campsites. But there were a few exception. The trees on the roads for each campground loop require trimming. We had numerous branches drag across the roof of our motor home and the gravel area for the picnic table are very over grown with grass and weeds. Overall maintenance is performed here but there are areas that need attention. I don't understand why there are not any employees overseeing this campground. It appears the few campground host are the only ones working here. Not good for any campground. Where is the management? We camped at Ives Run COE in a Motorhome.

Old Federal COE, Flowery Branch, Georgia

Date of Stay: August, 2019 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

Typical of COE campgrounds. Beautiful sites with almost everysite have sometype of lake view. Our site (60) was a back-in and level. 50 Amp service was stable and water pressure was 50 psi. Lots of space between sites and grass throughout campground was freshly mowed. Although the road here are easy to navigate with a large RV. Each leg of the campground is a dead end. The dead ends are not large enough for a large RV to turn around without making a couple of Y turns. The only negative was the bath house for west side of this campground was closed during our stay. The hand written posted sign read 'out of order'. Both Mens and Womens restroom were locked as well as the room with the washer and dryer. In the one open Bath House the Mens room is clean, but in need of repair and updating. There is a problem with recreaton.gov website for this campground. The satellite photo that has sites 59, 60, and 61 has those sites listed incorrectly. Site 59 is not maked, site 60 is marked 59, site 61 is marked 60 and site 61 is actually the Bath House that was closed during our stay. We camped at Old Federal COE in a Motorhome.

Campground at Barnes Crossing, Tupelo, Mississippi

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

Nice well maintained park. We had reservations but office was closed. We found our packet envelope and site assignment at the office door. Our site was a long pull thru. I did not need to disconnect the car in tow. Site not level but levelers on motorhome leveled the motorhome without problems. This park is heavily treed. Most sites can not get satellite reception. The park does have WiFi and cable but we did not use them. Water and power worked fine. When turning from the main road to Campground Road, Campground Road is narrow and makes for a tight turn on to it. This is a nice park and well maintained. It's a little pricey for just one night. But makes up for in in appearance and being well maintained. Verizon cell and AT&T data worked well. We camped at Campground at Barnes Crossing in a Motorhome.

Ivy's Cove RV Retreat, Russellville, Arkansas

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

Nice campground. When we arrived at 2:30 PM the office was closed. We had reservations and there was a number to call. No one answered the call. But there were instructions to do self registrations. I picked up the packet and found a site to use for the night. I had just parked and got a call back from the number I had called. I explained we had a reservations and just did the self registration. The manager said no problem and gave me the name of the WiFi and password. After setting up I tried to log into the campground WiFi. Problem there was no WiFi network with the information the manager gave me. No problem we just use our own AT&T WiFi. Power, water and sewer all worked correctly. There are only 23 sites at this park. Looks like the RVs on the perimeter are permanent residents. Not a bad thing all RVs were is great shape. Road to the office is paved, roads in the park are gravel and in good shape. There is shade here and a few sites have clear view of the sky for satellite. Both Verizon cell and AT&T data worked well. This park is well maintained, grass is mowed and appearance is good. We camped at Ivy's Cove RV Retreat in a Motorhome.

Homolovi Ruins State Park, Winslow, Arizona

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

This was our second stay here. Our previous stay was three nights. One day to take in Winslow, AZ and another day to explore the park. This time we just used it as an overnight stop. The park is interesting, but don't expect to see 'ruins' here. There are not any above ground ruins. What can be seen has mostly be excavated at or below ground level. Still very interesting. Roads are a little rough inside the park with large cracks crossing the asphalt. Power was stable at 120v on both legs of the 50 amp service. We did not hook up to the water. The park is experiencing problems with their water system. You are asked to limit your shower to five minutes. Verizon, AT&T and satellite reception all very good. You could easily see what this park has to offer in 1 or 2 days. The $35 fee breaks down to $30 for the campsite and $5 for the reservation fee. We will return here. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

Vista Del Sol RV Resort, Bullhead City, Arizona

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

If this isn't the cleanest/nicest RV resort in Bullhead AZ, it comes very close. All roads are paved, 16x60 cement pads for your RV with gravel on the remaining of your site. Facilities are immaculate! There seems to be activities scheduled almost daily. A very pleasant park to stay in. But nothing is perfect. The biggest negative of staying here is the wind. It blows almost daily. Our worst was three days of winds 35 mph to 45 mph with gusts over 80 mph! We pulled in all slides and lowered the satellite antenna. Later I put 2 inch cargo tie-downs over the slide toppers and that allowed us to keep our slides out without destroying the toppers. Just about every motorhome on the north ridge of the park did this. With the constant wind it is almost impossible to leave anything outside. No chairs or rugs out because of the wind. If this type of wind and remaining indoors for days at a time troubles you then you might want to go else where. BTW, when I questioned the office about the wind when registering I got 'What winds' as their response. The water quality here in Bullhead City is extreme poor. The water department for the city claims 58/60 g or over 1000 ppm of hardness. Bring a water softner with you. I've heard you can rent them from some company in Bullhead for about $25 a month. Look at the pictures I've uploaded of my water filter. There is some type of brown substance that is trapped by the filter. It looks nasty, don't know if it is. Water pressure is another issue here. Water pressure is near 60 psi until you start using it. Pressure drops to about 10 psi, read before my water pressure regulator. After turning off the water pressure slowly raises back to 60 psi. We camped at Vista Del Sol RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Desert Eagle RV Park (Military FamCamp), Nellis AFB, Nevada

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $24.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in the older section. We normally are very happy with our stays at military FamCamps, but this one really let us down. We experienced three problems here that we could not get resolved. Upon checking in I told the office we had our son with us and he would be with us for three nights. After being charged I notice I was charged extra for our entire stay, not just the three nights. Their response was they could not do a refund. OK only $14. The second day here we were notified that the water would be turn off for five days. Why were we not informed at check in of the scheduled water outage? If we knew about it we would have gone elsewhere. I asked if I could get any discount because of the water outage. I was told no discounts or refunds. The five day water outage actually turned into 6 days without water. The next problem was with mail being delivered. A prescription arrived but for whatever reason the office refused it and had it returned. We were never informed they did this. We only found out about when we called the pharmacy. The pharmacy verified they sent it to us using the exact address required by the office. During our stay we had four other packages delivered here without issues. Why reject a prescription? The office here seems to be run by folks who stay here and don't really want to help out other RVs. This is really disappointing customer service. I gave a poor rating on value, because we are paying for FHUs and did not have FHUs for our entire stay. I also gave a poor rating because of the lousy customer service we experienced here. I gave a poor satisfactory rating for cleanliness. Overall fair condition, but older section does need some cleanup and maintenance. We camped at Desert Eagle RV Park (Military FamCamp) in a Motorhome.
