Collins Lake Recreation Area, Browns Valley, California

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

Been here several times and can't wait to go again. The staff is great. One of the workers spent an hour helping us try to get our boat motor started. We finally gave up and rented one of their boats and had a lovely day on the lake, which wasn't crowded at all. The campground was very clean. Be prepared for zero cell or WiFi in the campground unless you go right behind the store. We camped at Collins Lake Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Westport Beach RV Park and Campground (formerly Westport Beach / N Men, Westport, California

Date of Stay: March, 2018 - $60.00
Overall Rating:

Lovely campsites with a short, easy walk to a beautiful beach. We could see the ocean from our site. Lots of dogs and kids in the park. Steep, narrow entrance into the park. The RV sites are gravel but with some dirt and growth, and since it rained during our stay, our site was a little muddy. Very nice park staff. We camped at Westport Beach RV Park and Campground (formerly Westport Beach / N Men in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The whale festival was going on in nearby Fort Bragg and we were lucky enough to see a couple dozen whales from shore as they migrated north. If you have a tow vehicle, drive 10 miles north on Highway 1 to the Redwood Grove & Picnic Area. It's a misty little grove just off the highway where you can explore beautiful trails among old growth redwood trees along historic Cottoneva Creek. You'll likely have the grove all to yourself.

49er RV Ranch, Columbia, California

Date of Stay: December, 2017 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

Our two sites were elevated and separated from other campers, so we had an excellent view (spotted several deer) with some privacy. Loved the free hot dogs on Friday night! The bathrooms were old but adequate. The fenced dog run is convenient and well-maintained. The park is clean and quiet with a friendly staff. Don't trust your GPS for directions. We camped at 49er RV Ranch in a Motorhome.

Bar J Hitchin Post RV, Sweetwater, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

This RV park is the best thing to happen to camping in Sweetwater. I was cautious because the last park we stayed at in Sweetwater (just across the freeway) had so many stickers and goatheads that our dog wouldn't step out of the RV. But Bar J does a great job with their landscaping and keeping the grass healthy. There's lots of room between sites. The bathrooms are immaculate. The hosts are friendly and helpful. The location is ideal (if you can handle a little freeway noise). This would be a premier RV park in any city. Bar J, welcome to Sweetwater! We camped at Bar J Hitchin Post RV in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Love's Travel Stop is just across the street.

You won't see this RV park on Google Earth yet (as of this Oct 2016 post) because it's so new. But the directions are available in Google Maps.

Coachland RV Park, Truckee, California

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $57.00
Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful park with lots of grass and trees. Although the spaces are close, it still feels like you're in a forest. When we visited there were lots of kids and dogs. Fortunately the manager was strict about keeping dogs on a leash in the park, but there's a large off-leash dog run with a separate fenced area for smaller dogs. WiFi is spotty. Surprisingly I saw only one toilet and shower for women and one for men. There are plenty of guest parking spots. We camped at Coachland RV Park in a Motorhome.

Sparks Marina RV Park, Sparks, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

Pros:

The park was well-maintained and filled with gorgeous RVs.

Having a hot dog vendor on site one day was a nice touch.

Staff was very nice and helpful.

Sites were plenty big. Restrooms were huge.

Cons:

The dog area smelled bad. The reason is that dogs aren't allowed to pee anyplace but the dog area, even though there are lots of bushes at the end of each row and around the entire park perimeter. It's a strange setup and not very pet-friendly. Dogs are supposed to be on leash even in the dog area, although many people didn't abide by that.

I would have preferred real grass instead of astroturf in each site.

Our site backed up to a noisy self-serve truck wash that was open all night. We camped at Sparks Marina RV Park in a Motorhome.

Reno KOA at Boomtown, Verdi, Nevada

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Nice to accommodate three RVs traveling together by putting us next to each other. Easy access from freeway. Easy walk to casino. Clean, well-maintained park. Cons: Bad WiFi. Small dog run for such a large park. Some pads were uneven. We camped at Reno KOA at Boomtown in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We scheduled a stay at this RV park specifically because our RV needed to be serviced and washed, and the Blue Beacon Truck Wash and Profleet Truck Lube are a half mile from the park and right next to each other. Quick and convenient.
