Cleveland County Fairgrounds, Norman, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

Cleveland County Fairgrounds RV Park is easy to find from I-35 and Robinson Rd. in Norman OK. We had not been here before so it took a few minutes to figure out that their sites zigzag along the fenceline. All sites are backins. The parking area is gravel and some electric plugins are two-to-a-post. After dark there is good security lighting. The staff in the office were friendly and helpful. There was some noise from passing trains, but balancing that was the availability of 50+ channels of antenna tv. This campground is a good value for the money. We camped at Cleveland County Fairgrounds in a Fifth Wheel.

Double J Campground and RV Park, Chatham, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2016 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed over Labor Day. The park was full and we still had good water pressure. Double J RV Park is very convenient to Interstate 55 and Springfield. The office is open late and has snacks and a TV area even though the sites have cable connections. Many sites have nice shade trees. They have a new pool. We camped at Double J Campground and RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Fuel was less expensive in Chatham than in Springfield. We ate at Chesapeake Seafood House, Westwoods, and Pizza Ranch. Groceries are a good price at Meijer.

Gunsmoke RV Park, Dodge City, Kansas

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Gunsmoke RV Park was easy to find. We have a big rig and were able to navigate the interior road well. It was quiet. There was a nice little store in the office area. New trees were growing well, but were not yet tall enough to shade our RV. Our site had grass for the dog but the end of the row had a great place for dog-walking. We camped at Gunsmoke RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Groceries and fuel were available at a nice Dillons (Kroger) on 14th St. The Walmart across from Dillons was crowded.

Shoemaker RV Park, Bevier, Missouri

Date of Stay: August, 2016 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Their office is closed on Sunday. We had made a reservation so we had a site number. As we set up, the camp host checked us in from her golf cart! Nice, personal service! Overnight campers are parked near the office and service area for easy in and out. We had nice shade trees. There is no cable hookup but several stations were available on our antenna. There was very little road noise although it is close to the highway. We camped at Shoemaker RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

There is a nice barbecue place about 5 miles away-Uncle Thad's in Macon. Also in downtown Macon there is an actual Ben Franklin store-wonderful store to shop as a break from driving.

Frog City RV Park, Duson, Louisiana

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

Gravel site is almost level, utilities work OK. Park is close to Lafayette but across a fence from a truck stop with noise all night. This park's web site has a March/April discount price posted on it. We called 3/25 for a one-night stay on 4/13. Frog City charged our card on 03/25 at the full price and would not give us the discount on 4/13 after we repeatedly asked. We will not be staying here again. Warning--always ask if there is a "special" when you call ahead. We camped at Frog City RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Roady's Truck Stop next door advertises a restaurant. Food service begins at 6 am and it closes at 5 pm. There is, however, excellent access to diesel fuel.

There is a lot to see and do in the Lafayette area.
