Elkhart Campground, Elkhart, Indiana

Date of Stay: May, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

Wide open near highways yet country setting, bordered by corn fields and woods. Nice walk through thick woods (mowed trail) for myself and the golden retriever. Very spacious, mostly pull throughs, good water, electric and sewer. Didn't try the cable as there was plenty of over the air channels. Office person was nice, good selection of trade books and $2.99 used movies. RV parts places nearby (RV Nation 1 mile behind K Mart) Many more in the area. Good Restaurant Simonton Lake Tavern, just north on 19, good food, good prices. Elkhart is a prosperous town again, of course there is a Walmart nearby. Our second stay here, won't be the last. We camped at Elkhart Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Very dog friendly, pretty good wi fi, ground asphalt for roadways was clean, lots to do nearby, tour an RV factory, see the Amish crafts and taste the rich food. Visit E&S Variety on Hwy 5 just north of 20. Good stuff at good prices. Also the famous Shipshewana Flea Market is also on 5 a mile or so north of 20. Check dates, not always open.

Corral RV Park, Dalhart, Texas

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Not much in this part of the country, we were passing through but were very impressed with the park. Very large spaces, thin layer of small gravel but clean, good hookups, 50 amp, dump, good water, cable reminded me of Russian TV (snow) but lots of channels (48), snow problem may have been that site (44). They even provide the cable attached to their post. (30 ft). Met the neighbors, mostly transient "harvesters" there for the length of their jobs. Nice people with nice dogs. Lots of room to walk. Highly recommend this place if you're on the road and passing through on highways 54 or 87. Lots of room for big rigs. We camped at Corral RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

No Wal Mart but the United Food Stores has a nice selection.

This is a railroad town so expect horns and such. There are some of the biggest feed lots I've ever seen on 54 west, make El Paso's look small. Also 1000's of acre fields on both sides of smooth highways. Great way to go.

American RV Resort, Albuquerque, New Mexico

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $36.00
Overall Rating:

We didn't pick this park; it picked us. Tired out after driving from Monument Valley, in sun, wind, dust, lightning, thunder snow, hail and rain. The park next door appeared full and this was a "good sam" park. Super service, guided into the pull thru site, all paved with river gravel over all the sites. 50 AMP w/full hooks. Nice doggie park and doggie litter bags placed throughout the park. Lots of friendly (happy satisfied people) throughout the park. Right on the Xway but not too bad with thermal pane window in the motor home. On the flight path of an airport as well but they shut down pretty much over night. Easy to get to, good value. We were just passing through but if we needed to stay for any reason it would be a good thing. Thanks American RV. We camped at American RV Resort in a Motorhome.

Goulding's Lodge & Campground, Oljato-Monument Valley, Utah

Date of Stay: April, 2015 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

As mentioned earlier, the sites are a bit narrow but the location is right in the sandstone hills near the monument. 50amps, good water, good sewer, dusty with wind but this is the nature of this desert. We needed our heater in late April and our golden retriever gained a reddish hue as did the underside of the clouds passing over monument valley. It's a very good deal considering it is in the middle of nowhere, run by the friendly/artistic Navajo Indians, with monument nearby. There are tours available and a self drive as well. Many campers walk up to a hidden stone arch adjacent to the campground. There are many views you won't regret staying here guaranteed. Pets are welcome but please pick up if you own a dog. There are a couple local cats that don't. We camped at Goulding's Lodge & Campground in a Motorhome.

Self driven tour of Monument Valley $20 one car, or various tours $56 - $70 per person from a couple hours to all day (with meal) in open pickup truck/bus tour type vehicles. Take sunglasses, water bottle and jacket as conditions change fast.
