Elks Lodge #41 (Members Only), Lockport, New York

Date of Stay: July, 2019 - $15.00
Overall Rating:

There are 4 sites in back of the lodge in the parking lot, all back ins. Electric is 30-amp and there is water hook up. The electric and water stanchions are in a central spot so RVs on the end need really long extensions to reach the plug ins. Folks in the lodge are very friendly. The lodge is close to nearby tourist activities. There is no WiFi or cable TV outside. The lounge is open six days a week from 1 to 7. There is no dump on site. You could use a nearby water treatment plant dump site but it was disgusting. We drove to a nearby campground and dumped when we left. All in all, this was a good place to camp. We camped at Elks Lodge #41 (Members Only) in a Fifth Wheel.

Tomorrow's Stars RV Resort, South Charleston, Ohio

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $39.00
Overall Rating:

This is a very nice resort. There are tons of activities for campers to enjoy. The pool looked very inviting. Out hookups worked fine. Our site was grass and even though it rained heavily, our site did not turn into a muddy mess. Drainage is good. There is no WiFi at the campsites. I-70 is next to the campground and can be disturbing to sensitive folks. OTA TV gave many channels. We camped at Tomorrow's Stars RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Hickory Hills Campground, Spencer, Indiana

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $48.00
Overall Rating:

In our 6 years on the road as full timers, this has to be one of the nicest campgrounds we have ever stayed in. The grounds were neat and very well maintained. The hookups worked great. The WiFi was good. The pool was very inviting. The restrooms were cute and functional with watering cans for showerheads and buckets for sinks. The grounds are very large. All the RVs parked in their permanent sites were clean, neat and squared away. There were new buildings being built and gravel being brought in. Out pull thru site was an easy in and out. My only complaint is the narrow lane going into the campground. What happens when two RVs meet head to head on this single lane road? Regardless, this is a very nice campground. We camped at Hickory Hills Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

RV Express RV Park, Marshfield, Missouri

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

This was a great stop over on our way to St. Louis from Tulsa, OK. The place was paved, neat, and well laid out. We had a pull through site with full hookups. The WiFi was excellent. They even had a pool! Also, laundry machines and showers. A small place but offering everything you could need. They were a quick pull off on I-44 and drive back on. We camped at RV Express RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tinker AFB Famcamp (Military FamCamp), Tinker AFB, Oklahoma

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

This is an older park and tight to navigate in. We had to have nearby campers move their trucks when coming in and when going out. Full hookups worked fine. Use the Gott Gate to get in the Campground (off route 59 and Air Depot Rd). There is no WiFi. The washers and dryers are just 50 cents each. Base facilities were available. There are trails to hike in the area. The camp host was very friendly and informative. We camped at Tinker AFB Famcamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

Texas Route 66 RV Park (formerly West 40 RV Park), Shamrock, Texas

Date of Stay: June, 2019 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

We were the only campers here. Campsite was pull thru with grass surface. The campground is getting an upgrade/make-over and the owners are not actively advertising right now even though they are open for business. We had full hookups that worked fine as did the WiFi. OTA TV is terrible with only 4 channels available. If you are a light sleeper, traffic noise from I-40 could be a problem. We camped at Texas Route 66 RV Park (formerly West 40 RV Park) in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Full hookups worked well. Clerks were friendly. WiFi and TV cable were a laugh (didn't work). They offer coffee and muffins in the morning. The campground is very large and good for large musters of caravans. Sites are gravel dirt; inner road is paved. Site was level and pull thru. We camped at OK RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Hickiwan Trails RV Park, Ajo, Arizona

Date of Stay: March, 2019 - $19.00
Overall Rating:

We had 30 amp, water and sewer hookups. The woman who checked us in was super friendly. The sites are roomy with a concrete patio. The campground is behind a small casino and convenience store. It's not Las Vegas but we had a fun hour playing the slots. There is a herd (pack?) of about 20 wild donkeys in the desert area behind the campground. You can hike trails and maybe come across them. We fed them carrots and apples. Just remember they are wild animals and keep a respectful distance. We camped at Hickiwan Trails RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This is a first-come, first-serve campground. The sites are close and maneuvering can be challenging. There is no wifi in the Campground. The Lodge is open with special events going on all the time. RVs are coming and going every day. FHUs worked fine. The campground is in an industrial park and there are milk tankers delivering 24/7. The staff is very friendly as is the camp host. Rock Hound State Park, Deming, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $14.00
Overall Rating:

This is a great place to camp! It is just 10 miles outside of town yet has the feeling of being out in the wilderness. The campground is nestled at the base of a mountain and offers two walking trails as well as the opportunity to collect 15 lbs. of rocks, gems and thunder eggs a day. The trails and campground are very well maintained. There is no WiFi and no sewer hookup. There is a dump station that is easy to access. The camp host is on top of things. He greeted us almost immediately as we pulled into the campground and offered a choice of two open sites. The sites have lots of room with 30 amp electric and water hookups. The bathrooms are clean, tiled, and large. The skies are magnificent at night and the twinkling lights of the town below are almost magical. We thoroughly enjoyed 3 days here despite the cold snap that had us unhooking the water at night. Most sites are back-in. Dry camping is also available as well as a group site. We camped at Rock Hound State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Holloman AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp), Holloman AFB, New Mexico

Date of Stay: February, 2019 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed 3 nights. All hookups worked fine. The WiFi never worked. The laundry machines were $1 each and worked fine. We registered in the laundry room as the camp host was off duty when we arrived. After that, we never needed the host so it didn't matter if he was there or not. There are 12 new sites giving the FamCamp 36 spaces altogether. There are plans to build a gazebo and plant trees. They need to take care of the club car with the flat tire. What self respecting AFB would let that sit there for as long as it has??? We camped at Holloman AFB FamCamp (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a delightful RV Park. It is nice and close to town. Hookups worked fine even through some rough t'storms. WiFi was excellent. Laundry room is large and clean with reasonable cost. Lots of social activities take place among the winter Texans. Wish the dog park was bigger and the pet walk area was not stones. We camped at Fredericksburg RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Fort Hood BLORA Rec Area (Military FamCamp), Fort Hood Army Post, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $18.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed on the Deer Park loop which has 28 campsites. Although there are full hookups, we only got 30-amp and water hookups. Several trailers were parked at FHU sites but no one was there the entire week we were there. The Nature in Lights Christmas lights display was going on and was very pretty to see. There is no WiFi. The lake water was very high and had recently flooded the area. The concrete pad was narrow and had sharp drop off at the edges. The trees were too close to the campsite and needed to have branches trimmed back. Security patrols the area regularly. We camped at Fort Hood BLORA Rec Area (Military FamCamp) in a Fifth Wheel.

McKinney Falls State Park, Austin, Texas

Date of Stay: November, 2018 - $25.00
Overall Rating:

Beware of the pull thru sites. They have a mean bend that prevents a fifth wheel from maneuvering in them. There are many trees so watch out for overhanging branches. The 30-amp electric and water hookups worked fine. The dump station was easy to use. Watch out for a coyote in the campground. The campground is very nice and the trail along the falls is pleasant. The campground phone was out of order and the staff seemed quite happy about it. There is no WiFi. The fire ring and picnic tables are at a ridiculous distance at the back of the campsite. We camped at McKinney Falls State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Corpus Christi RV Park FamCamp (formerly Shields Park NAS Recreation A, Corpus Christi, Texas

Date of Stay: October, 2018 - $20.00
Overall Rating:

When we called to make a reservation at Campground B, Paul told us sites were assigned upon arrival. Yet when we checked in, the gal at the counter told us we had been assigned to Campground A. She said Campground B was booked for the weekend. We were given 5 sites to choose from in A. The first had some kind of construction going on. The next two were under water (thanks to heavy rains). The third had a driveway that was too narrow to get into. The last had a low hanging tree. We wound up backing in at an angle to avoid the low hanging branches, putting us on the soft grass. The electric stanchion was very far in back of the site. Walking around Campground B over the weekend, we noted 6 empty sites on Saturday and 8 on Sunday. It seems like they don't know how to manage their reservation system. NAS-CCAD seems to be on the bottom of the funding list. There were potholed roads, broken sidewalks, abandoned dog park, neglected playing field, rusty and broken storage units, and a crumbling Seawall - to name just a few issues. Campground A seems to be left to devolve on its own. Campground B is newer with concrete pads and reasonably placed hookups. The laundry was free. Hookups worked fine. WiFi was excellent. The base is small and the campground is close to the NEX and commissary. We camped at Corpus Christi RV Park FamCamp (formerly Shields Park NAS Recreation A in a Fifth Wheel.
