Park Ridge RV Campground, Van Buren, Arkansas

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $43.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for one night while traveling through the area. The staff member we spoke with was very friendly and gave us a spot that was large enough for our camper and our extra vehicle. Our site was mostly level. The bathhouse, however, and the area surrounding it, were terrible. The shower stalls were filthy, as were the toilet stalls. The door did not latch on the stall, and there were more than a few bugs. The wall separating the shower stalls was partially rotted and moved when you leaned against it. There were used band-aids on the floor, and a LOT of dirt. The men's bathroom was in similar shape and reeked of urine. There was no mirror at all in the men's room. The area outside of the bathhouse was covered with tools and cigarette butts and other small bits of trash. This was probably the worst bathhouse we have ever seen, especially for the price, which was among the most expensive of our cross-country trip. I feel bad about writing this in my review because the staff was so very nice, but unless you are completely self-contained and are sure you won't need to use the bathhouse, avoid this campground. We camped at Park Ridge RV Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Spring Lake RV Resort, Crossville, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here just one night on our way through the area. This park was very clean, and the owners accommodated our camper, our minivan, and our moving truck. Our site was long and mostly level. The bathrooms were very clean, as were the sites themselves. We camped here in a 42 ft. fifth wheel. We camped at Spring Lake RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Meteor Crater RV Park, Winslow, Arizona

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $30.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed in this park for one night on our way through. We have stayed here before when traveling cross-country, and like it because it is easy to access from Interstate 40. The sites we have had before were long and level, but this time we had to unhook our tow vehicle in order to level from front to back, and there was not enough room to park our second vehicle. We had a moving truck with us and at first they said we would have to pay for two sites in order to park it, but then allowed us to pay $10 instead as an extra vehicle charge (we parked the truck and our van in the storage area). The staff were friendly as usual and the premises very clean and quiet. The only issue we had was that we found out after we set up that we were in a 30 amp site instead of a 50 amp. Make sure you ask when you make your reservation, because on hot days 50 amp is definitely needed so both air conditioners can be used. We camped at Meteor Crater RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Oasis RV Resort, Amarillo, Texas

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $34.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here one night while traveling through. Very friendly office staff and quick service. The grounds were clean and well-kept. Our site was long and level and there was room for our camper, tow vehicle, mini-van, and a moving truck. There was a patio but no picnic table. The bathhouses had large individual rooms with a toilet and a shower, and were very clean. The roads were wide and easy to navigate. We would definitely stay here again. We camped here in a 42 ft. fifth wheel. We camped at Oasis RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Raleigh Oaks RV Resort, Four Oaks, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We spent one night at this park while driving through the area. It was extremely clean and the grounds were well-kept. The individual bathroom/shower rooms were some of the cleanest we have ever encountered. The waffle breakfast was nice. Our site was just long enough for our camper and tow vehicle, so we had to park our car in an overflow area a few rows away. The site was not level from front to back, so we had to unhook to level the camper. The roads were wide and easy to navigate. We camped at Raleigh Oaks RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

We went to White Swan BBQ nearby and picked up a family pack for $20. For that price we got eight pieces of fried chicken, BBQ meat, hushpuppies, green beans, and cole slaw. There were four of us and we could have easily fed two more people with what they gave us. It was delicious food and an excellent value.

Cape Hatteras KOA, Rodanthe, North Carolina

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $120.00
Overall Rating:

The location of this campground is its biggest asset. We enjoyed the beach and the local restaurants. However, it is way overpriced for what is offered. We had one of the deluxe pull-thru sites and in the photo online and description they mentioned patio furniture. When we arrived however, patio furniture was only on a few sites. I am sure there is small print somewhere saying it is not guaranteed, but it is very misleading to put it in the photo and description that you click on to select that site. We went to rent bikes and found there were none available. A staff member told us to check with the campground next door, which we did, but they only rent bikes to their own guests. There was nowhere to park near the beach access, so if you have difficulty walking long distances or a handicap, you need to have someone drive down and drop you off. Our site was large, level, and long enough for our camper, our tow vehicle, and our car. Other sites closer to the beach were very cramped and close together, and the roads were narrow. We camped at Cape Hatteras KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground, Yuma, Tennessee

Date of Stay: July, 2016 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

The check-in process was smooth and the staff friendly. Our site was more than long enough for our fifth wheel and we were able to remain hooked up to the tow vehicle. A staff member recommended a local restaurant that had a great country-style buffet. The grounds were clean and neat. The bathrooms, however, were less than desirable. There were spider webs (with resident spiders) in the bathroom stalls, and the shower stalls/floors were dirty. We arrived late afternoon, so it may have just been a bad day. If we were self-contained and could have used our own bathroom, then we would have rated this pace much higher. We camped at Parkers Crossroads RV Park and Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Asheville West KOA, Candler, North Carolina

Date of Stay: May, 2016 - $40.00
Overall Rating:

This KOA was a little on the expensive side for what was offered. Our assigned site was not long enough and we had to be moved to an alternate site where we just barely fit. When our slides were extended we had tree branches brushing up against our camper. The site was also not level. The bathrooms were very clean and there was an attendant there when we went to take showers. The road we had to take out was narrow and cluttered with vehicles parked on both sides, and it was hard to maneuver around them. We camped here in a 42 foot fifth wheel. Albuquerque North / Bernalillo KOA, Bernalillo, New Mexico

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for four days during the balloon fiesta. The park was exceptionally clean and well-taken care of. Our site was fairly long but very sloped in the back, and so we had to pull all the way forward and park our tow vehicle elsewhere. We loved the tree and the artificial turf right outside the door, and the kids loved the playground and the abundance of outdoor seating. The bathhouse was very clean. The only complaint we had is that the laundry closes at dusk, which is pretty much when we arrived back home each day, and we got a 30 amp site when we requested a 50 amp. (Our reservation said 50/30, but evidently you get whichever one is available. It was not extremely hot while we were there, so it was not a big issue for us, but could be a pain for those in larger rigs during the summer). The cafe on site served a delicious breakfast, and the brewery next door was a neat place. We camped here in a 42 ft. fifth wheel, and would definitely stay here again. Meteor Crater RV Park, Winslow, Arizona

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $33.00
Overall Rating:

Long, level site with plenty of room to stay hooked up to the tow vehicle and room for our additional car. Roads within the park are very wide and easy to get around on. The grounds were very well cared for and clean, with the exception of the bathhouse - we used the one nearest the office while we were there, and one shower did not drain at all and there were quite a few bugs and spiders. (We went around 9 pm and that could perhaps have been the reason.) The park is not really close to anything, but there is a store/gas station on site with a pretty good selection of items. We camped here in a 42-ft fifth wheel. We camped at Meteor Crater RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Denver East / Strasburg KOA, Strasburg, Colorado

Date of Stay: October, 2015 - $44.00
Overall Rating:

We stayed here for two nights. Although the park is listed as "big-rig access", we found the roads in our section to be narrow and we had to move some landscaping rocks out of the way to make the turn out of our site. If the site in front of us had been occupied, it would have been very difficult to get out at all. The sites were also very close together. The playground and game room were nice for the kids, and the staff was very friendly. Bathrooms were clean. The electric and cable hookup was at the very rear of the site (our 25 ft. cable cord was too short to reach the connection, so it was quite a ways back). We camped here in a fifth wheel. Goodland KOA, Goodland, Kansas

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $35.00
Overall Rating:

We stopped here for one night on our way across Kansas. The staff were very friendly and led us to our site. We had plenty of room to keep the truck and rig hooked up and park our extra vehicle in front. The bathrooms and showers were some of the cleanest I have ever encountered. The playground was nice, and the landscaping around the office was nicer than most. We camped here in a fifth wheel. We camped at Goodland KOA in a Fifth Wheel.

We stopped over for one night here in September. There is easy access to the park and plenty of room for larger rigs to maneuver. Sunset Lakes RV Resort, Hillsdale, Illinois

Date of Stay: September, 2015 - $50.00
Overall Rating:

This gated park was very clean and was easy to maneuver around with a large rig. The office staff was super friendly, as were the people who worked on the grounds. We stayed here for several weeks during August and September, and chose this particular place because of all the amenities and activities it listed online. We arrived on a weekend and there was a ton going on and we thought it was perfect. But then on Monday we found out that everything is closed during the week. The snack bar and store opened on Friday night and closed on Sunday afternoon, and the hours on those days were quite limited. From Sunday afternoon to Friday afternoon it was like a ghost town, which is something the kids and I did not enjoy. There are many, many insects, especially mosquitos and flies, which made it almost impossible to sit or play outside after 5 pm. And if you need anything, it is a thirty minute ride to the nearest grocery store. If you have kids, this is a great place for a weekend stay, but not an extended one. We camped here in a fifth wheel. We camped at Sunset Lakes RV Resort in a Fifth Wheel.

Yosemite Pines RV Resort & Family Lodging, Groveland, California

Date of Stay: August, 2015 - $45.00
Overall Rating:

The drive up was a little scary, but not as bad as we expected after reading some of the reviews. It was easy to enter and exit the campground, and our site was long and mostly level. The kids loved the nature trail, petting zoo, and play area. We had almost no cell reception (Verizon). This was our basecamp for visiting Yosemite, and the drive to and from the park each day was not bad. The staff was friendly, and the laundry room was very small, but clean. We would stay here again.
