Bath houses were closed. Lots of messy looking seasonals in the front of the campground. Roadways were narrow. You can drive though but it is difficult to pull out of the pull through due to the decks that the seasonals put in. Ground is grass and sandy dirt. Not a bad location but it is just a place to stay to go to the National Refuge not a destination park. I find it hard to believe people would seek to have a seasonal site. Also drove through Toms Cove and it is similar though the sites were shorter. We camped here in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice park. They do not take credit cards. It is very close to the wildlife refuge. We camped here in a Motorhome.

My wife and I have visited this park for the past four years. The staff is friendly, and unobtrusive. We find the park a good place for a late summer getaway. The spacious sites were clean with picnic tables, fire rings and convenient full hookups. At night the rotating beam of light from the nearby Assasteague Island Lighthouse is something to see. We typically visit during the week before Labor Day and find the park very quiet since most folks with children are either back home with the kids in their first week of school or preparing for the start of school. Chincoteague remains a quaint town and the park provides a good base from which to visit the local shops, rent a small boat and fish the many tidal creeks and sounds or to spend time across the channel at Assateague National Seashore. Mosquitos are a challenge but this should be expected since you are on a barrier island surrounded by massive amounts of tidal marshes. The rest rooms are old but the staff makes a consistent effort to keep them clean. The park is on a prime site for condominium development so each year we hear rumors of an impending change. We will continue to return as long as the park is there. We camped here in a Fifth Wheel.

We have stayed at Pine Grove many, many times. Heavily treed although the sites are not secluded, but they are large. Lots of animals and lots of quiet in the off-season. I hate to see them close for the 'winter'. Just in the process of opening a large new tent area. We camped here in a Truck Camper.

This park is located on Chincoteague Island. We have stayed here twice and just love the place. It is very quiet and shady. The owner has created a private waterfowl and animal reserve which includes all kinds of ducks, swans, peacocks, ostriches (or something similar), ponies, llamas, and deer. There are two small ponds for the ducks and you can buy feed in the store. The ponds are full of barrumphhing bullfrogs which really get going at night, much to our amusement. The restrooms/showers are pretty basic but clean. If I owned the place I would paint the showers and improve the lighting; with all the shade they are somewhat dingy. They have a great well-maintained pool and of course Assateague Island beaches are just a short drive away. There are laundry facilities also. The owner is always out working in the park, so it is actively maintained. I gave this an "8" because I think the restrooms could use some work, but it is likely that the owner just hasn't gotten to them yet. We didn't use them as we had a sewer site and used the facilities in our trailer. Bring plenty of mosquito spray; the owner has the campground sprayed daily during the summer months, but this IS Chincoteague, where the 'skeeters will eat you alive if you're not prepared. We camped here in a Travel Trailer.

It's odd that this park does not have an online reservation system. You either have to go there, or send a check, and even then it is not guaranteed that you get the site you really want. Our luck was good, though, and we camped by the water. The campground is clean, but the pool had unidentified debris floating in it. I wasn't too happy with that being used to our sparkling clean pool at home. Camping (and kayaking/bike riding) is great on the island/ waterways/ campground! We camped here in a Motorhome.

This was our second year in a row in a waterfront site at Tom's Cove Park. For the second year in a row, we had a ball. The sunrise views over Assateague Island just don't get any better. The only thing really keeping me from giving this park a 10 is the lack of internet access. Not that I really missed the e-hubbub but it would be nice to have over an extended stay. Otherwise the park and the folks that run it are perfect. We camped here in a Motorhome.

We stayed here and the view was awesome. We stayed right on the water. The staff was very friendly. We arrived early, about 9AM and they said we could park in an overflow area until a site was available. We did not have reservations and we still were able to get in. BTW, bring cash, they do not take credit cards for the campsites. PS: The pony swim is the busiest time of the year here. I would suspect that the above poster's description is accurate. However, it is the same at many campgrounds during their busy holidays (July 4, Memorial Day, Labor Day). We camped here in a Motorhome.
