We stayed here for an overnight while traveling. The campground is beautiful!!!! As mentioned in other reviews, the sites we were in and near are small. Our site was great as we were on the water. I was surprised they put us on the water seeing as we were just staying for one night. They seem to have a great activities program for the kids, with a weekly schedule of daily activities. We are now considering returning for a full week in the future. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

My husband stayed here several years ago on an overnight stay and has been raving about the campground ever since. We needed a time to rest, and he thought this campground would suit. He was right. We stayed in the "premium" section with a lovely site right on the lake. We had a fairly secluded fire pit and spent a lot of our time enjoying the lake views and watching our dogs swim. We also could kayak right from our campsite. Our site was nice and level with a concrete pad, full hook ups and a well kept restroom. While we enjoyed resting, there are many other activities to do here including fishing and boating. Some of the sites had a dock right at the campsite to keep your boat secure overnight. In the premium sites, you must reserve a full week in the summer season, but we did not mind doing that as it was such a nice place, we could have stayed forever! We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

It is a nice park, large in size but in need of some serious maintenance upgrades. The park roads are narrow, the sites are close together and the pads are need of some repairs, there are roots coming up on some of them and the picnic tables are terrible.. There is good 4G Verizon but due to all the trees, satellite TV was basically a no go. The numbers for the sites are suppose to be on the road but are so faded they are hard to read. There is laundry but it's minimal-4 washers/2dryers but only $1.00. This is a summer destination for local people. Lake Martin is a huge lake with all matter of water sports on it. This park must be jamming in "the season" but while we were here, early March for 2 weeks, it was very quiet and isolated. We had a nice view of one of the coves and enjoyed watching the geese and other water birds. Big complaints about this park. One is their reservation policy. Mar-Oct you can only reserve for minimum 7 days on line. If you want a site for the weekend or a few days, you have to take your chances on drive up. But the kicker is that the web site reservation let us reserve for 17 days so imagine our surprise when we were told on arrival that we could have our site for 14 days but then have to move for the next 3 days/2 nights! Sorry if we need to move-we will really move-out. Two is their security gate: You need to put a code in 2 gates to get into the camping area. But the key pads are extremely hard to reach from your truck or car, especially when you are hauling a trailer. 2 weeks here was about a week too long. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This campground is huge and it is very family friendly. There are kids everywhere! We didn't have a reservation and we were able to get the last available spot on the lake in the newer section on a Saturday afternoon. There are many sections - some are waterfront with water and electric and others are full hookups on inner loops or on the waterfront. The newest section has 50/30 and nice big wide and level pads. The older sections have concrete pads but they are just wide enough for your camper and many don't look level. There are many bathhouses. The laundry room was clean and $1 per wash and $1 to dry. The only downside is the Wifi. It looks like they spent a lot of money setting up antennas and repeaters but if you can even connect (and that is rare) the download speeds are slower than 1mbps. We work on the road so this was disappointing. Luckily we had good Verizon and ATT service and tethered to work on our laptops. I do think the reservation system needs updated or reworked. We were told we got the last spot but 70% of the sites around us were empty while we were there. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: September, 2018 - $28.00
Overall Rating:

We have camped at Wind Creek for 20+ years. Have always enjoyed it because it gives us access to the lake and is close to home. Some things to be aware of are that starting in 2018, from March 1 to October 31 ALL waterfront sites have to be reserved for 7 days. You can still walk up and you *might* be able to rent a waterfront site for fewer than 7 days, if one is available. Keep in mind that most of them do NOT have sewer connections, so you will need to bring a portable dump tank or plan to disconnect and dump if staying a while. Something else to be aware of if you are bringing water toys is that a lot of the waterfront sites now have huge boulders in the water to create a sort of sea wall (prevent erosion), so you might have a water VIEW, but no water ACCESS (even though you pay extra). The older sites need a lot of work - badly. When these were created, most RVs didn't have slides so you will need to be careful with placement of your RV. A lot have tree roots pushing the pavement up. The roads are one way and very narrow on the loops, which makes the sites even harder to back into, especially if it's crowded or a lot of people parked right next to the road (which is common). But all in all it is a nice park, it just needs to be updated. There are no other campgrounds nearby, so it's pretty much take it or leave it in this area. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Wind Creek has partnered with a company and installed a zip line attraction. Should be noted that it is very expensive and most of the runs are very short. So about 11-15 little hops between trees. But on the plus side, not many people are using it, so there is no waiting!

Overall Rating:

We had a delightful four night stay at this very large campground (over 500 sites) in April 2018. Our site did require leveling on blocks but was long enough for our 27 foot trailer and tow vehicle. Sites appear to be undergoing renovation and some of the renovated sites on the water had concrete surfaces. Ours was asphalt in reasonably good shape. The lake is beautiful. There were few campers during the week but the park filled up on the weekend. We had no problems with noise even on the weekend. This is a good park for overnight or stays of a week or more. Waterfront sites require a 7 day stay. Two night minimum stay for weekends on all sites and 3 night minimum for holiday weekends. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a huge park , a little off the beaten path but beautiful. We stayed in the new luxury section that has 55 spots, all 50 amps, concrete pads, sewer and right on the water. Sites are large with plenty of room to maneuver our 45 ft. with towed. The only problem we ran into was if you make reservations for one of these sites in advance you must stay 7 nights, if you just walk-in you can stay for only 1-2 nights if you like. This is a very popular weekend park during the season so it stays busy and can be a little noisy with boats and children at times. There are horse trails , fishing, lake swimming and boat launch facilities and it is excellently maintained with gated entrance and plenty of security. The closest restaurants are in Alexander City which is about 5 miles as is the closest Walmart. There is a Dollar General store about a mile from the park which is great for cokes, snacks, ice, etc. Will definitely stay again. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a huge park is a beautiful location. It is well kept and has plenty of scenic hiking, walking, biking opportunities. I would imagine in the summer months, the lake is hoppin' with boats and skiers, and jet skis and all manner of lake recreation. We were there in early spring, running the heat in the mornings, taking walks, and doing a little fishing from the piers. Our site, and most of the sites we observed, was very narrow, so much so that we couldn't stretch out our rug in front of our door. It was adequate, though. Most sites had either a fire ring or a pedestal BBQ grill. We spotted just a handful of sites that had both. The waterfront sites were the most desirable, but our camp information sheet said that those are reserved for campers staying at least a week. The negative here, to me, is the lack of privacy or view. Although it's all on the lake, most of the sites are going to be looking at other RVs instead of the water. If a view is important to you, you're probably going to have to get one of the premium sites on the water at a much higher price. The park overall was not crowded at all when we visited in early March, but we happened to be in a section that had quite a few RVs. The water view was on the backside of our RV, with other RVs just outside our front door. I can imagine during the busy summer months it would be similar. You'll be happiest here if you use your RV for the necessities of life and are away from your site doing fun things most of the time, especially boating and such. You're probably not going to want to lounge under your awning to enjoy the view of the back of your neighbor's RV. There are multiple places to enjoy beautiful views, though. It just takes a little walking or riding to see them. That being said, everything else about the park is GREAT. Just don't go in expecting wonderful views or privacy from every site, and you'll be fine. We plan to go back with our horse and try some of the horse trails. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Camp store is surprisingly well stocked and cheap. They had Walmart prices on almost everything they sold. Their prices were actually better than the Dollar General right up the road outside the park. Staff were friendly and helpful.

We had a great time! There was a group of 6 sites that we got during this trip. We were all in the same Premium site section. The sites are spacious. The restrooms were clean. The staff was very helpful, we set up a scavenger hunt for our group and they were very kind to work with us on it. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

We have been here several times visiting relatives. It is an enormous state park on Lake Martin with over 500 sites. Many sites have 30 amp FHU. A few sites have 50 amp FHU. Rates are discounted after Nov 1. Weekly and monthly rates are available. Easy access from US 280. Easy check-in. Reservations are available, but not necessary in November. Well laid out campground. The sites are asphalt. Utilities worked as expected. Interior roads are asphalt. Propane is available on site. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Very nice park located in Alexander City, AL directly on Lake Martin. Pricey to stay here but for a night at $63 I'll take it as the view at sunset will be stunning. Nice concrete pad with fire ring and stand up charcoal grill. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

This was a pretty nice park but I found the sites too close together and some didn't have much usable area besides the trailer pad. Ours didn't even have a fire ring. We were there for some fall festival with kids trick or treating so it was very busy but suprisingly quiet at night. I'd go back if I could get site B34 or one in the E loop. Could be the prettiest state park we have ever stayed in. Check in was easy and help was very friendly, lots of sites here so we unhooked and found site before taking the bus into the park. We had site B27 backed right up to the water, lots of room too. We launched our kayaks right behind the site. They also have a well stocked store with boat rentals too. No WiFi or cable in our basic site but with all there is to do you wont miss it. Park is patrolled and secure and they don't hassle you about the little things, like parking on the grass. Lots of stuff for the kids too!!! We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Motorhome.

Very large state park. Our site backed up right on the water which gave us a great view of Lake Martin. Good cable TV and decent wireless internet service. As others have stated, a little pricey for a state park but I can see that the staff has a lot of area to maintain with probably very little state funding. They do a great job. We'll definitely be back. Thanks. We camped at Wind Creek State Park in a Travel Trailer.
