Jun 2018 - $38.00
Took 3 days to contact someone about reservations. They don't normally have pull through to accommodate a 60 ft total, motorhome + toad, but the manager found a site, 34, that worked for us. Seemed to be mostly campers for workers in the area, their sites were neat. No amenities except for a dog area. - dlfishing
Oct 2016 - $30.00
During football season this park has two sections: one for seasonal tailgaters (you won't get into it if you don't lease it for the season), and one for everyone else. Both are gravel, no trees, no tables. Most of non-tailgater section (where we were) is occupied by people working temporarily in Tuscaloosa and other long-termers. While the tailgater section is angled pull-throughs with more space between units, the other section is tightly packed un-angled pull-throughs with little maneuvering room. The pedestals are shared between spaces, thus you are back-to-back and front-to-front with your neighbours. If you don't like interstate noise this park is good, as it is sufficiently away from I-20. If you don't like train noise, you are out of luck here. There is a very busy track so close you think they're coming through the park. Don't expect any aesthetic satisfaction. The place is hot, dusty and without any pleasant views whatsoever. There are no discounts during football season, even when the team is playing away, and even in the non-tail-gater section. Also there is a $5 "service" charge. On the positive side, the manager was nice, the utilities worked well, and all the RVs and vehicles in the place were clean and modern. No junk. None-the-less, I believe I will select another location on my next visit to Tuscaloosa. - Tidy Boy

This is a great overnight park or for couple days. No frills Has side by side hookups with concrete in between sites for all hookups. Very clean. Also has concrete patio and gravel level sites. We feel we scored. All spots are pull thru. We didn’t have to unhook our tow car. - Cynlruss
Sep 2018 - $32.00
This was just an overnight. Wouldn't do much more. Gravel parking lot with some grass in between sites that needed to be cut. FHU Cable was very fuzzy, hard to watch and WiFi was very poor. - milodog
Jun 2018 - $32.00
This was OK for a quick overnight but would not necessarily suggest for more than that. My husband went into the restroom to take a shower and there was a drunk man passed out against the door. - Cathy Roark

We decided at the last minute to go to an Alabama football game. As expected, RV sites were impossible to find. Called Sunset RV park and they said they had space at this park, their overflow park. As previous reviews state, it is a gravel parking lot with hook ups. For our purposes, it was fine. In fact, it is only 4 miles down the road to the stadium. It was surprisingly quiet at night. - Traveling Golfer
Oct 2013 - $29.00
We were surprised that our 1st choice for a nightly stop was filled. So we grabbed our old campground directory and picked the next available park to the west. The only good news was that their regular park, (Sunset Travel Park) which adjoins, but sits below I-40 was filled. We were directed to the overflow park Avalon RV Park. It is just a gravel parking lot with working W/S/E. No obvious trash receptacles, so I walked our bag to the nearby sister campground which had a trash bin. The nearby train added to the low rating. We'll add this to our any port in the storm list. - BobatRetama
May 2010 - $14.00
Bare bones: new gravel parking lot with utility posts. Lots of long term residents/workers. Adequate for an over night, but close enough to a city to have the noises, sirens, motorcycles, etc. No interstate noise, but there's a late night car wash and light industrial. Don't go on the week-end. The bar across the street faces the park and notorious for noise, etc. So says the manager. Passport America rates. You have to stop into Sunset RV park (practically underneath I-20) to pay and get a map. - mrfixer

Great volunteer staff. Sites and grounds well maintained. - Nomads_2
Jun 2018 - $26.00
As usual, a great COE campground. Flat, level, large concrete site pads, with a nice separate picnic/grill area. Our site was 25 yards or so from our neighbors. Our site and the campground was spotless and well maintained. We only stayed here one night but would have enjoyed staying longer. - docsouce
Apr 2018 - $12.00
This is a wonderful park, and the sites are great. We were paced in site w22, which was a bit of a hassle to get into with our 39 foot 5th wheel, but doable. Sites 14,17, and 20 were taken, but would have been much easier to get into. Very quiet with beautiful views. Although it is a bit off the highway, it is well worth the trip to get there. we would definitely stay there again, and would lengthen our stay. - northern ranger

***Out of business*** This campground sold out to Loves Truck Stop and is no longer in business. Loves has demolished the campground and is in the process of turning it into a parking lot for 18 wheelers. - Luv2rvbig
Oct 2013 - $33.00
Okay overnight stop for us, though it's a little past its prime. Friendly, helpful owner. Wi-Fi works well (after resetting router), good cable TV. Gravel roads in fairly good repair and our gravel site was "levelable" with a bit of lumber. Some have park model utility set-ups, but ours was standard RV style. Shaded, but pretty noisy. Kind of hard to find. It's behind the Love's truck stop. Apparently, the State has plans for the right-of-way, so the sign is pretty much invisible. Call park for directions. Wouldn't make a point of going back, but okay for a night. - Sonic
Jun 2010 - $27.00
Very friendly host. That was the best park of this park. Many rundown permenent sites. We had a long pull through so we did not need to unhook, and we are about 55 feet long. It is tight getting through the park. It's about 1/4 mile off interstate, so a good overnight stop. There is a nice small pool. Cable TV was good. Way overpriced, even with the Good Sam discount. If this were a half price campground, we might consider staying here again, just for an overnight. They are building a Loves truck stop that backs right up to the park. This could add to the already loud noise from the interstate. - BLT101

Nov 2018 - $21.00
This park does not take reservations. It's first come first serve. We were given the option to drive around and pick our site. Sites are very close together. Our fee was $21.25 for water and electric. While driving through the park we noticed dump station was across the creek in Camping Loop 3. It was so disgusting we did decide not to dump when we left the next morning. The scenery is pretty and the fall colors were beautiful. We did not get to see the museum as it was already closed. The campsites could use some TLC. The park map we were given at check in was pretty useless. - MelindaK

Jul 2018 - $25.00
This is a very nice State Park with a lot to do. The amenity listing for the park shows they are NOT big rig friendly, but I saw several 43' motorhomes and 42' 5th-Wheels in Campground 1. Campground 1 has all full hookup sites, and is the tightest to maneuver your "Big Rig" RV in, but it can be done. Campground 2 (just across the creek from Campground 1) is 30amp water and electric only, but can easily accommodate "Big Rigs" in several sites. Campground 3 is an enigma! It is large spread out, and could easily handle Big Rigs, but the only way to get there is over a load limit bridge with a MH limit of 16,000 lbs. If they would increase the bridge capacity, this park could easily be "Big Rig Friendly." BTW. . . Campground 3 is 30/50amp, water and electric only. - vtwinwilly

May 2018 - $14.00
There are two distinct areas of this campground - the "river front", and the "creek side". The river front sites are right on the Black Warrior River approximately a mile downstream from Lock 17 dam. These sites are all back-in, or head-in, and most have a deck extending out toward the river. Fishing is possible, but not practical at these sites because of the shallow water and logs near the shore. However, it's a great place to launch a kayak or pull up a bass boat. The other area of the campground is up a hollow perpendicular to the river, with most campsites situated around a creek which runs down through the hollow. This area is old growth forest with a very heavy tree canopy. Sites for both areas are flat and level with concrete pads. The lengths given on the Recreation.gov website are accurate for the entire length. We stayed on site 4 on the river front. This site is situated for back-in with the awning side toward the river, but there is a retaining wall that limits the width of the site between the wall and a deck post. We were able to park a triple slide fifth wheel in the space, but could not walk between the body of the trailer and the deck post - use caution if selecting this site. Sites 3 and 7 are situated for a unit which can be pulled straight in, such as a class A or C (and still have the awning side toward the river). There are a mix of back-in and pull-thru sites in the "creek side" area. There is NO CELL PHONE coverage in the campground! OTA reception is limited to just the river sites. Satellite reception is very limited in the creek side sites because of the heavy tree canopy. Bathrooms are very clean and the showers have real mix valves - no push buttons. There is only one full bath house for the campground (37 sites). Two playgrounds, a beach with shower house, several fishing piers and a good dump station. Water pressure was very good, lighting at night was limited to the bath houses and bridges. - Bama Camper
Feb 2017 - $26.00
We have stayed here quite a few times. We love it. Quite and relaxing. Water front sites are really nice. 2, 3 and 7 are backwards so your camper faces woods instead of water. That's my only complaint. 8, 6, 5, 4, 1 are very nice level pads. Park is beautiful. FYI, if you want cell service or TV, have satellite or WiFi. That for me is great, no phones really helps you to unwind. Park is well kept. Too many logs in water in front of camp sites but not something that will keep me away. The place is beautiful. - Burchfield branch park
Sep 2016 - $26.00
We stayed in a back in site, right next to the water. We were able to put our kayaks in right in front of our site. The pad was level. The only "issue" was because of the wood railing we could not use our grill on the back of the camper. It is on a swing arm, and the rail was too close. No problem for use, we used the fire pit and cooked inside. There is a charcoal grill located at the site. We didn't use it. Nice deck and picnic table. Nice swimming area, nice playground, and boat ramp available. - Dayball

Jan 2018 - $28.00
No reservations taken here. They say it stays mostly open but some weekend events can fill it up. Call ahead. They will tell you to go pick a spot and call it in. Pay close attention to the camp map. The sites with full hookups are 50 amp only. I didnt pay attention after completely setting up and making that discovery. Leveling necessary on nearly every site up to as much as 3 and 4 inches. Lost of shade and openness. You have to pay for a day (1 day) pass even with the camp fee. You have complete freedom of the archeological park all night even after closing to the public if you want to commune with the ancient spirits. The museum is excellent. - Tidy Boy
Jun 2017 - $33.00
Angle will check you in and give you lots of information - great personally and very good with people. The final fee includes and campsite rate plus the park admission fee for each person. Campground is old and is scheduled for a make-over. Hook ups are mostly on the wrong side for RVs. The bath/shower building is clean and everything works. Specific sites are difficult to locate so we just parked on the grass near our hook ups. Some pull-thrus, some sites with sewer, the community dump is worthless and impossible to use. We dumped in an unoccupied site that had a sewer hookup. - Livermorered
Feb 2016 - $12.00
Stayed here for a week while visiting in area. Kind of a primitive area but for the price you cannot complain. People were very helpful with park information as well as area information. Only problem was the front gate lock if you came in after park closed. It was a combination lock and extremely hard to open. Other than gate lock loved this place. Coming in at night I have never seen the number of deer as this place has at night. Will stay here again. - Alapawpaw

we stayed in 45. it was unleveled but no big deal . the park was very nice and clean. it has a lot of things to do on the water. a lot of trees and a good fire ring. the only complaint I have is there was no Verizon or att service where we were. there maybe other places in the campground that has service. I would recommend staying there. - 1coolhall
Jul 2018 - $30.00
Our first trip in the travel trailer. We stayed this past weekend with 3 kids. They said we should come back and that's usually a good sign. We had site 24, across from bath/shower facilities. This came in handy so the kids were not in and out of the trailer. Had full hook ups. It has a beach area with roped of swimming. Paddle boats, boat ramp, playground. No cell service with Verizon but not a problem as it was good to disconnect everyone and have family time. The park ranger drove around several times and also let us know of a storm coming it as to be aware. There was a deck on our site with a nice big table, which I liked because we had space to set our chairs. Plenty of Shade through out park. - Threegrits
Jun 2018 - $32.00
This park has so much potential its such a shame to see it seemingly so neglected by Alabama State Parks. It's being slowly updated (adding 50A and sewer to sites); but many of the sites are tiny and extremely un-level. Our site was paved and barely wider than the camper - stepping out the front door and you were stepping into the park road. The level left to right was off by a full 6". Driving around I saw several sites that were on such a steep hill a 5th wheel camper had the nose almost on the ground and the wheels a good 8-10" on blocks to get level. Check in and reservations are confusing. You have to pay to reserve a spot, but you are only guaranteed a spot, not a particular site. So even with a reservation and arriving mid-week; if someone else decided to extend their stay or just showed up with no reservation 5 min before you they can get the prime spot and you're stuck with the leftovers. Check in after hours was confusing as the after-hours info is on the back side of the booth and not visible as you enter. The only instruction plaque has a number to call for after hours assistance, but there is almost zero cell reception around the park. With proximity to Tuscaloosa for University of Alabama games, great beach and mountain biking trails, this park has a lot of potential. It's too bad to see it fall so short. - joshjack
