This is a huge wide open field of concrete slabs with a half dozen rusting and sagging ancient mobile homes scattered hither and yon. The park is located in a declining area and approached via a short road past a fenced car lot patrolled by two rottweilers. That would be clue number one. We stayed only long enough to identify an alternate RV park, I did not feel safe nor did I feel safe leaving my RV there. - Ric R
Jan 2011 - $20.00
We read the last review and decided to give it a try. Unfortunately, this place is more like the March 2009 review. This is more of a full time trailer park than an RV park. It is very close to the road, has no office or facilities and is in a more run down part of town. If you don't want to stay at Wal-Mart and need an overnight stop with water and sewer, then I would cautiously recommend this place. Our water did not work. - Sherylyn
Jan 2011 - $20.00
We were reluctant to try this park because of the previous review. We are glad we came here anyway. Owner is friendly and apparently has been working VERY hard. Looks like all the spaces have new large concrete pads. Electric connections look new. Sites are large and level.Big-rig w/towing access. Plenty of room. Clean w/no garbage and no homeless and no bums. (we have seen parks like that). The $20 rate is full-hookups w/no discount. Looks like owner has worked hard to clean everything up. We would camp here again. Did not see a sign for park on main road so be careful not to miss it. - petersoldan

Google calls it Hoover Met Complex. The stadium has an RV Park used by tailgaters on game weekends. Good place for an overnight stay when it's not game day! It's a big parking lot with full hookups. Lots of pull through sites. We just turned off the truck, put out the slides, hooked up, and heated up dinner. Easy peasey. - GordonsvilleGal
Oct 2018 - $35.00
Good park for an overnight stay. It is a parking lot with utilities and some trees. Very quiet as it is away from any highways, airports and trains. WiFi was great. - Beggco
Oct 2018 - $35.00
This is just a big parking lot for the Hoover Metro sports complex. It has full hookups with 50 amp. The sites are 45' long and 18' wide, just barely long enough to get our 34 ft fifth wheel in and park the truck sideways. The hookups are on raised concrete islands and are shared. The height of the sewer hookup just barely provided enough drop to be usable for our 5th wheel. Overall, it was a good place to stay. Hoover Metro is a huge sports complex with a large event center, baseball fields, soccer fields and a football stadium. There was a big gun show going on in the event center the weekend that we were there. The reservations are all done online. The website can be a little confusing, but you can pick a specific site. Just click on "Show Available Dates for a Specific Site" toggle. The symbol will turn yellow and allow you to click on a specific site on the map and view the availability calendar. - wntrtxn

After and terrifying drive off the Interstate, we arrived after dark. I walked up to the office and was encouraged to pay cash. We were led to our unlevel, graveled site. The sewer inlet was above our waste discharge outlet so we did not hook up our gravity drain waste line. After a long walk to the "bathhouse", we were very disappointed in the condition: a broken seat on men's toilet, one women's stall, no toilet paper, and generally pitiful conditions. The park appeared to have mainly long-term residents. - Devil Anse
Nov 2017 - $15.00
Owners were very friendly and seemed to work hard to keep the park clean. This park does seem more like a trailer court with mostly permanent renters. - deechurch
Feb 2017 - $15.00
Tired old campground, badly in need of a sprucing up. However, the setting is lovely, with mature trees throughout the campground and a pretty lake adjacent. Using an address of 11 Austin Road, Helena AL worked better than the County Road 93 address in my GPS. Unless you like backing up, don't drive up to the office. There is no turnaround. Park on Austin Road. - Gord0

***Out of business*** This campground sold out to Loves Truck Stop and is no longer in business. Loves has demolished the campground and is in the process of turning it into a parking lot for 18 wheelers. - Luv2rvbig
Oct 2013 - $33.00
Okay overnight stop for us, though it's a little past its prime. Friendly, helpful owner. Wi-Fi works well (after resetting router), good cable TV. Gravel roads in fairly good repair and our gravel site was "levelable" with a bit of lumber. Some have park model utility set-ups, but ours was standard RV style. Shaded, but pretty noisy. Kind of hard to find. It's behind the Love's truck stop. Apparently, the State has plans for the right-of-way, so the sign is pretty much invisible. Call park for directions. Wouldn't make a point of going back, but okay for a night. - Sonic
Jun 2010 - $27.00
Very friendly host. That was the best park of this park. Many rundown permenent sites. We had a long pull through so we did not need to unhook, and we are about 55 feet long. It is tight getting through the park. It's about 1/4 mile off interstate, so a good overnight stop. There is a nice small pool. Cable TV was good. Way overpriced, even with the Good Sam discount. If this were a half price campground, we might consider staying here again, just for an overnight. They are building a Loves truck stop that backs right up to the park. This could add to the already loud noise from the interstate. - BLT101

The most difficult part is getting To the park down small country roads. Once there you'll find a fine little city park with recreation areas, ball fields, creek with fish and a rope swing and enough bike trails to make anyone happy. Camp 'sites' are not really designated but rather areas in the wooded area behind the ball fields to pull into, in what ever manner you wish to reach the hookups and miss the trees. If you call for a 'reservation' you will probably talk to the city mayor - who runs the canoe company at the front of this city park. WiFi was Excellent, I never did find the laundry, there are no 'facilities' (I'd rather use my own bathroom anyway) and grocery and fuel are a 10-15 minute drive to the new Walmart. TV reception was good but I had no t-mobile or AT&T phone service. We stayed more than one night and were able to 'negotiate' a rate of 5/$80. I really liked the park setting of this campground even if getting here was a challenge. Small country roads would Not be feasible for a really big rig, but Most motorhomes and trailers will like it once they get here and be in a good location for visiting the Birmingham area. - SailorGolf

This park does not take reservations. It's first come first serve. We were given the option to drive around and pick our site. Sites are very close together. Our fee was $21.25 for water and electric. While driving through the park we noticed dump station was across the creek in Camping Loop 3. It was so disgusting we did decide not to dump when we left the next morning. The scenery is pretty and the fall colors were beautiful. We did not get to see the museum as it was already closed. The campsites could use some TLC. The park map we were given at check in was pretty useless. - MelindaK

Been before, but stopped for overnight stay. Park was nearly full, it was a Trade Days weekend. - AFA430
Jul 2018 - $25.00
This is a very nice State Park with a lot to do. The amenity listing for the park shows they are NOT big rig friendly, but I saw several 43' motorhomes and 42' 5th-Wheels in Campground 1. Campground 1 has all full hookup sites, and is the tightest to maneuver your "Big Rig" RV in, but it can be done. Campground 2 (just across the creek from Campground 1) is 30amp water and electric only, but can easily accommodate "Big Rigs" in several sites. Campground 3 is an enigma! It is large spread out, and could easily handle Big Rigs, but the only way to get there is over a load limit bridge with a MH limit of 16,000 lbs. If they would increase the bridge capacity, this park could easily be "Big Rig Friendly." BTW. . . Campground 3 is 30/50amp, water and electric only. - vtwinwilly

This is an oddly laid out park, probably because it is so hilly. The restrooms and laundry are old and rusty. - mountainfan
Feb 2017 - $27.00
We stayed for the first time at Oak Mountain and were not impressed with our site nor the blaring of radios being played outside as we were trying to relax by the campfire. We stayed at site A5 and were on the road. Literally! I would not recommend this site for anyone with small children. This site is listed as a pull through but it is nothing more than a pull over area. We only saw the park ranger once the entire time we were there. We were very disappointed with the entire experience and will not be back.... - Sharrell

My wife had a doctor's appointment at UAB medical center and we stayed here for three days. The site we had was shaded and level with 30 amp service. We enjoyed our stay but were unable to use our satellite due to the trees surrounding our site. - Fordiesel250

This is a nice park. The sites are gravel, but close together. Fairly level. The store here is unlike any I’ve seen. They have everything you could ever need for your rig in there, including ice . Traffic around here is pretty bad if you’re needing to go anywhere, so plan accordingly. Nice showers, laundry and all the hookups. I’d stay here again - Alexsinclaire

Old park in need of maintenance. Friendly staff, easy access and convenient location. - NEBrown
Oct 2018 - $38.00
Interior roads are little tight, but doable. The section where we were was level, had nice grass and open for satellites. There was another section that was more wooded and was occupied by what looked like long term campers. Overall it was fine, but it really could use some TLC to get a higher rating from me. I would stay here again if passing through. - Paulski

site #40, pull through. Bathrooms dated. Quiet area, grassy. Campground located 5 miles beyond gate house. Would stay again. Electric was to far from where positioning of rig needed to be, fortunately I had a spare cable. - abqnm
Nov 2018 - $29.00
We have stayed at Oak Mountain twice in the last month and have loved it both times. There is so much to do at the park like riding horses, hiking, fishing, walking trails, riding bikes, visit the farm and more. We stayed in B49 and B60. The photo is of B49.
When booking your reservation read the site description. It is very helpful. B49 said not recommended for slide outs but we have a small camper with one very small slide out so it was perfect for us. If you go after hours there is only one way to go in. It is off exit 240. Call and ask and they will give you directions. The staff was very nice. - Kelli S
Nov 2018 - $29.00
Beautiful park.Rained the two days we were here but we will come back. Some sites are clustered together in odd ways in loop A not allowing for much privacy unless you are with a group. Would avoid them. 11-12-13 are all very close. 12 and 13 were plently large for our 37' 5th wheel but in the future would take spots 24 or 25 if you want full hook ups with more privacy. Loop B is more open with pull throughs but the sites seemed far more crowded. Good Verizon signal here as well. - AdrianaW

This park is primarily for permanent residents in mobile homes or rvs. Access to our site was difficult because it slopped off the road and required backing over a drainage trough. The site had a level concrete pad designed to be used as a patio, but we had to use it to park on as the adjacent area for the motorhome was severely rutted gravel. It would have been difficult to impossible to level there. Nonetheless it was a pleasant rural area to be in. Staff is friendly and helpful. No wifi yet through out the park. Owners have purchased the equipment and are waiting for the installers to set it up. An adequate place for a brief stay to visit the historic sights Birmingham has to offer. - Roger H.
Mar 2017 - $27.00
Very Nice Staff. We stayed on short notice with our HDT and 45 foot 5th wheel. The staff worked hard to find a place for us. The other reviews are correct that the office / clubhouse is in the convenience store /strip mall and the storm gutters are deep. The campground was a mobile home park and seems to be transitioning into a mixed-use park. The campground roads are two lanes in width and paved, as you'd expect for a mobile home park and there are very few low branches. All the sites we saw are back-in and large. The water pressure, electric, and over the air TV are good; our Verizon internet was fair to poor. Understand that the park has Wifi, pool table and kitchen facilities at the clubhouse, but we did not visit it. There are swings for kids. The site we stayed in was loose gravel and rutted under our weight. However, there is a concrete patio and pavement partially into the site area to park on. The park is about 20 minutes from the downtown medical centers. - Behemoth

Great value. Stayed for 5 days to visit family in Birmingham. Managers were very responsive even though I arrived late. Really good park. - Robby Ray
