14 RV Parks near Huntsville, Alabama
Oct 2018 - $32.00
I reviewed this park three years ago and the character of the park has changed since then. About 80 percent of the sites are now long term campers. They have also moved in camping cabins and have rental RV units available. Fortunately, the better waterfront sites are still available for short term. The three piers that used to be available for fishing are now marked for "boat owners only". There are some short term sites that are off the waterfront, but they are so unlevel, or small, they are not usable for RVs (maybe tents). The sites are gravel bordered by timbers and the waterfront sites are generally very good. The site spacing is fair, but not private. This is still a TVA property managed by an contract company. The company does a pretty good job and the staff are all friendly. There is an abundance of staff and camp hosts. Golf carts have taken over. It seems like all the long term campers, and staff members, have golf carts and there is a constant stream of them on the roads. The long term sites are kept fairly uncluttered and the bathrooms are exceptionally clean. Although the hiking trails are well marked, they have not been maintained. This campground has a "family with kids" atmosphere, although there is only a bare minimum of playground equipment in the campground. There is a small beach, a camping store with ice cream and fishing bait. Sites are power and water only - no sewer; however there is a pump-out service available for $12.72 which makes rounds twice a day. They do have a dump station, but it is slightly unlevel which results in incomplete drainage. At the time we were there, the lake was covered with weed from the shore to about 100 feet out. That made fishing difficult from the shore. There is a no website reservation capability - you must call them for a reservation. - Bama Camper

Absolutely one of our favorite campgrounds ever. The site we had was right on the lake. I could walk out the door and make a few cast and catch a fish. Everyone that worked at the park were great and willing to help with anything they could. The camp staffer that helped us with everything from the honeywagon to renting the pontoon boat was awesome. To be fair the restrooms could be upgraded but they are still very functional, especially for our needs. Roads were very good and check in staff and store staff were also exceptional. - Jimmy g

Great family get away location with hiking/biking/walking trails and paths, close to boating, golf, museum, water park and shopping. A staff member drove us around the campground on a golf cart and let us pick out our spot, we chose a shady pull trough, a great perk. Although some site are tight, we felt the space between sites was ample. There are some "full timers" staying at this park due to a Facebook office being built near Huntsville, but we had no issues with anyone. The park has a store, it closes at 5ish, and has a good mix of supplies, also, Ice is cheap at $2 per 10lb bag . Gravel sites with paved interior roads. The Point Mallard Park had The Battle of Decatur re-enactment over the weekend, which was cool watch. The only thing missing was a pool, but Point Mallard Water Park is walking distance if you choose to battle to crowds and pay the $20 per person to get in. Overall great experience, clean park, we will visit again. - BTR007

This is a fun campground. Yes it is a county park but there are so many amenities that you will not be bored. We only stayed 1 night and wish we could have stayed longer. There are bike trails along the Tennessee River, a water park, a ice skating rink, playgrounds and softball fields along with soccer fields. The campsites are all shaded by the trees and are close together. We were able to get one of the pull thru sites. The campground is close to shopping, and restaurants. Cell service was excellent. We will definitely be back. - On the Road Again with Dave and Christie
