Great campsite. Enjoyed. Stayed 3 days. Would go back again. - Tampajohn
Jul 2019 - $1.00
What a super-nice park! We had a pull-through site with a great location. All FHU worked well, although 50 amps would have been nice (our site had 30 amp svc). We didn't use the WiFi and although Verizon cell service was not good at all, AT&T data service was amazingly fast and reliable. All of the facilities were clean and well-maintained and Smith Lake is beautiful and relaxing. Although the interior roads are not paved, in my opinion they are well-kept and we had no issues with overhanging limbs or pot-holes throughout the park. We will happily return, and soon, I hope. - ziaptrn
Aug 2018 - $1.00
Manager and her husband are very informative and helpful. Facility has a majority of sites booked as annual sites but about 7-10 in each area (30a and 50a areas) are available. I didn't have any difficulty in getting a reservation for the time I wanted. Clean well kept up park, it is out of the way of major cities which many Thousand Trails parks are. Boat launch ramp and docks on site. - krisbw

We stayed oct 7 to oct 12. Had reserved site 82 not knowing the camp ground but since I brought my boat the staff moved me to site 45 (a walk up) that was right on the water. Staff was very helpful told us we could pick up any wood for a campfire that was already cut and there was plenty due to some wind damage earlier in the year. Beautiful park and great site. Plenty of room between sites and shade. Bathhouse very clean. Smith lake is great, we had our pontoon with us and even found a restaurant the trident marina to ear at. Will be back. - Thomas Kainz
Oct 2018 - $18.00
Impressive campground with large, well-spaced paved sites. There is lots of shade and good visual separation between sites. Some of the sites have a good view of the lake. Site 82 has trees blocking some of the view, but it is still a great site. It is level and easy to back into with a big fifth wheel. There are some weird "double" sites, which are just extra wide sites with two electric boxes and two faucets. The few that were occupied had only a single unit on them. They are $48 per night. I guess you could put two RVs in one of these sites if one of them is very small. There is a nice wide sandy beach for swimming. There is no shopping real close, but Jasper is only 12 miles away and has everything. - winnie1
Jun 2017 - $18.00
Nice sites, but sort of close together. Good water access with good bank/shore fishing possible. Showers were old and tired. Unfortunately they were controlled by a push button for water flow. However the mix (hot/cold) was just right, amazingly. Very expensive firewood, $5.00 for six or eight "twig" like pieces of wood. No cell coverage with T-Mobile. - huevo movil

Oct 2019 - $35.00
If there was a way to give a negative rating, I would. We have camped in fields at Samborees that were in better shape. The road to the Office almost required 4-wheel drive, deep ditches on each side. The road to the camp sites from the office was as bad or worse. Almost ripped off my sewer tube mounted under the rear frame. Do yourself a favor and find another place. - Michelle & Ann
Jun 2016 - $33.00
Park not well maintained. Grass needs to be cut. Grassy level sites. 2-3 dogs running loose. Several campers appear to be full time guest with unkempt sites. - a_d travelers_2
Nov 2015 - $34.00
This stay taught me to always read the reviews on a campground before going there. The recent reviews on this place were spot on: bad roads, trash, restrooms dilapidated, sites very tight, etc. How this park was rated highly by an RV club is beyond me. Won't go here again. - Bosley08

This park exceeded all expectations! We finished hiking later than planned so had called several campgrounds but most had closed for the night. Not only did the staff call back within 5 mins they were so friendly to help get us settled. Before we even pulled into our campsite site, another staff member was blowing off the area so there were no gumballs to clear before setting up tent. What a wonderful extra touch. This was our first camping trip with our 2 and 4 yr old boys. Later in the night a state trooper, who had been patrolling the area, stopped to say hello. He let the boys pick out a prize (one was a Smokey the Bear badge and it made their day). Bathrooms were excellent and the area was extremely quiet. We will definitely come back. - lreid31
Oct 2018 - $30.00
Overnight stay in wooded setting. When arriving there was a note to call for the gate code. We never got any checkin information but we didn't have a problem. Nice trail down to an overlook for the lake. - lce3
Oct 2018 - $25.00
My wife and I went up for a short fall weekend getaway in early October. It was easy to find and well marked. There are 2 campground areas. We stayed in the Yellowhammer loop which had more foliage and shade than the other. Our spot was 20 and was on the inside of the loop which was not our preference but the park was almost full when we got there (due to online reservation system being updated we couldn't reserve online for that weekend). Foliage between spots was tress and saplings....no real low lying growth so you could easily see other campsites through the foliage (which is not our preference). The site was level and had everything you would need...even sewer. Easily long enough for my 22 foot trailer and our suburban. There were a few downers. The fire ring was permanently anchored in a narrow corner near the road. The hot water heater in the bathhouse right up the hill from our site was broken so that shower was not useable, and the shower in the men's bathroom at the other bathhouse in our loop was out of service....but there was a handicapped shower/bathroom that worked....but it had no bench or anything to put your clean clothes on...just the sink and the toilet....and everything on the floor was wet because the shower splattered all over the bathroom.....making it hard to get dressed without things getting a bit dirty and wet again.... needs to be fixed (particularly the hot water heater). The lake water was beautiful....amazingly clear.... the water level was down about 8 feet from normal however...don't know if this is just normal for this time of year, or if they had drained it for some reason.....you can see where the regular water level is and that would make the lake stunningly beautiful, but what you saw was a lot of orange dirt/rock and stumps that would usually be below the water line.....so might want to check on the water level sometime if you go if you want it to look it's best. All in all a good camp out, but not the best - Marciekaputnik

Sep 2005 - $20.00
Very nice location, a bit out of the way and hard to find. The campground is a Christian retreat, with campsites and dorms, although we did not see any of those visitors. The host was very friendly and helpful. Level, gravel sites with some trees. We used the bath house for showers but it was in disrepair, with spiders and bugs in residence. The larger swimming pool was open, but the smaller one seemed to be closed for quite awhile, full of trash. We stayed at the Coast to Coast rate, so at that price, we would stay again. - Makanamommy

Originally gave us site #4, too small, too short and would have been a nightmare to get 30' TT into. Camper on #6 was leaving and we called to get that spot. Used 20 blocks to get level. Very small older park that has nearly gone under. I would be hesitant to stay there w/o making sure they understand the size of your rig. Not site #4 or #5 unless smaller than 21'. We had family about 10 miles away and this was one of few choices in area. Pool is nice and spring feed, $5 per adult, good size. Keeps park open. Did not do the cave, discount if staying there $15 a person seemed too much. Stayed 2 days. Pool nice and cool. Ask for site #6 if available. All sites are downhill off narrow road w/ high ground above road and tight spaces. Some sites have large stumps in between sites (4&5). About 5 mi. off the highway. - Kayak54
Jul 2017 - $27.00
We overnighted here in July. It was not too far from interstate, but wonderfully quiet. There are only about 10 campsites, and they are layed in in a haphazard fashion, and very tight. We were in Site number three, and I was grateful there was no one in site 2. The surface may have been gravel at some point, but mostly covered in silt, making it sort of muddy. There is a nice pool area, and of course the caverns. Unfortunately we did not have time for the cavern tour. If I go there again, it will be to see the cavern, not for the campsite. The site was quite short, and we had to park our truck crosswise in front of our 30 ft 5th wheel. There are a couple of longer sites for motor homes, but we were not offered those sites. - Doxie Mom
Mar 2017 - $26.00
Small campground with sites that are close together and gently sloped. We stayed for two nights and were practically by ourselves the second night. Lots of trees, and places to stroll. The bathroom facilities are modern and clean. The showers are the family, individual type rooms. The park staff is friendly and professional. The roads from I-65 are somewhat narrow with plenty of curves. The park roads are also narrow. I'd say this is not the place for larger rigs. We have a 27' TT and it was difficult to get it parked in the site. - Lance 47

Nov 2016 - $20.00
The most difficult part is getting To the park down small country roads. Once there you'll find a fine little city park with recreation areas, ball fields, creek with fish and a rope swing and enough bike trails to make anyone happy. Camp 'sites' are not really designated but rather areas in the wooded area behind the ball fields to pull into, in what ever manner you wish to reach the hookups and miss the trees. If you call for a 'reservation' you will probably talk to the city mayor - who runs the canoe company at the front of this city park. WiFi was Excellent, I never did find the laundry, there are no 'facilities' (I'd rather use my own bathroom anyway) and grocery and fuel are a 10-15 minute drive to the new Walmart. TV reception was good but I had no t-mobile or AT&T phone service. We stayed more than one night and were able to 'negotiate' a rate of 5/$80. I really liked the park setting of this campground even if getting here was a challenge. Small country roads would Not be feasible for a really big rig, but Most motorhomes and trailers will like it once they get here and be in a good location for visiting the Birmingham area. - SailorGolf

Arrived after office hours and did not find any site information as promised. There was a gravel area near the office with a few full hook ups. We backed into a site here, hook ups worked well and we had a nice grassy view from our large back window. This is a huge part of over 200 sites. Many sites are close together and on the grass. - sp123
Oct 2018 - $17.00
Super large campground, well maintained. Next to Alabama Public boat launch (free). We stayed for thirty days as reflected in the rate we paid. Can stay for up to six months. Only complaint there are no sites with views of beautiful Smith Lake. Two very nice playgrounds, putt putt, pool, lake, beach. Very laid back. Nice people. - Roadtrip500
Sep 2018 - $23.00
Heartland held an Ala. group meeting here (17 campers) - at a reduced rate. Two months out we signed up to stay a full week ($160 - $170 for the week). Most important to know: no wifi and no Verizon; only two or three weak over the air TV channels. Parking pads required backing in at a 300 degree turn in - which pulled my safety brake cord out. The 50A service, water and sewer were fine. My assigned spot (M22) was foul with cigarette butts. - FoxH
