First of all I feel I should justify this review since one has not been done in a while. I am camping here during the winter months and a lot could change in the summer. Specific to winter is the park hours- you cannot get access between 3 pm and 6pm. This park is in the heart of Alabama deer country and apparently a private road access is required to enter the park and the owner leases his property and people hunt it daily. I am at Cedar Ridge lot 1 (only one of two drive thru sites) and it is gorgeous!! Quiet. Peaceful. Beautiful overlooking lake. Very few campers here at this time of year. Park staff accommodating. Well run during these months. Nothing to do locally but there is history here including indian baths and original Alabama state house (now a museum). Univ of South Alabama archeological sites. Make sure you enter off hwy 43 from the northern route (near Leroy H.S.- county road 34). The other route is fine but winding. Rural, country road access in good shape. NO handout with maps for guests?? The lake is an old limestone quarry and stocked with fish. All access to restaurants and stores in Jackson 25 mins away. I am a rare one in that I got wifi thru direct line-of-site to office with interior antenna. No cable and I got 4 over the air television channels after adjusting antenna (I am on a ridge!). My friend who is a local said a lot of work has been done here since he was last here. Swimming- shallow area for kids with water slide. Deep off the bank swimming could be dangerous if swimming outside accepted areas. Crystal Clear water! I am not sure if this is a one nite stay park- 20 minutes off highway. Depends on your schedule, I guess. Since it is winter the bathrooms are locked so I could not inspect. Plan to visit museum before leaving. Sites appear to be able to handle 5th wheels with tow vehicles easily. The park manager is a 6th generation local and knows the park and area very well. Easy to talk to. - BillyBobTX

We were told when making reservations that there was a large number of "permanent" campers and only a few sites available for short term rental. The park rules of a two week maximum stay was obviously not enforced. This park was poorly designed and managed. The road was rough and speed limits were not enforced. All traffic to the small beach area and to the boat landing, drives past the majority of campsites. Vehicles and boats were parked haphazardly, extension cords ran from power poles to makeshift campsites. Golf cart traffic added to the congestion. The website boasted of boat rentals, however the boats were in disrepair and not available. We had visited this park about 10 years ago, and were very disappointed this trip. - TheRoadrunner

This is a really beautiful park, located on a small lake. Our campsite was on the lake, with a view of the sunset. However, there are no hiking paths nor any bicycle paths. There is a small beach which is not terribly appealing. There was a volleyball net up and a horseshoe game set up. There is some fishing, but very few fish. The showers and washing machine area were terribly old and very unappealing. We enjoyed our campsite, but actually left early because there was so little of the activities we enjoy, like hiking. The nearby town was run down and unappealing. - Atnt Life Grand
Oct 2016 - $22.00
This is one of the most beautiful parks we have ever come across. It was mid week in Oct, but we were one of the only campers there. Very clean! There are a few pull through sites, but we chose to back in, over the lake. So pretty to wake up and have coffee in the morning looking at the lake.
Peaceful, quiet...amazing! The only reason I didn't give it a 10 is that I had little to no Verizon phone service there and thus no internet (over my HotSpot). I work from the road, so that was a problem. I would go back though, for a few days. - GranNan06
Jan 2012 - $28.00
Well kept secret for such a neat park. Most of the sites overlook a well stocked 100 acre lake. Fishing is good and there is a swimming beach. The campground is quiet with only the sounds of nature to entertain you. There is a well kept municipal golf course, picnic area, Frisbee golf and athletic fields as part of this municipal complex. I hesitate to tell the world about this park since if the word gets out, we won't be able to get a reservation. - Roodriver
Mar 2019 - $40.00
Great site with concrete pad. Great spacing between sites. Sites were staggered to allow privacy. Nearby boat landing allowed for access to fishing. We picked our site on arrival and were met there be friendly hosts. About 20 minutes to downtown Mobile and an hour to Gulf Shores. Grocery shopping in nearby town of Bay Minette. - Kltwestover

**They charge a $40.00 CASH security deposit when you come in. You get it back when you leave but they will keep it for even minor infractions, including leaving 2 minutes after check out time. They also do not turn the water on to the site until you arrive. We didn't have water available until the next day since we came in late.** This county campground used to be a KOA. It has a very nice laundry facility with 4 washers/dryers. Older bathhouse but clean. An in-ground swimming pool, small playground, dog walk, nice nature walk on the river, a pavilion, boat launch, pier fishing, two ponds and a lake stocked with bluegill and bass. No wifi but AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile worked well. All sites pull through with FHU, 30&50 amp, picnic table and fire pit. Each site floods easily in rain and the roads are mostly dirt with a little gravel. (Grass parking with very few trees.) Right next to I-65, so the traffic noise is LOUD at rush hour. 30 day sites and 90 day sites are available. There is staff here from 6am - 9pm. Gate closed at 9pm but there is an onsite host/security. WalMart and Publix 15 miles away in Saraland. Not a bad place to sit for a month in Feb! - LizabethC
