Bairdsnest is a small, tidy park that is off the beaten track. It is by a very busy road that is quite noisy. There are some overhanging branches at the main entrance that you just can't avoid. We cringed going in and coming back out. There is one interior road that is an oval, and the turn at the back is a bit tight. There are sites on the sides and sites in the middle. Most sites have concrete pads. Some are definitely more suitable for larger rigs. There are pull-thru and back-in sites. Our site was a pull-thru but you had to drive through muddy, wet grass to get to the concrete pad. The pad had a steep drop off at the front so we had to back out. There is no direct shade but there are trees around the perimeter. Directv worked fine in our site and probably would in all sites. There is no cell service. We could not get the WII FI to work at our site despite help from the owner. So be prepared to be incommunicado! The owners are nice and are trying to upgrade the park. It is still a work in progress. - Free
Sep 2018 - $16.00
The owners are very hospitable and helpful. They have provided the essential amenities without the frills consistent with a mountain atmosphere. There is an on site general store with camping supplies. We visited several nearby attractions and were well pleased with the park and facilities. We wish them great success as they continue to develop this very nice park. Sites are gravel, level and well kept We would visit again when the leaves are in full autumn color. - Bill from Tallahassee

Owners manage the Campground - they were incredibly attentive and professional. Beautifully manicured and cared for - very diverse with a pond, running creek, trails, pet area. Rained hard while we were there for 3 days but drainage on the grounds was excellent. Great access to highway. Mentone is a hidden gem! Will return! - TexMexRVer

Quiet and peaceful. Practically had the place to ourselves. Campsites are spaced out. Very shady, dense trees through the whole camp. Nice trail around the pond with lots of wild blackberries in June. Bathhouse was a bit crude but was functional. A little pricey compared to similar campgrounds but considerably less and much more peaceful than a nearby State Park. I could not get a good Verizon signal on my phone from my campsite and the WiFi was only usable in the immediate vicinity of the camp office and bathhouse. - RLZerr
Oct 2010 - $20.00
Serinity lives up to its name. It is a quiet park in a very wooded area around a man made lake. The park provides overflow for nearby Desoto Falls State park but is worthy in its own right. The owner is very friendly and helpful. The park is clean and well maintained. On the down side, the restrooms and shower rooms are crude and sort of "home made" with plywood floors, one without bare studs showing. There is LOTS to do in the area. - Buddy Ray

May 2009 - $22.00
I'm not exactly sure how to rate this campground. On one hand, it had a special ambiance to it that took us back in time to the 1960's. It it a quiet, family-oriented campground with all of the basic necessities. The staff was very helpful and friendly, and the Caverns and Homestead exhibit were an added bonus. On the other hand, we felt like the campground was in disrepair. I'm sure being a small family run campground, that funds are tight to do improvements. However, they could increase their business by 200 percent if they would invest some money into it's appearance. My negative comments would include unlevel sites which are too close to each other, and the need to upgrade the bathhouse. My positive comments would include the beautiful scenery, nice pool and location with area attractions. - RandyP
May 2008 - $27.00
We are giving this campground a 7 only because it really needs some updating and upkeep. The caverns are great (our guide was very knowledgeable) , as is the animals, pool and the quiet area. At check in the people weren't too friendly. The bathrooms weren't cleaned and there wasn't a lot of hot water. I don't think that we will go back - noriwitt
May 2008 - $10.00
It is with reluctance I give this park a 6. There is a real dicotomy here. Start with the Pluses: Great location, quiet, recently part of Passport America (hence low rate), Wi-Fi (but only at picnic pavillion near cave entrance), lots of shade and room for kids, tent sites, lots to do at campground with caverns and woodworking and living history displays, close to Mentone and Fort Payne. Minuses: tight sites, some significant leveling issues, tight turns on gravel roads, steep grade in/out, dump station not on level surface and in disrepair, lack of hot water in showers (tepid at best, pilot light went out we were told), most of the sites could use some attention of some sort. We stopped here to visit the area, and were happy with choice. Take time to visit caverns and chat with family members. If you have PA, it is a GREAT deal. But if you have a big rig, are not comfortable on narrow roads, have trouble backing, then this may not be your cup of tea. I really want to see them succeed and keep this facility open. With the temporary closure of State Park campground for renovations, hopefully increased business will provide capital to make the improvements needed to bring this up to a 8 or 9 with out a lot of effort. - Too-wow

Don't let the "Under New Management" concern you, Wills Creek RV Park is a GREAT place to stay. It's so easy to access from I-59 and even easier to get to your spot of choice within the park. The park is very well maintained and can accommodate any size RV/Motorhome. Very "family friendly" with some of the residents calling it home for long stretches at a time. I will tell you, you will not find a more pleasant park to stay at and the price is cheaper than a good meal at one of the local (within 5 minutes) major restaurant chains. So, stop in and say hello to the host and I promise you, as I did, you'll make another friend and he'll make you feel welcome. - TheRetiredBear
Dec 2018 - $28.00
Don't trust your GPS on this address. Ours said we were there before we actually got to the RV park. We ended up slamming on the brakes when we finally saw the entrance. The park is across from the airport behind some trees. Once you get back there, it's a nice country setting. Check in was fast, easy and friendly. You pick whichever site you want. The sites and interior roads are gravel, some of it pretty thick. The sites all looked fairly level. They are narrow with trees at most sites at the entrance and exit which makes it challenging when towing. We took a branch right across the front windshield as there was no way to avoid it. Also, our passenger side slide nudged up against another tree. All the branches of the trees were hanging low maybe from rain or else they need a good trimming. We just fit in the site with our 45 foot MH and tow. There was lots of standing water in the roads and sites as it had been raining. The sites are pretty close together with a strip of grass and sometimes a tree or two. Verizon was 4g 3 bars and Directv satellite locked on fine. The WII FI worked good for the most part. There are quite a few long-term renters with some rather interesting vehicles. There are planes, trains and automobiles. Sometimes the trains blew their horns for a very long time. Tractor trailers can be heard either from the I-59 or airport road. Overall, an ok park but noisier than we expected. - Free

Excellent, quiet, clean park. Mostly pull throughs. All full hook up 30/50 amp sewer and water. Free WIFI. Wills Creek runs along the border of the property if you wish to fish. Now under new mgmt and ownership. - LostSoulCa

The nightly rate reflects a month plus electric for 2 weeks. I intended on only staying one week but added another week then decided on the month! Owners were very nice! Park is no frills but clean and friendly. Everything is on the honor system: self check-in, purchasing firewood and ice. Bathhouse was clean with great water pressure and hot water. Some steep roads....larger Class A rigs could have a problem but there are several sites right by the office that would suit them. Lots to do in the area. - RVingMe
Jun 2017 - $40.00
We selected this park due to the proximity to Little River Canyon. If you are wanting to see the Canyon, this is a great park. There are no family activities, no pool, not much to do but see the Canyon. Park is a little difficult to locate at first. Could use some improved directional signs. The park itself is beautiful and quiet. Our spot was slightly off-level but not bad considering being in the mountains. Bring leveling equipment. I never met the staff, only phone. Used the honor system for check in/out and payment. I like that. I will certainly be back. - DA TT
Apr 2017 - $18.00
This is a new park in the construction phase. It is not a resort but a really nice campground. The roads are a little tight, but doable with our 40' fifth wheel. The sites were level with plenty of space. The wifi would come and go depending on the time of day and number of users. Our particular site had a fuzzy cable connection. The hook ups were centrally located. We will stay again when in the area. - Al and Anne-Marie

We really liked the East Rim the Best. Seemed more open and spacious and right down the street to see the beautiful Canyon. Nice gravel sites. Has one bathhouse only. It is very old but functional. The water pressure is pretty high, so be careful hooking up to the water. No full hook up available. Fall leaves were about peak. Regarding the trails. We hiked the Sitton's Gulch Trailhead, 4 miles roundtrip. Don't be fooled, it is difficult for 60 year old folks, but was finally worth the view of Hemlock Falls. Nearest grocery stores was about 7-8 miles. We will be back. - Leesfromga

We stayed three nights in the West Rim Campground. The campground was clean and well kept. We hiked a lot of trails. The waterfalls were flowing nicely. - 97wing

Ok for passing thru. The park is well maintained. But hard navigating the tiny roads and turnarounds required to check in. Camphost seemed like we bothered her "lunch time" when we asked for directions. Been to much nicer State Parks before, and will check this one off my list. - Muffin70043
Nov 2017 - $31.00
Great campground with beautiful wooded campsites! Pros - spacious sites, fishing, trails, great scenery Cons - Not full hookup, no pool or beach. - RandyP
Oct 2016 - $28.00
This park is beautifully wooded and the staff takes immaculate care of the campsites and their campers. Spotless restrooms kept clean by wonderful hosts. Naturalists very helpful with good hiking trails. The only challenge is that most all sites have some kind of grade that made leveling our 32' motorhome somewhat of a lesson in patience. Come prepared with extra blocks or other equipment needed for this. I just wish they had full hookups but any inconvenience here is made up three fold by the wonderful, serene setting. This our first time here but will be a regular stop when exploring north from Alabama. - bobnemens

Definitely follow the driving instructions listed on the website and do not let your GPS bring you to the park. Even so, the park is not exactly convenient to the Interstate; however, it is a better RV park than run-of-the-mill and that should weigh in your decision. As others have commented, full complement of hook-ups, 45 lbs. water pressure at site #52, could not get any Wi-Fi there and despite the asphalt parking pad, my automatic leveler lifted a side wheel slightly off the ground in order to achieve neutrality. Park is gated at night (with entrance key pad), with ample space between camp sites and plenty of trees. Drainage is excellent in the wet winter months. Try to arrive during daylight hours, as this park is in the boonies with narrow roads and no lighting until you actually arrive at the park. Diesel is available only 3 miles down the road. The restaurant has excellent fare, friendly service and reasonable prices. I enjoyed country fried chicken and my wife went for the 12 fried shrimp, all for $38.00. Salad bar was nice and fresh. All-in-all this is a peaceful, quiet and wooded campground with excellent facilities. We stayed one night while on the road to elsewhere. - TMN-15
Nov 2018 - $36.00
Outstanding RV park in a spectacular area. You just can't say enough on how well Alabama manages and develops their state parks. They are a model for the rest of the states. This park is simply great. I only have one gripe that kept us from rating it higher and that has to do with SOME of the site engineering and design. About 1/3 to 1/2 the sites do not have level sites. We were on a site we had thought was level based on web site pics only to find it was severely slopped. Obviously they had to fight topography in the design and development and the problem may not be as bad for trailers as for motor-homes. Trailers can tongue level but with our motorhome jacks we could not level. It was so bad we had to switch sites and we really strained out jack system to the point it would not retract from the boards underneath them. All that said it is a grand place with a wonderful staff and we will return! (just being careful of which site we choose) - americanrascal

Very nice park. We stayed three nights. The campground is well maintained. The wifi was very weak at our campsite. (It is broadcast from the bath houses). We hiked several trails while there and visited the CCC museum. We will be back. - 97wing

We stayed here for a week for $120 while working as volunteers helping rebuild a church in the area that was destroyed by a tornado last year. The park was quiet and all hookups worked well and the WIFI was GREAT! You should enter by the Bellefonte Road entrance since there are low hanging limbs if you come in by the office from Hwy 72. The only issue we had was that even though the gravel pad looks solid, the soft ground under the gravel allowed our leveling jacks to sink so we had to raise them and put large wooden pads under them. There is no staff on site so you have to go the the Texaco station four miles north on Hwy 72 to check in. - Nomads_2
Sep 2016 - $20.00
We're staying a month = $400! Normally $120 a week, discounted if renting by the month. The park is an hours drive to Huntsville, AL & Chattanooga, TN. Easy access to I-24 and I -65. Fairly new park. The wifi works great. We're here visiting family and seeing doctors before heading to FL for the winter and it is all we need. It is close to the Tennessee river and fishing, great BBQ down the road. - Judy Owens MacNicol

The Pros: Pet friendly, wi-fi available, great view, peaceful. The Cons: No bathroom or shower facilities any closer than the 1/4 to a 1/2 a mile walk from camping area, no public telephone, no food, beverages, or ice at location, must drive 8 miles for anything. No cable or satellite access. Management is very unprofessional (a woman running around half dressed). I was there for Valentines Day, and any respectable persons do not care for such behavior. Most residents or visitors were men, so we guessed its acceptable to most there. This park is geared for hang gliders only apparently, at least now. We were there several years ago and it had different management, public restrooms, showers, public phone, and served food at campsite area via a concessions unit. It was obvious to us they neither cared or wanted private individuals in their park. It appeared the park has many permanent residents in it, hang gliders we assumed. - Jerry & John
Jan 2007 - $69.00
A very clean, and well cared for facility! Staff was courteous, helpful and responsive. The park is nestled at the base of Lookout Mountain in a delightful rural setting. It is located next to hang gliding landing field and caters primarily to those who come for hang gliding but all are welcome. Chattanooga is an easy drive with many activities available in the area. It was fascinating watching the hang gliders being towed up for their flights or watching them glide gracefully to the ground. All the people we met during our stay were warm and friendly. I strongly recommend you consider staying at this safe and family oriented facility. - Rowbear
