The good thing about this park is that it's in a beautiful locale on Mallard Creek. If you're a boater or a fisherman it's great. Also they have spaces together for groups of three units to camp together. It is about 10 miles from any shopping. Unfortunately not all the "amenities" they list are actually operational. They only have 5 full-hookup spaces and they are not near the lake. There is no WiFi except in the office. Our space had trash and many cigarette butts from previous campers. The bathrooms have no electrical plugs and are not cleaned on a regular basis. The women's shower had cigarette butts in the shower as well as dirty washcloths....two days in a row. Another shower was full of ants. They encourage you to pay another $10 for a gate key or you have to wait at the gate to be let in. As other campers have mentioned the roads are narrow and the gates narrower still. The morning we were leaving the tornado warning siren went off....we tried to call the office (after 9 a.m.) and only got a recording. When it stopped as we were gathering our pets to find shelter we realized it was a test. It would have been considerate to inform campers when they check in that they have the test every Monday! We would not stay here again. - Catsinatrailer

Check in was easy and staff was friendly. Sites were well marked and clean. Nice picnic table and fire pit at sites. Site backed up right to Wheeler Lake, great view and sunrise. Great campground, will definitely go back. - Mhallman9903

Roads are very narrow. Gate entering the campground area itself is very narrow. (A lot of paint scrapings on the gate posts). First site we were in was very unlevel (site P49). Also, we couldn't open our bedroom slide due to the power meter being so high. There was a dog chained up outside all day and night that barked all the time. Roads and sites are not big rig friendly. There was an additional $5.00 per night fee for "park amenities", which I assume was for the boat ramp, which we didn't use. Didn't see any other "park amenities", that aren't in other campgrounds. - Phaeton

Very similar to roughing it (mud and all) by the river, only with electric, water and sewer. Regardless of anything (State or personal emergencies), reservations not cancelled 7 days in advance are not refundable where other campgrounds did give us a refund due to a state declared emergency. Con's: Interface with management done only by phone. Reservation, check-in & problem resolution. Around 400 feet of very pot holed narrow driveway. Many potholes in little bit of asphalt then much more potholes in the more clay than gravel drive. (Very muddy when it rains). More long term "campers" in the park then recreational RV campers. Paper litter, cigarette butts, nuts & bolts, metal scraps found on camp sites. Bathroom & shower building is far from camping sites. Sites are close to each other. No fishing allowed. Pro's: 2 unisex bathrooms & showers were clean. Site utilities (electric, water & sewer) are convenient. Electric 30 amp circuit showed good connection and grounding. Reservation email sent with a site map document with your site. Picnic tables at each site. Nice river view. Common area gazebo with a fire pit and a little playground. Otherwise, utility hookups are located at the beginning of the pull through. If your connections are not long then your tow vehicle has to be detached and parked in front of your rig. Has the makings of a nice RV park...someday. - Sher Keb

This is a marina with an RV park. The full hook-up 30/50 amp sites have gravel pads surrounded by grass. They do not have picnic tables. The road into the park is gravel has some small holes so you have to drive slowly. We could not get anything on the satellite so we had to use the antennae for Huntsville stations. At the end of the RV park is a shaded grassy area next to the river. It has a dock, patio chairs and a great view of the Tennessee River. In the marina area is a small park with a gazebo, fire pit, benches, games and grill. It is not your typical RV park because the property also has a boat repair garage and storage for boats, trucks and trailers. The RV park also offers monthly rates. We had a pull-through site which was not on the river and did not have trees, however, some sites are on the river with trees. There are a lot of things to do in Decatur, so this park was a great home base off of Route 72/20. It is only 2 turns from I-65. This is a good place to stay when Point Mallard cannot take reservations, however, it is more expensive than Point Mallard. - Lini
Aug 2015 - $27.00
I was headed from Scottsburg, Indiana to Mississippi when I called and made reservations at another local park, but upon arrival we could not fit in any of the spots they had available even after I made sure they knew I had a 42' ft triple axle trailer that I was pulling with a long bed 4 door 4x4 dually. We had been on the road all day and 5 miles from Decatur we had a blow out and were really ready to get off the road. I called Jay Landing from the first park drive way and explained my situation and they said that they would get us into a spot even if we had to pull across a couple of spots. Wow I was ready. I want to mention that this RV park is owed by our Veterans - God bless. It looks like they are making some improvement to the park. Pros - It is right on the water, so you can fish or just sit and watch the boats go by, the staff is very accommodating, water pressure is great, close to town, and it can be very peaceful when the metal yard is not active (it really wasn't that bad). Cons - the road coming in is rough (they grated it today and that helped some), there is a metal yard behind the park that can be noisy, needs some TLC. I have been RVing for a very long time. Is this one of the nicest parks I have ever stayed in - No. BUT, I had just had a blow out, showed up at a park that could not accommodate me, needed to get a new tire (there is a Good Year right across the road) and when I called and explained the mess I was in they said they would do whatever it took to get me in a spot for a few days even if they had to pull me across a few spots - kindness goes a long way with me. Another review mentioned a semi sharp curve to get in the park area - we just backed up once and came right on in. If I was passing by Decatur and needed a place to stay I would stay here again. - 42 Raptor
Dec 2018 - $35.00
This place is a dump! We stayed here to be close to my best friend, but I wouldn’t stay here if they paid me! It’s old, and very uncared for and it shows. The bathrooms are old, old, old. Chipping paint, messy, small stalls, not cared for. The “showers” are the worst I’ve ever seen. The faucets and shower heads look like they were installed in the 1950s, and barely a trickle of water comes out if you want it hot. The other showers in the other building have no hot water at all. Think they told us this when we registered??? Hell no! Like I sold folks THIS PLACE IS A DUMP! I’m ashamed to be staying here. The “staff” is just a few kids standing around shooting the bull with each other. Uninterested, unmotivated and lazy. Please do not attempt to buy a bag of ice. It had probably been in there for years, and was dirty... yes. Dirty ice. Unacceptable disgusting place. Boring, unkempt, unclean and just a bad vibe all the way around. They should all be ashamed.. THIS PLACE IS A DUMP and people need to know! Do not stay here! - Alexsinclaire
Oct 2018 - $28.00
We stayed here 2 nights to visit friends in the area. We have stayed here once before when also visiting friends . We called ahead and when we arrived they gave us a choice of different locations both open pt and bi under trees. We chose under trees which was a mistake for this time of the year because it sounded like we were in a hail storm with the acorns falling. The site was a nice fairly levels graveled spot with good FHUs. There were many stations on broadcast tv but no wifi. The roads were asphalt in good condition and easy to navigate if you followed the maps as some tended to figure 8 so much turning. When we left the park about 4:30 Friday PM to meet our friends there were several sites open but they were full when we returned about 10:30 PM. We would stay here again. We were in a 40' mh with a toad. There are many sites in this park , over 200. - JAWS
Sep 2018 - $30.00
This park seems pretty run down in my opinion. There seemed like a lot of full time campers there, with built porches and junk all over their sites. The sites are not paved and aren't level. The sites are all packed in on top of each other. - Gregc2828
Nov 2018 - $20.00
Sites are very tight and turning radius is tight. If we would not have had an end site, we would not have been able to pull in. The only site left was too small for our 32' Class C with a small tow vehicle. Had rained and there was mud everywhere. Sites need added gravel and at least gravel around the hookup areas and extended beyond just where your tires go. - JimBcamps
Sep 2018 - $20.00
Good stopover park, tight turns from freeway in. We were in a 40' Class A towing-barely fit in site; any bigger would have to disconnect. Sites are tight, no tables. OK value for $20 but would not pay more. - Trvl4Evr
Sep 2018 - $20.00
When we called on site availability the phone was picked right up. Upon arrival the office was closed and it was self check-in, no problem. We picked a site and setup. The sites are a bit rough around the edges and are not the most level sites. We had an outside rear tire lift off the ground which I do not care for. But for a one niter this place makes a great stop. There are actually a couple of gas / diesel stations at this exit. Neither the RV Park or stations are mentioned on the blue highway signs. Good fuel prices at the turn towards the RV Park. OTA TV and Verizon were both very good. We would stop again. - Bob and Inga
Oct 2018 - $34.00
The park has a separate section for people staying short term. It was about 5 miles to Athens Al and 25 to Huntsville. A good location right off Hiway 31. A 4 lane highway Padres right in front so there is road noise but it didn't affect us. Plenty of eating places, grocery stores and shopping close by. Check in was quick and efficient. - leciel19
Mar 2018 - $33.00
Swan Creek is more a mobile home than RV park. The overnight sites are in the front near the very busy road. The sites are long and fairly level with about half grass, half broken concrete. The exit off of the concrete is a short angled drop. Why??? We used our air levelers to raise the coach and then drove verrry slowly and miraculously nothing scraped. We saw scrape marks on site 46 ( our site was 47). The WII FI worked but there were many intermittent long pauses. Directv satellite worked fine as there were no trees near our site. Verizon was 4g 3 bars. You pay for your site when you make the reservation and there is no cancellation policy - new one on me. The office is closed on weekends so we never saw or talked to any employees. There are train whistles and traffic noise. And lots of lights - street lights between sites and a very bright "Welcome" light by site 46. We wouldn't stay here again. - Free
Aug 2017 - $32.00
Very nice campground for a 1 night stop over. FHU site that's about 3 mile off I65 north or south. Park manager was ver accommodating and I believe if we needed anything she would have helped. We called approximately 5 hours out and gave us a spot, gave us the option if we didn't like it she had others but that was not necessary. Site was up front and easy in and out. We would definitely stay again passing through. It appears there may be some full timers in the campground however we were separated from them up front. - Dream Coach
Oct 2018 - $30.00
We stopped here for a weekend on our way back home from a fall trip to the north because of the rave of others on this park. The park itself is nice with the lake, marina, golf course, lodge and restaurant but the campground was somewhat of a disappointment. Sites are wooded and set up for privacy but the pads are in poor shape. Mature trees that are braking the pads with the root system. You have to park just right to be able to open your slides and awning, not being able to use the awning. None to little ATT service and wifi. Campground says it has wifi but it doesn't. Over the air TV is spotty and too many trees for satellite. Been to quite a few state parks in Alabama and this one is rated towards the lower end. Think we'll pass on this one next time in the area. - southernsky
Apr 2018 - $27.00
One of the best state parks we've visited. It is very well kept and the layout of campsites are angled for more privacy. The interior roads are asphalt paved and wide enough to easily navigate. However there is a sharp turn as your leaving the A loop. Just take it slow around the curve.
We didn't use shower rooms except during a tornado warning. the local emergency sirens sounded and the ranger began circling the campground with his siren on telling everyone to move to the closet shower building. he then stopped by several times to check on everyone, and give us updates on the storm.
There is a restaurant at the lodge, which is next to the marina, good food and service at a reasonable price. There is also a Day Use section with athletic fields, tennis courts, frisbee golf, etc. you can also have a picnic at one of the shelters there.
We enjoyed our time here and would visit again if we were back in the area. - Our rv journey
May 2017 - $29.00
Beautiful, beautiful park. Lots to do; swimming, boating, hiking, fishing, golfing and very nice restaurant. Large shaded full hookup or primitive sites. Large 4 private stalls and 4 private seat bathhouse in each circle of sites. Can see lots of wildlife; deer, turkey and squirrels. Very pet and child friendly. Nice marina and several places to fish from the banks at the Lake. Our site was C009 and was right on the water. Will go back to this one often.. - Mickey K
Oct 2018 - $20.00
Needed a place to stay near Muscle Shoals awaiting a service appointment. Choices in the area are very limited. About 10 miles from town, this campground is out of the way and quiet on a pretty spit of land along a feeder to the Tennessee River. I had the only "pull-thru" site. Site was level, clean and very large. Power, water and sewer connections were all well placed and worked perfectly. Verizon Cell reception was 2-3 bars and the WiFi reception was good. This park is exactly what I was hoping to for my several day stay. Expect to pay by cash or check. - 2ndRoads
May 2017 - $22.00
We needed a week stay that would be close enough to the Huntsville airport and striking distance to Red Bay. We looked at other options in the area that looked like open parking lots. This campground isn't much more than that since there are no trees around the campsites. But what sold us was the surrounding area. There's a boat launch and a couple of great nature trails along the river and around the rest of the county property. We walked them every day, plus down a neighborhood street on the other side of the river with homes, chickens, horses, fields. The camp hosts were very friendly - gave us information about the surrounding area and received an Amazon package for us. The other campers were also very friendly. There was no picnic table or patio/pad, but that wasn't a bid deal for us. Free WIFI, which was surprisingly strong! We would definitely stay here if passing through the area again. - Roaming Together
May 2017 - $16.00
Quiet campground. Level gravel sites in open area with easy satellite reception. Wifi good, Verizon service 3 bars. Two Individual unisex bathrooms in clean block building. Each bathroom has toilet, sink and shower with cement floor. Campground premesis also has tornado shelter, playground and free boat ramp. Manager lives in home on property and is exceptional. We arrived two days late due to need for brake repair. I had notified him. He was extremely accommodating and never charged us for the missed dates while saving site #1 for us. His wife took us to see two birds nests with baby birds we could easily see (in cedar about 4 ft above ground serface.) - User2477
