Great view, sunrise and sunset. Location to Mobile, Spanish Fort, Daphne all convenient. Staff was very friendly. Hope to go back again, very relaxing. Low water pressure, but you can always fill the tank and use on board pump to overcome. Highly recommend visit to USS Alabama battleship and USS Drum submarine. Amazing to see a glimpse into what those who went before endured so we can have the freedoms we enjoy. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Motorhome.

Stayed 3 nights. We had to move after the first night because site 29 had been booked for the 2nd and 3rd nights. Site 29 on night 1, site 30 on nights 2 and 3. Both sites were fine. The park is very clean, and convenient to Mobile. Will definitely return. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Motorhome.

Would have given it a 10 if not for highway noise. Loved the spacious grass between sites. It is so spread out that nearly every camp site has a bay view. Nice trees too. The pads are level asphalt. Hookups are modern and well engineered. Might need your sewer hose props. The park staff was friendly. Stunning sunrises and sunsets. Saw no ants. Call before you arrive early. I got lectured. Good fences around park and night security. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

USS Alabama battleship park 10 minutes west. Must see. Five Rivers ecological park across highway with great trails and gift shop. Blakeley historical park 15 minutes-last major battle of the Civil War. Gulf beaches 40 minutes. Three seafood houses within three miles west on US 98. Watch for heavy traffic on US 98 during rush hours.

This is a great state park as others have said. Close proximity to good seafood restaurants on the causeway, beautiful sunsets. However, when you are instructed to call ahead for a gate code, you should take it seriously. We got locked out before 6PM and had to wait for someone else to leave so we could re-enter. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Date of Stay: January, 2019 - $38.00
Overall Rating:

Sites are asphalt (parking and sitting areas) and are flat and level. Site spacing is good, better than most private parks. There is a large play field, a fishing pier and a board walk out into the wetlands. There are short hiking trails, mostly folded into a maze in a patch of woods in the park. Good for walking your dog, though. There's no other specified "dog walk" area. The campground is semi-wooded, all pines, but not too thick to limit satellite reception. Water pressure was low at 40psi, but they were repairing some plumbing problems during our stay. There's a boat launch and a very nice launch specifically made for kayaks or canoes designed to make boarding/unboarding safer. There have been Argentine ant problems at this CG in the past, but they seem to have gotten them under control with a campus-wide treatment system; no problem while we were there. Sites have a stand-up grill and a picnic table. There are no fire rings and ground fires are not allowed. The biggest negative for this CG is the road noise from Hwy 98 and I-10. Depending on air density and cloud cover, the noise can be loud enough to make you have to raise your voice while talking outside. It's a good CG for the convenient location between Mobile and Spanish Fort, but should not be considered a "primitive" or "back-to-nature" campground. One curious thing about the CG was a 10 ft. high chain link fence around the property, including the gate. The CG didn't seem to be in a problem area. The gate is controlled by a security code given to you when you check in. Be sure to call ahead if you are going to be arriving late. The approach area for the gate is short; if you are arriving when the gate is closed, you'd better not be longer than about 50 feet or your tail would be stuck out in the road while you are putting in the gate code. This could use some redesign. Overall, a very nice park. Watch for alligators in the warmer months and keep your small unattended pets away from the shoreline there. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

This park is right in the middle of three great seafood restaurants. Felix's Fish Camp - full seafood menu, fair prices. Oyster House Restaurant - best for oysters. Ed's Seafood Shed - best prices.

Large sites. Immaculate park. Great view of Mobile Bay and city in distance. Staff is friendly and very helpful. Park is treating for a chronic ant problem, and we follow their advice and do our own measures. Second time we have been here and no issues whatsoever. Love coming here and will be back. Office closed early but camp host came out to meet us. We took an open site and registered/paid the next morning. Beautiful park on Mobile Bay. Rainy, foggy conditions meant no pretty sunset over the bay. The only negative is constant traffic noise from interstate on one side and major highway on the other. Not very noticeable though with camper closed up for chilly weather. Very friendly staff. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Motorhome.

This is an otherwise beautiful campground except for at least one member of the staff. She was unhelpful and needed a definite attitude adjust. Moreover, she was apparently too lazy to bother relocating us to a better location with the snappy response of being "fully booked." The park remained half-empty all night and the next morning. We fled to this campground to avoid Hurricane Michael; we liked our week stay here and will revisit in the future. 50A power, a different style sewer hookup point (than we're used to) required me to use an old, modified hose. Water pressure was only 22 pounds. Plenty of over the air TV channels, Verizon was strong. Intermittent wifi connection (pad 20). Staffed (daytime), locking gate at night (pass code provided at check-in). Staff made rounds hourly, local police patrolled at least once /day. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

What a gem in the Alabama State Park system! We camped here in a 30-ft motorhome, no towed vehicle. The on-line reservation system was excellent. Arrival off the Battleship Parkway gated entrance was smooth. We were greeted by friendly staff which carried on through the stay with the park hosts. We had site 52 just east of the main bathhouse and laundry facility. The crescent-shaped pull through was huge, paved and level. There are a number of back-in sites right on the bay waters. Every site offers a view of the water, the I-10 bridge and a magnificent sunset if it isn't cloudy. All utilities were modern and efficient. The CG is kept very clean. There are walk-ways over the bayou waters and a very spacious marina. The restrooms and showers are kept clean and there was always hot-water. There are a number of seafood themed restaurants along Battleship Parkway within walking or biking distance. Careful at night, the speed limit is 55 mph. This is a "don't miss" experience if you are in the area. We will go back just as a destination from Florida. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

We stayed in our 25' class c motorhome in this beautiful and small-ish state park right on Mobile Bay. Our site was a back-in on the bay (Site 27). Absolutely spectacular spot to view sunset directly behind downtown Mobile skyline. Nice fishing pier and boardwalk as well as a few short walking trails within the park. Any of the spots along the water will be great. They have plenty of space between sights though nothing between them to create any sort of privacy. We only stayed a couple of days but we could have stayed a couple of weeks. You are a little distance from anything other than some seafood restaurants and the USS Alabama Battleship museum so plan accordingly. There is some talk and warning of Argentine ants but we had no problems. Park seems to be doing a good job with controlling the problem. We would and probably WILL stay here again. The campground was extremely clean. The person checking us in was helpful and efficient. The sites are very widely spaced so there is a feeling of privacy. The sites are paved and level. There are no fire pits but there are tables and grills at each site. There is a lovely view of the bay and nice piers for sunset views. The campground is between I-10 and 90 so there is always some highway noise, but it is not overwhelming. I would definitely stay here again. We camped at Meaher State Park in a Travel Trailer.
