Best part is that it is convenient to downtown. Unfortunately, the few blocks you need to drive from downtown to the RV park are junky, creepy and not very pleasant. Lots of rules. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Go to the Anchorage Market downtown on Saturday and Sunday for more authentic souvenirs than in the gift shops ("made in China").

The best of the worst (they are all bad) in Anchorage. Narrow sites but more room (and less noise) the further back you are. For Motorhomes the pull throughs and many of the back in sites are not level (one guy in a super B had his front wheel 8 inches off the ground) we had a pull through with a 6 inch slope. Ask lots of questions and choose wisely. Also, there is a stream of people that cut through the park we had our BBQ stolen so keep everything locked. That said it is right next to downtown and you can walk into town or the Shipcreek bike/walking path. The road is nicely graveled (sites are not) and the utiltiies worked well. There is no cable but you can get over air, but near the back a couple of signals get somewhat blocked. There are no really good parks in Anchorage so this is the best of the worst. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

WiFi is a joke, AT&T Fair, noise from trains, trucks, etc. as others have described. Not in a good part of town, although close to downtown. We were in the first site next to the road. Site was so unlevel I couldn't have carried enough blocks. Off the ground. Only met one campground personnel and he complained about the way we parked our toad although it was not in the way. About the only good point is that it had enough gravel so it probably wouldn't be muddy in the rain, plenty of drainage. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

The previous reviews are all correct (tight sites, trains, homeless, although not in the park). However, it depends on what you need from a park. We needed a place to stay before turning in our rental RV early the next morning. This place was great for that. Clean showers. Friendly staff. Convenient location to Anchorage. If you are looking for an Alaska nature experience, this is not the place. We saw lots of fishermen for the Salmon tournament. It was convenient for that as well. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

If you like being able to reach out your RV window and shake hands with your neighbor then this is the park for you! Not me! Sites are tiny! Laundry has only a few machines that actually work so expect a long wait. Wifi is a joke! No bandwidth for the simplest of Internet tasks. And the trains come roaring through frequently shaking everything. Avoid this park. Zero value. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

Probably the best campground in Anchorage, but one of the worst in North America. Unlevel gravel sites. Constant noise from trains with train tracks right next to RV Park, Airplane noise due to direct approach to downtown airport is over the campground, truck noise from the shipyard less than 1 block away, and the ever present sea gulls that begin their morning squawk at 3AM. Anchorage homeless situation out of control and homeless shelter in close proximity to campground. No place to walk dogs. Sites are ridiculously tight, unable to use awning without it touching the rig next to us. Many sites without picnic tables. Staff is selective in enforcing rules. i.e. Some folks allowed to change oil on site, others were not. Staff not very polite or friendly. Bathrooms were not kept tidy and clean - garbage cans overflowing. Laundry facilities were acceptable. We stayed here one week while in the area. WiFi not reliable. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

We made reservations for this RV park several months ago after reading good reviews. However, when we arrived we were not happy with the location. It must be the noisiest RV park we have ever stayed in during the past 12 years. It is located in an industrial area of Anchorage right next to railroad tracks. There are about 5-6 trains a day using the track and each time the train horn is loudly blown several times right opposite the RV park. The worst is a freight train at 4:00 a.m. which blows a horn and rocks the RV. If that wasn't bad enough, there are small airplanes taking off right over the park as well as large commercial jets. Yes, the RV park is located within walking distance of downtown, but the noisy neighborhood cancels that advantage in our opinion. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Have stayed here on two different occasions over the past month. The park is a great location, no question about that. However, the visits were almost polar opposites due primarily to the side of the park where we stayed. During the first stay, we were in one of the few pull-thru's located in the back of the park. Wifi worked reasonably well, we could hear the trains go by but it wasn't too disturbing. We were close to neighboring RV's as fairly typical in Alaska so it was acceptable. On the second stay, we were placed in a back-in at the front of the park right by the entrance. Wifi was nonexistent and the spaces were probably the tightest we've stayed, even by Alaska standards. The worst part is that the trains blow their horns while going through the intersection that is located right by the park entrance. The horns will make you sit up and hold your ears. I will stay here again primarily because of the location but I will ensure that I have a guaranteed spot in the back of the park or I'll consider staying somewhere else. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

The level back-in gravel sites are very tight for a big rig. We were lucky not to have someone on both side with slides but we talked to others that said this park had larger sites than the other with FHUs. The utilities worked well and the Wi-Fi was good most of the time. We were able to pickup a couple of over the air TV channels but they would drop out every time a plane would fly by which was a lot during the day. There are railroad tracks within a few feet of the park and their horn will make you jump when they go by but we didn't hear any at night. The park was easy to get to and easy to get around in. We would stay here again if we were in this area and needed FHU. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

If you like hiking there are a few nearby, we hiked the Wolverine trail and found the view at the peak breathtaking. The Ship Creek and Coastal trails are easy and very scenic. Checkout the craft show on the weekends.

We have been traveling Alaska for the better part of a month and Ship Creek is by far the worst campground we've stayed at. We were assigned a gravel site with small patches of unmaintained grass close to the grounds entrance with virtually no room to sit outside and relax. The park is located in an unattractive small industrial area adjacent to railroad tracks and a road crossing. The required blast of the train horn when approaching the road crossing got a bit old. At the other end of the campground is an area of homeless campsites and an RV rental repair and maintenance facility. For us, this further detracted from what we hoped would be a pleasant stay. The only positive worth mentioning is that campground is in close proximity to downtown; a 10 minute walk away. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

We can't expect much of the park located at downtown Anchorage. So most important thing is all hookup run well and clean shower and toilet. The bathroom are lock with pass code and have male and female bathroom. The site are really tight. This park is located next to train station. The train run not too frequently but it is really loud. The office provide free hot coffee and tea. Location are 10 minutes from downtown. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.

Nice folks running this park. Very courteous. The previous reviews are accurate. Wi-Fi worked in the park for 2 of the 6 days we were there then quit. Its was available only sitting at the front door of the office. Mentioned it to management but they said its the way it is. Noise from the RR and nearby airport are issues here. Homeless people moved through the park one evening trying to sell used coolers. Probably the best thing going in Anchorage for camping though. Convenient to many Anchorage attractions. Overall Rating:

Stayed both here and at the Golden Nugget (GN). The park has older infrastructure and is located on Alaska RR land, so not much incentive to improve. Compared to GN the roads are much wider and the site slots are angled so easy to get into, but they are narrower. Setting is nicer than GN, but neighborhood is industrial and lots of homeless running around (though the park will call the RR police if one enters). Easy walk to downtown. At least one freight train a night goes by and tracks are right behind the park. For class Cs a good park, for anyone with large units and slides it is just like GN not much room to move around. But in Anchorage you really only have two choices and this could be the lesser of 2 evils. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

This park is plain and rather expensive. However, it is in downtown Anchorage. The location is convenient. We could walk or ride a bike to Ship Creek, the Alaska RR station, the Saturday Market-Festival, and the Alaska Experience Theater. That same convenient location does make it noisy with the train and the sea gulls. The sites are very close together and there is not a picnic table at every one. The showers are clean for the use they get. However, the managers seem to clean them when they wish. No time is posted and on 2 days they were trying to clean while 6 men were shaving, showering or using the toilet at 9am. The park is fenced for security and ringed with trees for privacy and shade. On the hot afternoons, our RV was still comfortable, but not sure how the ones in the middle of the park felt with no shade. The laundry is the standard $2 a machine and normally busy. The office staff is helpful and there is a lot of tourist information available. This is the place to stay to see Anchorage, but do not expect an RV resort. We camped at Anchorage Ship Creek RV Park in a Motorhome.
