Booked a King Salmon charter at the last minute on the opening weekend. Space was at a premium and the only site available was in a crowded overflow spot very close to a tent and the cabins. Turns out our guide the next morning lives in the tent. He provided the 4 a.m. wake up; with coffee! The staff were all excellent. The fishing trip was phenomenal fun and very well executed. Walked around the campsites and noticed everyone appeared to be happy, friendly and comfortable. Our guest from the lower 48 stated the trip of the year, and he had just floated the Grand Canyon the week before. Although the entrance access is tight and the freshwater and tank flush are inconvenient, the place is a gem. River noise helps mute highway and other camp sounds. If you are hoping to enjoy some Alaskan hospitality, some real enthusiasm for fishing on a fantastic river and a brief getaway from the bigger summer crowds, this is a great place. We have re-booked and have other couples coming with us this year. The vast majority of campers we talked with were all from Alaska. Many had been coming here for years. I can only imagine it will be a grand event as we have a reserved site on the riverfront this time. We camped at Klutina Salmon Charters and Campground in a Motorhome.

If you enjoy salmon fishing and sharing fish stories, this is a great place to do so. The campground and fishing charters are run by a family who really seem to enjoy their work, clients and each other.

Campground is on the edge of the Klutina River which is a glacial fed river so be prepared for lots of fine slit. Sites are close to each other, and also close to the river. There is an outhouse for a bathroom, potable water hookup at the office and sewer dump as the local fuel station (ask for key at campground desk before driving over). Ice cream socials on Tuesday and Potlucks on Saturday.

We were very surprised to find 30amp service, thought it would only by 15. Sites have tables and several have fire rings or fire pits. Our site was an odd shape but worked to our advantage.

Staff ready to explain various ways to salmon fish and we took a King Salmon charter. We camped at Klutina Salmon Charters and Campground in a Truck Camper.

Overall Rating:

We have stayed at various times throughout the red salmon run. The sites are arranged so that most have river view and all are within a 150 feet of the river. There is electric, but water is via a water station. There is a dump site at the gas station next door which is free to those staying at the camp. There is a fire pit and picnic table at each site. There is plenty of space for slides and lots of trees and shade. There is a small store with basic fishing supplies, but no provisions. The staff are helpful and both king and red salmon charters are available on site. Our last trip on 16 August and as the red run was dying down, there were very few campers and we spent a glorious evening grilling fresh fish over an open fire. We camped at Klutina Salmon Charters and Campground in a Motorhome.
