We stayed 4 nights in Teklanika and 3 nights here. If I was going to do it all over again I would stay all 7 nights in Riley Creek. The campground is located near the entrance and close to the main activity center. The sites are well spaced and fairly private. The access roads are good but some sites are more difficult to enter. Sites vary quite a bit, get here early for best selection. We arrived about 10 AM and many of the previous campers had left. There is a laundry and shower facility adjacent to the Bear loop near the store. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

It is not possible to reserve a specific site, only a specific site type (A, B, C). A sites are supposed to be able accommodate RVs between 30 to 40 feet, B sites are supposed to be able to accommodate RVs less than 30 feet, and C sites are walk-in tent sites. The campground consists of three loops (bear, wolf, and caribou) and each loop contains a mixture of A and B sites. Bear loop appears to be the newest and contains the biggest and most level sites. About 15 of those sites in bear loop can accommodate 40 foot RVs. There are very few sites in the Wolf and Caribou loops that can accommodate RVs larger than 35 feet. Each A and B site has a picnic table, fire pit, and tent area. Generator hours are from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM and from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM. Quiet hours are from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM. The campground is located near the runway inside the national park so there is occasional plane or helicopter noise and it is also near the train depot inside the park so there is also occasional train horn noise. The Mercantile has showers, laundry, firewood, and some groceries. A three lane dump station adjacent to the Mercantile. The campground is just inside the entrance to the park and is conveniently located near the visitor center, bus depot, and train depot, and there are numerous trails and a bike path in the general area. The Mercantile and visitor center have WiFi. We had good coverage on AT&T and Verizon. We were not able to tune any over-the-air TV channels. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

If you have a bigrig, arrive by noon. While you can reserve an A site, you can't reserve a double wide A site (like 22). If you need a wide/deep site arrive early, like right after 11am, and hope you find one.
But it's a great campground. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

We were looking for a place to stay that would be convenient to the services, buses and hiking trails in Denali National Park. We're self-contained and don't use the facilities except for an occasional shower. We stayed in early June in our 25 foot MH. This is a very nice CG centrally located to the park amenities near the entrance area. We arrived on a Saturday afternoon without reservations. The CG was full that night. We were able to reserve for the next 4 nights. The campsites are arrayed in 3 loops. Reservations are for a <40 site (A) or <30 site (B). After checking in at the Mercantile OR Bus Depot, drive through the park and select an open A or B site. The sites are gravel and most are flat or need a bit of leveling. They're tucked into the trees with good shade and privacy. There are clean token-op showers at the Mercantile - $4.50 for 10 minutes. There's also a clean laundromat at the Mercantile - $2 wash and $2 dry. There's good ATT and Verizon cell service throughout the CG. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The CG is a short walk from the Mercantile, a gift/convenience store. The bus depot is less than a mile. The Visitor Center is 1.5 miles. There is a free shuttle from the CG to the Visitor Center. The Visitor Center hosts many interesting exhibits and 2 films. The staff there are very helpful for planning front- or back-country trips. There a touristy village just outside the park with restaurants, shops, convenience stores, hotels and tour companies.

Very nice National Park Camp Ground. All roads and sites are asphalt. Sites are level, well laid out, lots of trees, private and good sized. There is a combination of clean flush and pit toilets conveniently scattered throughout the camp ground. Showers are available at the check in office, $4.50 for ten minutes. Showers are well used, thus not very clean. Must be cleaned only once a day, when they close at 8:30 pm. Free water and dump station near check in office. ATT and Verizon work well. MAKE RESERVATIONS far in advance for CG and shuttle bus - period. . I made mine bus resrvations 3 months ahead, could not get the first request and the last 4 seats on the second request. We saw several people turned away during CG check in. You cannot "boondock" in the park. It's a several mile drive to any private RV parks. Very Good, would stay there again. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Purchase the "green" bus pass for $60. There is no need to purchase the $200 package tour. The shuttle bus drivers are courteous, knowledgeable, and accommodating. Either way it is a 12-13 hour round trip.

2nd time we've stayed here in 5 years. Nice campground, good access to everything in the park. Many sites not real level. Be sure to come prepared with everything you need because to buy food or dry goods in or just outside the park is obscenely expensive. Milk $6/half gal., 12 grain bread $7.39, Stouffers entree which sells for $2- $2.50 in Walmart is $6.99 here. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

We stayed at Riley Creek for three nights, and would have loved to stay longer! This campground is centrally located and convenient to all of the offerings at the entrance area for Denali. The sites are well spaced with a good amount of privacy. The water fill stations are great, and even though the showers cost money, they were well worth it! The only negative was the expensive fire wood!! ($10 a bundle!) We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

The shuttle bus stop is convenient to the campground as are biking/walking trails, so there was no need to drive our truck. The wifi at the Riley Creek Mercantile didn't work very well, but excellent wifi at the Visitor's Center.

We booked very early online with the Senior Pass. Got our 'A' space (longer site) reservation. 'B' spaces are much shorter. Staff on arrival is excellent. We had 1 night at Riley, 3 at Teklanika, and 1 more at Riley. They booked us in at all 3 stays at the same time. The Shuttle Pass is a super deal. Sites are a bit close but very clean. You drive through and pick any open site matching your 'A' or 'B' ticket. We took a Handicap spot right by the restrooms. Gennie hours are 8-10am and 4-8pm ONLY and they mean it!! Roads could use some attention but not terrible. Would stay here again. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

First the ugly: As mentioned in another review, the access roads in the campground loops are in deplorable shape. Numerous, DEEP, water-filled potholes abound on all roads just begging for a few scoops of gravel. Next the bad: The camp sites are very tight. Thankfully when we arrived there was nobody in the site across from us so I was able to maneuver the Airstream into the site. Some sites were more spacious than others. Our site was barely adequate to accommodate the trailer, and I had to park the truck perpendicular on the side of the road. I've spent summers working in other National Parks with far better campgrounds. Next, be advised, there is a train station in the park. As a rule, I'm not one to be bothered by train noise, but the station is practically next door. Very loud the few times a day the train comes through. And lastly, of the parks we've visited over the years, I felt Denali was the least "visitor friendly". Perhaps this is because without riding one of the many park buses (for a fee), one really can't see much, and believe me, this is a very big park. Now at last, The Good: Denali is a beautiful area. Lot's of good hiking. The sled dog kennels are worth visiting. Honestly, overall I was somewhat disappointed. I doubt I'll be back in my lifetime anyway. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This campground has fairly nice sites except that most sites are short. It was probably constructed when RVs weren't as long as the typical RV is now. The restrooms are clean as well as the campground in general. The rate of $9/night was with the Senior pass discount.

The interior roads are very bad with numerous deep pot holes. When filled with water, you can't see what you are getting into. Even a little repair would be helpful!

There is Wi-Fi available at the Wilderness Access Center as well as washers and dryers. The campground is very convenient to the bus tours that are available.

There is a dump site available, but there are no hook-ups in the campground.

Reservations can be made, but not for a specific site. When you get to the park you have your choice of any site not yet taken, therefore it is wise to arrive early to get a site that will accommodate your vehicles.

We would probably stay here again. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

The bad part first, my poor rating is for the horrible road conditions in the campground and the very, very tight RV parking pads in the campsites. We are a 30' long motorhome and a lot of the "B" campsites are much too small for us. Very few of the "A" campsites are large enough for a 40 footer and very tight for 35 foot RVs. "B" sites are for under 30' and "A" sites are for over 30'. About the reservation fee mentioned in the 2015 reviews, I made 3 separate "online" campground reservations in early June and was not charged a reservation fee. Perhaps there is a charge for phone reservations but not for online reservations. There is pretty good separation between campsites for privacy. However, when I compare this campground to staying in one of the RV parks where all I see out my windows is the RV crammed in next to me, this campground is great! I would stay here over an RV park anytime. We spent 7 nights here. The $11 rate is for the 1/2 off senior pass. Regular rates are $22 for "B" sites & $28 for "A" sites. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Never stayed in campground without hookups before but we really liked this one. It snowed while we were in Denali. Sites were level and spacious if you get Bear Loop and A sites. We looked in Wolf Loop and they were not as level or big. Would stay here again if we come to Alaska. Showers are pay in Store, however they are worth it. Rate is for a 'B' site and the 6$ reservation fee is not factored in. All sites we checked were a bit sloping, so some levelling equipment is needed. It's dry camping but there are flush toilets and hot showers available. Also a dump station free to use whether camping in Riley or not. The laundry house is where you need to go to have some WiFi. Can't comment on the quality, we didn't try. Sites are surrounded by trees and shrubs which makes for good privacy. Very quiet day and night. A nice trail leads to the Visitor Center and the adjacent gift shop and restaurant. We will stay again when coming back to Denali NP. The best feature of this campground is location. The dirt back-in level sites are large but we thought the price was high for no hook-ups. They give discounts to senior card holders but not the regular annual pass holders. It is easy to get to but the dirt roads in the campground are tight for a 40' motorhome and in poor shape with lots of potholes. We camped at Riley Creek Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We saw several people turned away because they didn't have reservations. Easy access to lots of hiking paths from campground. You can only drive 15 miles into the park, if you want to go farther you have to take a pricey bus tour.
