Access to the park is easy just off of Bow Valley Trail. It is easy to find as it it right next to the Canmore Information Center. Check is was quick and easy as self registration was in effect this time of year. Parameter road is paved and some branch roads are hard packed gravel. Our site #3 was a paved back-in that came with a fire pit, table, 15 and 30 Amp power but no water or sewer. Free dump station available next door at the Canmore Information Center. Sites are close and separated by a strip of grass. During the peak season this park is very busy. We arrived mid September and had no problem getting a site. We found that, even off season, the highway noise was not pleasant and the main train line runs just across the road close enough for us to feel the ground shake. We did not use the washrooms but had a peak in. They appeared clean but a bit on the run down side. Firewood and ice as well as a few other small items were for sale in the very poor excuse for a store. Lots hiking, biking, climbing and other outdoor activities close by. A McDonalds is within very easy walking distance and a few other eateries are close by. We did not feel that we receive good value for our stay. We will not return. We camped at Wapiti Campground in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Access to the Legacy bicycle trail to Banff is right next door. It is a paved multi use path that mostly follows the course of the Trans Canada Highway. Views are amazing. If you are up to a little more of a difficult round trip you can return via the Goat Creek Mountain Bike trail. It runs behind Rundle Mountain to the Spray Lake Road. The Spray Lake Road has a gravel surface and it can get narrow in spots.

Very tight and crowded. The 15 amp electric had no receptacle cover and mounted on a 4x4 wooden post. Just be aware, it could be unsafe. Limited office hours. Would not return. We camped at Wapiti Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

Wapiti is one of two in-town campgrounds that are part of the 5 campgrounds in Bow Valley Provincial Park. It is typical of a municipal campground. Sites are close together but level, and each has a picnic table and fire pit. Most fire rings are very close to the RV pad, so keep your fires small. There are washrooms, showers, and a laundry room with one washer and dryer (wash & dry $2 each); fortunately it is open 24 hrs a day. Firewood is available ($10/ bundle, $35 for 4 bundles). The condition of the main entry road make the speed bumps redundant.

Take the third of 3 exits into Canmore when coming from the east/Calgary, first exit when coming from Banff. It is located next to the Alberta tourism, which has free WiFi. Next to the campground is a Petro Canada that sells diesel. Tenting sites, that are nestled in a treed area, are $27, E sites are $37. We camped at Wapiti Campground in a Fifth Wheel.

The park is between the highway and the train tracks. No dump station but you can dump at the Visitors Centre next door. All you get is 15 amp power for your fee. We won't camp here again unless we're desperate. We camped at Wapiti Campground in a Motorhome.

I was able to select a site first before registering. Water available from a tap near site 3. First site chosen (#3) was very unlevel so chose another one (#1). The electrical pedestal cover plate was off exposing the connection to the elements. The campground manager was friendly enough, but he could have shown more sense when burning a pile of wood in his fire ring and smoking us out. There was noise from both the Trans Canada highway and the trains nearby. There is no dump station at this campground. Go to the Travel Alberta Info Centre next door. I would not go back to this campground if in the area again. We camped at Wapiti Campground in a Motorhome.

This is a city (Canmore) owned campground just outside the boundary of Banff National Park and known only to locals. It is certainly worth a try if the other main campground is full. Canmore is a great place to visit in the Banff National Park. Even though there is no sewer dump within the park, it is next door to the Visitor Center which does have a free sewer available. Physical address is 100 Ray McBride St., Canmore, Alberta. It is open from May 1 through October 15 each year. There are 47 RV sites and 36 tent sites. Additional contact number is (866) 366-2267. We camped at Wapiti Campground in a Motorhome.
