I'm glad we went out of our way to stay here. The sites are of varying lengths. It's a very beautiful and unique location. Running off solar in the non-generator area, we had the misfortune of hitting the 3 unusually hot days in mid March, but we survived. ;) It doesn't help that you can't safely keep an awning out with the unpredictable winds. We loved how the natural vegetation surrounded most of the sites. I would absolutely stay here again (during the cool season). We had a good Verizon signal but could understandably pick up only one OTA channel, and it was of course Spanish-speaking. Be VERY careful when walking your dog on the loop around the campground - turn away for a second and they'll have something stuck in them! We camped at Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

I stayed for 3 nights in the non-generator section. If you dislike generator noise as much as I do, you'll want to get as close to the tent section as possible. They have a presentation from one of the rangers nearly every night. I didn't try the solar shower, because it was cold and not a lot of sun at the time. All in all, this is one of the nicest "primitive" campgrounds I've stayed at. I only knocked off a point because of some minor leveling problems. We camped at Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

I did have cell service, but no data, at my campsite. Wi-fi is available at the visitor center. Dogs are allowed on a couple trails around the campground, including the one to the visitor center. This is the best place to base from when visiting the National Park.

Overall Rating:

This park is very beautiful, a pleasure to visit, with extensive hiking trails, and wonderful informative presentations by Rangers. More of the park has been reopened, and we felt very safe there; even on hiking trails. Our site was spacious, with a cement pad, cement patio, picnic table, and barbecue. The showers and restrooms were so clean, although the shower water is solar heated - so be ready for a cool shower. The Rangers were very friendly and helpful. We camped at Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Beautiful, remote sites in the Sonoran desert: paved, private and pull-through, each with picnic table and grill. If you value nature and quiet over amenities, this is the place for you. Spotless restrooms with camp sinks. Hiking, scenic drives and ranger programs. I had a decent ATT 3G signal, but my husband kept getting a Mexican service, so be careful if you use your phone. If you are worried about the location being right on the border (it is), we saw Border Patrol all over the place on our drive down from Phoenix and over to Tucson. Our rate reflects Senior Pass discount. We camped at Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

This is a lovely national park with a great Junior Ranger program and a wonderful setting. The place was packed with RVers when we were there, only some of whom were friendly. Obviously, many folks come and stay the entire winter and have solar panels and/or generators. The sites were very close together for a national park, but the space was adequate. Our only major complaint was that the corners were a little tight for a big rig, and it was hard to turn around when we made a wrong turn. Somewhere in the course of our drive to our space, we picked up a cholla fruit in one of our tires. Those are some serious needles if they can stick into a truck tire. As with most national parks, this one has no hookups and minimal restrooms. The park hosts were absolutely wonderful—friendly and fun. We camped at Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

A beautiful desert location. Dry camp sites, first come, first served. Generators allowed from 8 to 10 in the morning, and 4 to 6 in the afternoon, otherwise, just the silence of the desert. We took the free van tour on the Ajo Mountain drive, and had two enthusiastic rangers talk about the cactus, wildflowers and birds in the park. This road is only partially paved, so why take the car when someone else will drive? Gas, groceries and restaurants in Ajo, twenty minutes driving north. We had Verizon cell on extended service, but the aircard did not work. Not a perfect ten only because of lack of hook-ups. We camped at Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.
