Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful campground in the middle of the Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument. The Sonoran desert landscape is breathtaking. If you look at the map of the campground it looks awful, like just a big parking lot. But it's MUCH nicer than it would appear on paper. Like most national sites, there are no hookups or wi-fi, although we did get two bars on Verizon, enough to use data. There are three sections: generator friendly, no generators, and tent sites. We stayed in the generator section and everyone obeyed the running times of 8-10 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. The sites are all pull throughs with a concrete pad. Most should be long enough for all but the largest big rigs. There are no reservations but it supposedly "never fills up". Still, I would have an alternative in mind if I had a really big rig because there's no guarantee one of THOSE will be available. Not all sites are totally level either. We had to try a couple before we found one that worked without using blocks. There is a nice amount of space between the sites and plenty of desert foliage to give a nice feeling of privacy. There are six restroom buildings, three with showers. The one by us was very nice, clean, bright, and modern. Didn't use the shower, but it too looked very nice. It's a "solar heated" shower, though, so you better use it during the day in order to be sure there'll be hot water. There is water and a dump station available. There is a nice hiking trail all around the campground and lots of other trails and two scenic drives in the monument. Gas and a convenience store are available in Lukeville, 5 miles away, but I suggest you stock up on whatever you need in Ajo unless you are planning on crossing the border into Mexico. Loved this place and would definitely come back again. We camped at Twin Peaks Campground (NPS Campground) in a Truck Camper.
