This is a great value for a site so close to an urban area of 4 million. Hiking and bike trails are abundant. We came for a "star party" of star gazing lectures and activities, which is great if you're prepared for cold and dark. Most sites are reasonably level and accessible, and most have hookups. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Truck Camper.

Tips for other Campers:

Superstition Mountains are an awesome sight. Night sky is dark enough toward east for casual stargazing, lights of Phoenix drown out the west.

We enjoyed our time at this campground. Beautiful mountain views. Campsites only include water and electric, but a dump station is available. Campground is near the old mining town of Goldfield that has shops and restaurants and about 7 miles from shopping. Campsites are large with good seperation between sites. Many hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty available throughout the park. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is probably my best ever camping experience. It was my second visit and this time we stayed a week--longest we have ever stayed at one place. The views are beautiful. The state park is well run. The employees as well as the volunteers are helpful and they are oh so proud of the park. There is a dry camping loop which serves as an over flow area. Most of the electric sites are large and private. The newly renovated loop (75-104) was originally the overflow loop. Water and electric has recently been added. This loop, and only this loop, is tight and crowded. We were so disappointed when we saw our site. However, it had a wonderful view and the site was still much bigger than most private park sites. Next time we will reserve earlier and get a more private site on another loop. A bath house has been planned for our loop but has not been funded yet. It was a long trek to the bath house. No place is perfect but Lost Dutchmen is about as close as it gets. Hiking is wonderful in the spring! We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

You can now make reservations up to a year in advance. Feb-April is the busiest time. You definitely need to make a reservation even with a tent for the peak period. Bathrooms can be a far walk. On weekends there can be a long wait at the dump. We dumped the night before we left.

Excellent park as others have written. Great views, great hiking, lots of privacy in most of the sites. We were in site 11 and this loop has smaller sites and less privacy than some of the higher-numbered loops (as well as no hook-ups). The place is huge and could be a long walk to the bathroom for some areas. We have stayed here and at nearby Usery Mountain and the parks are very similar in their amenities, camping experience and closeness to services in town, but Lost Dutchman is quite a bit further from Phoenix. I would return to either park again without hesitation. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Good Apple Market in Apache Junction is a health-food store with incredibly low prices on produce and supplements, and only about 5 miles from Lost Dutchman. The Superstition Mountain Museum, about a mile from the park, is a wonderful little museum and a great value for $5.

Loved the Park and have stayed here a couple of times over the past few years. Problem I have is that the washroom/showers are disgusting. I have complained in the past but got no response so will not stay here again. Showers are filthy with hair balls stuck to the walls and floors. Fecal material on the benches, mold in the tile and just filthy. We have stayed at almost all of the State Parks in Arizona and this one has to have the dirtiest washroom/shower facilities. I even took pictures over our two week stay and sent them to Parks. No response. Will not stay at this Park again. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wow, we loved it here. The campground itself is well laid out, with sites spaced far enough away from each other to afford good privacy. The park is beautiful, including great views of Superstition Mountain from just about anywhere. Lots of hiking trails ranging from short walks to arduous, multi-hour climbs in adjacent Tonto National Forest (which includes Superstition Mountain). Moreover, the park's staff were exceedingly helpful when I discovered it was physically impossible for me to get into the site I had reserved online because of the size of our rig (see tips). The park manager himself came over and assessed the situation; he agreed and graciously offered that we stay the night in the (dry-camping) overflow while he tried to find a solution for the remainder of our stay. The next morning at 8:00, a park staff knocked on our door and explained that they had found us a suitable, non-reservable spot and were holding it for us for the remainder of the week. We moved and had a wonderful time during the following days. They even refunded us the rate difference between our reserved site and the overflow site for the first night despite the whole thing being pretty much my mistake. Not only will we make it a point to stay here again, I also wish to highlight the park staff's outstanding level of professionalism and helpfulness. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be wary of the new loop (sites 75-104) if you're in a bigger rig. Many are not suitable despite being described as very long on the reservation website; they may be very acute U-type pull-throughs, or be at such a sharp angle to the (quite narrow) road as to be impossible to back into. Site #93 was such a case for our 40' fifth-wheel with long-bed dually combination..

This is one of the prettiest parks we stay in. The Saguaro Cactus are plentiful and the view of Superstition Mountain is awesome. Very friendly hosts and grounds keepers. Very clean, paved sites and roads. Walking and hiking paths throughout the area, all the way up Superstition Mountain for the very robust. Close to restaurants and shopping, but the feeling of being far away. We loved this park. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Been coming here for years. Some of the nicest people we have ever met. Sites are clean, level, and looking at the Superstition Mountains are just great. The town of Gold field is within site and people may not like the train whistle that they blow when the train pulls out of the station but it doesn't bother us. Will stay here again We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Travel Trailer.

This is a beautiful setting with wonderful sunsets, red rocks, and attractive desert vegetation. Very quiet. Nearly a perfect park. I would give this a 10 except no sewers or wifi. There is a clean and easy to use dump site. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.

Great spot, big sites, handles big rigs really well. The sunsets and scenery here are just killer. Nice long pads, good water pressure, etc. One thing though, this campground can be windy given its spot at the base of the Superstition Mountains. Great value for the price. Would come back here for sure! We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Beautiful park with large, well separated sites. About one third of the sites have water/electric, the rest are dry. Good showers available. Very quiet at night. Verizon signal is weak. I recommend you use a satellite map when choosing your site because some sites have the sitting area facing the road because a wash drops off behind the site. Those sites have no privacy at all. Excellent trails right in the park. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We enjoyed our time at this campground. Beautiful mountain views. Campsites only include water and electric, but a dump station is available. Campground is close to an old mining town (Goldfield) with shops and restaurants. Campsites are large and had some distance from fellow campers. Hiking trails were available throughout the park. We had no issue getting a DirecTV and Verizon 4G signal. Freeway access and grocery stores is about 20 minutes away. We would camp here again. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful setting in the Superstition Mountains. Spacious sites with picnic table and fire pit. All sites with hookups had reservations. They have an overflow area, dry camping, no reservations there. Clean showers and bathrooms, but very busy. Lots of hiking trails and close to Apache Junction shopping. We would come back. What a gem! This is a very well maintained State Park, with very friendly and helpful staff at check in. Roads and sites are paved. Our site was level, very long and very wide, big rig access was good. Quiet, with privacy and space around the RV, plenty of space for the towed. Picnic table, fire ring and grill all in a wonderful desert setting, with incredible views to the Superstition Mountains, the Hosts were constantly cleaning and raking around the sites, they do a great job of keeping the Park immaculate. The bathrooms were clean. Pet friendly and lots of wonderful trails to walk your pet. No WiFi but cell was good. Safeway and Bashas' are about 5 miles down the road and there are a  couple of restaurants about 5 minutes from the Park. We were here during the week when it was quiet, but we were told that it gets very busy at the weekend.  We would stay here again. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.
