This is probably my favorite campground in Arizona, in the foothills of the awesome Superstition Mountains. There are good, paved interior roads; spacious, mostly level, paved sites; with impressive mountain and desert views. Campground is clean and well-maintained. There are easy hiking trails within the Park, and trails up into the Superstitions for the more adventurous. Shopping, restaurants, etc. are only about 5 miles away, in Apache Junction. The campground was full the whole time we were there, with quite a few in overflow. I'd recommend a reservation well in advance, at least in the Winter. The only negative I saw is a shortage of restroom/shower facilities - only two buildings for 130-plus campsites. If you're not self-contained, this could be a problem. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Absolutely breath taking! Had an absolutely amazing experience and wonderful staff! Very friendly! I just wish there was full hookup, but they do have a dump station! Has clean restrooms and showers. Sites are sunny and open, and the surface is asphalt with a fire ring and picnic table. Site 92 was a very nice with amazing views. Was able to walk out our door to a trail head! We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a really nice state park campground. The staff is very nice, the interior roads are wide enough for easy navigation, sites are pretty level and good size. There are hiking trails that lead to the boundary with the Superstition Mountain wilderness and also a fairly moderate and fun MTB trail around the perimeter of the campground. Waking up with the sun behind the Flatiron is a real treat. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We have been coming to this park for thirty years. Have always loved it and considered the facilities as basic but clean. This visit we have seen a huge drop in the cleanliness of the bathrooms and especially the showers. This trip so far (12 days) and the showers have the same hair, cobwebs and desbris. It is amazing as this park has 26 hosts and abundant Rangers also. Possibly because so many people that everyone thinks someone else will do the cleaning. We love the Arizona State Parks but there is something wrong here. Other AZ State Parks are very clean and everything gets done with far fewer hosts. We will come back but advice to everyone is to complain and also maybe shower and use the facilities inside your RV until things improve here. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We 'were' regulars and have enjoyed this park quite a bit over the years. There is a new manager there that has decided to get rid of many waste receptacles as well as some other head scratching changes. Not for the better from what we can tell. We were told that another new rule is no checking in before check in time, even if your site is empty from the night before. We challenged that rule with the corporate office after being forced to turn our huge rig around a very tight spot after being denied check in...to an empty, clean site. Further we were told to go park in a local business parking lot to wait till check in time. The business was not pleased. I do believe they got things straightened out after corporate got involved. The next morning people were checking in as early as 9AM. Hopefully the new manager will not totally spoil the park. Fingers crossed, but so far it is discouraging. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful State RV park situated just under the Superstition Mountains. Found it unbelievable that everything was so green, considering it was the desert. We stayed at two sites (79&57) while there. Both were very nice and plenty of space between other RVs. Both were pull-thru sites, with 57 having the longer paved drive as well as a larger site. Both were full hookup. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice clean decently spaced sites, great views, okay bathroom, decent price, close to town for all your needs. We strayed in the no hookup sites by mistake, didn't notice it when I made reservations. No hookups is fine for us as we have solar, what I didn't care for was the generators many others use but I guess that's my problem, just something to keep in mind. The showers could use some work, getting dated and not very clean, even if you are the first in after the volunteers get done. Overall I think if I had gotten a site around the campgrounds perimeter we would have liked it better, the generator noise was a turnoff for us. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A great State Park with roomy sites, awesome Superstition mountain views, and lots of wildlife. Good, paved interior roads, and mostly level, paved sites. Plenty of trails, from easy to challenging. Lots to do in the Park and nearby. The only negatives: Not enough restrooms/showers; if you don't use the one in your RV you might have a lengthy walk. Only one dump station; two can dump at once but there can be a wait. Campgrounds were full the 2 weeks we were here - reserve well in advance to get a site. We would definitely stay here again. Amazing views of the Superstition Mountains, clean bathrooms, private large showers, plenty of space between sites. Natural vegetation provides privacy. We saw rabbits & lots of quail at our site. During the day you can hear the train from nearby Gold Field but we didn't mind. There are trails throughout the park. It is located close enough to town to get food, shop, etc but far enough away. Beautiful place! We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Besides the natural beauty of the place, we were especially impressed with the staff and volunteers. The approach to the park is clearly marked and ready to find and get into. Upon driving up to the Park office to check in, the staff comes out to your rig to get you checked in and oriented. It was quick and effortless. When a nearby camper left, the volunteers were there within minutes to check the site and rake the gravel. There are individual trash bins at each site and recycle bins are nearby and at many locations.

The restrooms were very clean and warm! They are conveniently located; There were two within yards from our spot. It was down to the 20's F overnight. The air-dry blowers seemed to take air directly from outside without warming, so that was chilly. The showers were roomy enough, warm and good water pressure, but felt dark and not up to the standards of the rest of the park as we experienced it. That's the -1 star on cleanliness.

As stated in another review, some of the sites are tight for larger rigs, and can be unlevel. We drove through the campground a week or so earlier when we were nearby and we were able to scout out the site we wanted (64) We did have to prop up one side of the 5th wheel for side-to-side level. We were dry camping.

The site is gravel with a bbq, picnic table and fire pit. There are lots of trails from novice to expert ability. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The ghost town nearby was disappointing. To me, it felt like a western-style strip mall, designed to separate you from your money. It may be of value to families with yung'uns if you have the $ to spend on rides and attractions (train ride, zip line, mine tour, "mystery shack", which were all about $7 each). There was a cute gun-fight staged in the center of town. There was no entry fee and parking was free, so it was a nice stroll on a beautiful day. Otherwise, meh.

Excellent park as others have written. Great views, great hiking, lots of privacy in most of the sites. We were in site 11 and this loop has smaller sites and less privacy than some of the higher-numbered loops (as well as no hook-ups). The place is huge and could be a long walk to the bathroom for some areas. We have stayed here and at nearby Usery Mountain and the parks are very similar in their amenities, camping experience and closeness to services in town, but Lost Dutchman is quite a bit further from Phoenix. I would return to either park again without hesitation. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The Good Apple Market in Apache Junction is a health-food store with incredibly low prices on produce and supplements, and only about 5 miles from Lost Dutchman. The Superstition Mountain Museum, about a mile from the park, is a wonderful little museum and a great value for $5.

Loved the Park and have stayed here a couple of times over the past few years. Problem I have is that the washroom/showers are disgusting. I have complained in the past but got no response so will not stay here again. Showers are filthy with hair balls stuck to the walls and floors. Fecal material on the benches, mold in the tile and just filthy. We have stayed at almost all of the State Parks in Arizona and this one has to have the dirtiest washroom/shower facilities. I even took pictures over our two week stay and sent them to Parks. No response. Will not stay at this Park again. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Wow, we loved it here. The campground itself is well laid out, with sites spaced far enough away from each other to afford good privacy. The park is beautiful, including great views of Superstition Mountain from just about anywhere. Lots of hiking trails ranging from short walks to arduous, multi-hour climbs in adjacent Tonto National Forest (which includes Superstition Mountain). Moreover, the park's staff were exceedingly helpful when I discovered it was physically impossible for me to get into the site I had reserved online because of the size of our rig (see tips). The park manager himself came over and assessed the situation; he agreed and graciously offered that we stay the night in the (dry-camping) overflow while he tried to find a solution for the remainder of our stay. The next morning at 8:00, a park staff knocked on our door and explained that they had found us a suitable, non-reservable spot and were holding it for us for the remainder of the week. We moved and had a wonderful time during the following days. They even refunded us the rate difference between our reserved site and the overflow site for the first night despite the whole thing being pretty much my mistake. Not only will we make it a point to stay here again, I also wish to highlight the park staff's outstanding level of professionalism and helpfulness. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Be wary of the new loop (sites 75-104) if you're in a bigger rig. Many are not suitable despite being described as very long on the reservation website; they may be very acute U-type pull-throughs, or be at such a sharp angle to the (quite narrow) road as to be impossible to back into. Site #93 was such a case for our 40' fifth-wheel with long-bed dually combination..

This is one of the prettiest parks we stay in. The Saguaro Cactus are plentiful and the view of Superstition Mountain is awesome. Very friendly hosts and grounds keepers. Very clean, paved sites and roads. Walking and hiking paths throughout the area, all the way up Superstition Mountain for the very robust. Close to restaurants and shopping, but the feeling of being far away. We loved this park. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Beautiful park with large, well separated sites. About one third of the sites have water/electric, the rest are dry. Good showers available. Very quiet at night. Verizon signal is weak. I recommend you use a satellite map when choosing your site because some sites have the sitting area facing the road because a wash drops off behind the site. Those sites have no privacy at all. Excellent trails right in the park. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.
