The park has spacious sites and clean bathrooms, but no one has cleaned the showers in days. First shower had a dirty diaper and a mess of hair, second and third were garbage free, but not clean. The forth one had a bloody band-aid on the floor and garbage on the bench. Too bad because it's a great location. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Truck Camper.

Stayed at Lost Dutchman as we visited family in the area. Because of the extreme danger of wildfire there was a ban on any outdoor fires. Daytime temperatures were in the 100 degree range each day but the nights cooled off enough to have the windows open to enjoy the fresh air. Area was well maintained and employee's were very helpful. Stayed in site 100 which is in the first loop and is a moderate walk to the restroom/shower. We camped in a 22 foot travel trailer We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Travel Trailer.

As all AZ parks, this one was spotless. The crews keep the sites clean and raked. You could tell they cared. Second time we stayed here and it is great for visiting family. Water and electric is all we needed and both worked well. Gift shop is good for small items. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Goldfield Mining camp is just down the road and worth a visit. Zipline, mine tour, food, street gunfight, and much shopping and tourist items. We liked that it was not real crowded but had many visitors at the time. Lost Dutchman museum is also worth a stop but not as good. The church is a memorial to the western movies and Elvis.

I gave this park a higher rating that I should have but the downfall was our fault. We did not reserve a site!! Access to the park is paved all the way. Our GPS tried to take us down a dirt road. Don't follow the GPS. Stay on highway 88. Check in was quick, efficient and informative. We were placed in the Overflow section for one night (site 118) with no services (same price as everyone else). I could not walk on the left side of my unit with slide out because their was a steep bank that dropped down about four feet. The site was a paved island with a gravel patio area with a metal table and a fire pit. No shade as it is located in the desert. It was very basic but we were happy to get the spot. The second night we were asked to move over to the Group Camp site. This, in our opinion, is much nicer than the overflow (still no services). We had a double wide site, level, with a covered picnic shelter to use and the washroom/shower traffic was pretty much just us. The view was nicer as well. There are no restaurants or services within walking distance. We paid $30.00 per night and feel we received good value. We would return but with a reservation. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

The park has spectacular views of the Superstition Mountains pretty much from most of the sites. The check-in process was the most efficient that I have seen as the volunteer and staff were plentiful and available! We stayed in the "newer loop" where the sites are a little closer to each other but we still had enough space to have privacy. This section had some fairly level sites. We had to switch to one that required blocks under our front wheels but no big deal. Bring your camera for the views and wildlife. We saw Cardinal birds, Hawks, rabbits, quail and other animals from our site which was a treat! Verizon coverage was good. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Visit Goldfield mine if you like to see Western shows and especially if you have children. The Lost Dutchman Museum had some better Indian, mining and local artifacts that we have seen closeup. They also have a nice gift shop. The Apache Trail drive is worth the time to see the historic town of Tortilla Flats, Canyon Lake and beautiful scenery. Stores and restaurants are a short distance from the park.

This park was the most cost effective in the area even tho further out from the city. Hiking is about the only activity we did and it was too warm to do much. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

There are a couple tourist type attractions nearby but we did not do them. They did look like fun. If there is rain be sure to watch for flash floods. We had a flood the last morning and had 30 foot wide by 1 foot deep all around the motorhome. Drainage was good and complete once the rain stopped.

Another beautiful public park campground near Phoenix, with great mountain views. We stayed a week in the new section, sites 76-104, which all have electric and water. The sites here are much closer together than in the old section, with those around the outside of the loop (like ours) having a bit more privacy than those in the center of the loop, which looked really crammed together, one on top of the next. Sites are paved which is nice, but not level; we needed wood blocks under our front tires before our jacks could get us level. There is no bath house in the new section, so it's either a drive or a fairly long walk to get to one of the two bath houses in the old section. The old section has much more spacious and private sites, some with electric and water and some without hookups. Generators are allowed on the no hookup sites, so there will be some noise from them. The showers were a bit dated-looking, but the water was hot with good pressure which is what matters to us! We like that the various trails are easily accessible right from the campground, rather than having to drive to a trailhead. There were plenty of places to walk our dog. It's an 8-10 minute drive to supermarkets and restaurants in Apache Junction. Our Verizon and AT&T both worked pretty well without a booster, though our AT&T signal was only 1 bar at our site. There were lots of cholla cactus around the campground, including several right at the edge of our site, and our dog and our neighbor got stuck by them, so be careful! We'd return here. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice clean decently spaced sites, great views, okay bathroom, decent price, close to town for all your needs. We strayed in the no hookup sites by mistake, didn't notice it when I made reservations. No hookups is fine for us as we have solar, what I didn't care for was the generators many others use but I guess that's my problem, just something to keep in mind. The showers could use some work, getting dated and not very clean, even if you are the first in after the volunteers get done. Overall I think if I had gotten a site around the campgrounds perimeter we would have liked it better, the generator noise was a turnoff for us. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

A great State Park with roomy sites, awesome Superstition mountain views, and lots of wildlife. Good, paved interior roads, and mostly level, paved sites. Plenty of trails, from easy to challenging. Lots to do in the Park and nearby. The only negatives: Not enough restrooms/showers; if you don't use the one in your RV you might have a lengthy walk. Only one dump station; two can dump at once but there can be a wait. Campgrounds were full the 2 weeks we were here - reserve well in advance to get a site. We would definitely stay here again. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

We enjoyed our time at this campground. Beautiful mountain views. Campsites only include water and electric, but a dump station is available. Campground is near the old mining town of Goldfield that has shops and restaurants and about 7 miles from shopping. Campsites are large with good seperation between sites. Many hiking trails with varying degrees of difficulty available throughout the park. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.

We enjoyed our time at this campground. Beautiful mountain views. Campsites only include water and electric, but a dump station is available. Campground is close to an old mining town (Goldfield) with shops and restaurants. Campsites are large and had some distance from fellow campers. Hiking trails were available throughout the park. We had no issue getting a DirecTV and Verizon 4G signal. Freeway access and grocery stores is about 20 minutes away. We would camp here again. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a great state park, close to Apache Junction (5 miles), with good hiking, and biking only on blacktop in campground and in the day use area. It has 1 new restroom and shower; 1 older restroom and shower. The new showers are nice and much cleaner. This is an excellent place to explore the Arizona desert. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Camped here for 3 nights and enjoyed this park. Washroom is dated, but very clean with good water pressure. Large pull through sites with a majestic view of the Superstition Mountains. Temperatures were high 90's and needed the A/C. Only a handful of campers due to the heat. Park is in excellent condition with good walking trails and clean sites. We will return. We like this park, which may soon be closing due to the fiscal mess in Arizona. Very pretty desert sites, with decent privacy for some. Easy walk (1/2 mile, slightly uphill) to the spooky Superstitions, which rise up right at the south edge of the park. Bathrooms were ok, it's no Catalina, but it works. No hookups, which we found clear going in. It's a few miles up the Apache Trail from the Junction; do your shopping on the way in. If this adventurous little park closes, it'll be a shame. Lots of volunteers would be happy to keep it open, and how tough (or expensive) can it be to do so when there are no hookups? Shame on you, Arizona legislature. We camped at Lost Dutchman State Park in a Motorhome.
