This park is amazing. A short walk (<10min) to the desert view visitor center, watchtower and canyon views. And you know everybody wants to see sunsets in the Grand Canyon, no need to drive to a packed parking lot and stand over top of everybody. This side of the park is not visited as much. The campground is SMALL. I'm pulling a 30' travel trailer with an excursion and it was tight getting around. Only about 5 sites I could fit into. We lucked out and got the biggest site here! Dry campground, so no hookups, but flush toilets and fresh water is available (no hose hookup) several dumpsters are around park and it is really clean. Generator hours are normal NPS 7-9 morning and 6-8 evening. Mostly tent camping in here, but several small motor homes and trailers. There is a gas station, and small "market" close by. I would definitely stay here again! We camped at Desert View (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

We were only able to get a spot at this popular no reservations Grand Canyon Campground by arriving at 8:30 AM, as campers were checking out. We paid our $12 by credit card, then our friendly camp host met us to place the 'OCCUPIED' sign up. Our pull-through 30' slot was level with some shade. The bathroom was usable, and had a sink washing station behind. We left our site for the day to explore the Park, driving the 25 miles West to see the Village and Market areas. We really liked the vibe at Desert View better; it is much quieter than GC Village, without the bus waves of tourists anxiously rushing to Mather Point for their first look at the Canyon. Yet, at Desert View there is a good sized General Store, Trading Post and Cafe, as well as a Chevron with both Gas and Diesel products. And the views from Desert Tower are fascinating. We camped at Desert View (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

Sunset Tip: arrive at the Tower before dusk, then walk up canyon rim to the left for spectacular views of the sunset to the West. Sunrise tip: Enjoy Sunrise, then take a stroll to the Trading post just after 8AM to enjoy a hearty Canyon Breakfast Burrito and fresh Coffee.

Like all NPS parks, this one is 'dry camping'. Water hydrants strategically placed in park. Length limit of 30' on RV, no big rigs in here. First come first serve, park fills up fast. We were in Spot 42 (?) with good view of desert. Crowded but some spaces on the outside of the loop have privacy. Some people have no concept of 'quiet hours'.... rental rvs and generators...... ugh! we would camp here again We camped at Desert View (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

This is a National Park Service campground. There are NO hookups; it is boondocking at its finest. If you want to get away from the bedlam at the Grand Canyon Village area, this is the place. We stayed in site #22, in the back of the loop. Bring leveling boards or be prepared to use your leveling system if you have one. Absolute quiet, all you hear are the ravens and the wind. Short bike ride or walk to the canyon rim and the watch tower. No facilities at the campground other than restrooms and water spigots throughout the park. No dump station; you need to go to Mather campground (26 miles) to dump. If you love peace and quiet, this is your paradise; if you want hustle and bustle and hookups, go to Trailer Village. Not reservable; first come, first served, but we had no problem finding a site in September. We loved this place and will definitely return. We camped at Desert View (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.
