Lovely park, stunning views, good hikes, Verizon works. $90 monthly rate attracts the homeless, so a few sites are trash heaps. A few people seem to think running a generator all night is ok. Guy next to me comes in late at night and fires his up in the pickup bed. A big MH came in last night and ran his all night. Fortunately they weren't construction generators or I'd have had a fit, but there was one guy in here a week ago with one and the place cheered when he turned it off. There's a community water spigot up near the top row which suddenly quit working after a big storm yesterday. I mentioned it to the ranger who told me this is a dry park, no power, no water. Ok, well that's weird, because it's always provided water whenever I needed it. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Off the freeway, but far enough away that we never heard any traffic noise. This is a BLM campground with NO hookups. Toilets were clean spaces are small, but well spaced. There is a good mix of back-in and pull-through. This is NOT a destination resort, but it is beautiful spectacular scenery with some hiking available. We must have had different camp hosts than others have reviewed because the place was clean, picked up, trash cans were emptied and covered. We stayed over Veterans Day in November, and the campground was busy but not packed. Summary: Beautiful scenery, no hookups, overnight $4.00 with America the Beautiful Pass. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is a beautiful location with spectacular views. We have stayed here in October for a few nights for the last several years. It has progressively gotten worse. There is no limit on the stay here so there are a number of homeless folks here, some with 8-10 people in one campsite. Trash cans are constantly overflowing, fire rings are full of trash and broken bottles. Lots of strange individuals wandering around staring at your vehicle, it's contents, your rv, etc. Lock everything up of you want to keep it. Lots of people come in as late as 2 am, making lots of noise, don't pay and leave early in the morning. No law enforcement presence here. There is a host here but he doesn't/can't deter anything. Don't get me wrong, I am compassionate to people who are down on their luck but this is more than that. Some discarded needles laying around and some of these folks look at you like you are a pot roast and they are a Pit Bull. Probably will not go back anymore. It is just too sketchy and feeling very uneasy the whole time you are there is just not good. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Travel Trailer.

We camped here in the fall. Weather was fantastic. Scenery was spectacular. The place was filthy. Trash cans were full. When they were emptied trash bags were stacked up around dumpster. Directly off interstate. It feels like you are camping in a rest area. We visited with an Arizona State Trooper and were told the only way to make camp safe was to lock gate at night. Of course BLM didn't care to do that. We might overnight here again in a pinch but we would stay inside and keep doors locked. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a beautiful place but VERY bad for dogs. There are lots of tiny cactus all over the campground that are very difficult to see. One of our dogs stepped on one and we had a heck of a time pulling all the spines out. If you're a dog owner, skip this place. Otherwise, lovely, with views of the river and cliffs. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Neat place to dry camp for a day or several. Excellent views and a trail or two. Easy access for big rigs. The only negative was a lot of flies. We were in a 40' rig with toad. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Great value for the price. Beautiful scenery and peace and quiet yet not far from the freeway. A very nice public campground that we'll return to. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Beautiful area and far enough from the highway to be quiet. Lots of birds and wildlife. No hookups but this is certainly no problem with self contained units for a night or two. We will stay here anytime we are passing through. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Campground far enough off the highway to be able to sit outside and relax and get a good night sleep. River was very muddy looking this time of year. It's too bad they don't have drinking water here since they have flush toilets. If you have a cellphone antenna and a booster it's possible to get Verizon service here. Great stop over for a night or longer. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

What a great BLM campground! Easy access from the hwy, large sites and beautiful views. There are no hookups and no dump station, but if you are prepared for that or you just want to stay the night it is wonderful. It can get windy in the canyon. They allow you to stay as long as you like and because the cost is low there are some people that look like they have been around for a while. It is nice to find small quiet places like this that are easy to get our 40' MH into. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Beautiful dry camping in the desert among the dramatic cliffs of the Virgin River Canyon. Located 1/2 way between St. George and Mesquite. Be sure to have your AC tuned up and working well for this location in the hot times of the year. When the sun goes down is time to sit outside and enjoy the stars and gorgeous sunsets! Fire pits can be used if it's not too windy. Immaculate bathrooms - thanks to the great on-site hosts. Beautiful hiking and day use area on the river. Campground is located on a plateau above the river. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.

We would duplicate what was said in the previous post regarding this nice little park. However, the Exit# off I-15 in Arizona at the Utah border is 18. We have a 40' motorhome and some of the off-the-road pull-offs would accommodate us, but not all. All the backins are very short and are for tents but they are very close together. The bathrooms with flush toilets were immaculate. There are no hookups and no showers. It was 100 degrees plus at the end of September. We would stay again for a night if passing through. We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Motorhome.

Bottom Line Up Front - We would absolutely stay here again and rate it a 6 only because of the absence of hook-ups. Located in Arizona on Interstate 15 exit 19 (Cedar Pockets Interchange). Nestled in a pocket of the spectacular Virgin River Gorge, this recreation area is surrounded by colorful cliffs and rocky canyons. The Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area offers a developed campground, picnic/day use area, hiking trails and access to the Virgin River and two wilderness areas. The campground is open all year with 75 sites (many are pull-throughs). There are no hook-ups, but, this is a wonderful little Park. There are tables, charcoal grills, water to fill your tank, flush toilets (no showers), two handicapped-accessible sites and paved roads. There’s no sewer dump. The Park is located about 20 miles southwest of St. George Utah and about 20 miles northeast of Mesquite, Nevada. Take the Cedar Pockets exit, located halfway through the Virgin River Gorge. Campsites are $8.00 per night. Holders of a Golden Age or Golden Access permit are entitled to a 50% discount. This is a great little layover park, or, if you don’t mind the lack of hookups, a great extended park. The views here are breath taking! We camped at Virgin River Canyon Recreation Area in a Fifth Wheel.
