Overall Rating:

Beautiful scenery with mountains all around and desert plants as far as the eye can see. No road noise since park entrance is 4 miles away, but the coyote chorus is regular and constant throughout the night. Plenty of hiking and biking trails, some right from the campground. Great bathrooms and showers which are never crowded. Quiet campground except for some late night socializing on the weekends...not enough to complain about to camp hosts, though. The only real negative is the sewer smell from the first bathroom in the South Loop, and the fact that the supposedly automatic lights in the Women's room don't always work. Apparently it's an ongoing problem so I just learned to bring a headlamp and hold my breath near the bathrooms. Otherwise, an outstanding experience. We will be back! We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Tips for other Campers:

We love the Fountain Hills Library with freaky fast internet. Choice of Safeway, Basha's and Fry's for groceries, all within 15 minutes.

This is the second time we have stayed here in site 75. Each site has beautiful views of the desert and surrounding mountains. The site was fairly level--we needed no leveling blocks--but we noticed some sites, esp. in the north loop, looked off kilter. The south loop is quieter and has larger spots; the north loop is more child-friendly, as it has a playground. We come for the 60 miles of biking and running trails, accessible straight from the camp site, that are maintained well. The only downfalls: very few dumpsters or trash cans (you have to walk a bit) and the incessant small-engine aircraft noise. Apparently there are many flight schools in the area, and they like to buzz the campground for hours on end, making it seem like you're under attack--which is annoying if you're hoping to listen to the sounds of the desert wildlife. Other than that, the place is clean and well-maintained. Make reservations early. The campground is always full during the spring. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

We're staying here now - a 4 night stay and it's a very nice desert RV Park. Lots of room between campsites. Very nice bathrooms and water and Electric service.

Mountain views all around and large old Segura Cacti in most of the campsites. We've got a pull-thru which is a wide spot in the road kind of pull-thru. Nicely curbed and a nice picnic table, grill and fire ring with neatly raked gravel. The campsite is paved, not level, but just fine.

Lots to do here, but you are far from everything. It seems every place we've gone has been 29 miles away according to the GPS. The closest town Fountain HIlls is very southwestern and nice. But no Laundromat nearby. The closest we found was... you guessed it, 29 miles away.

We like it here very much and would return if we were in the area. We're here in April but I'm guessing May to Oct is VERY hot. Though in April it's 80 during the day and 55 each night - cooling off around 5 pm. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Really a lovely park with views of the desert landscape. Because of a fire in 1995, there is limited cactus etc which is good when camping with dogs. Well maintained and clean. The information booth and shop was great with very friendly helpful people and good resources. Camp was quiet. Convenient to Scottsdale. Large camp sites. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Great if you want widely spaced sites in the desert. Lots of trails in this very large rural park, too. Despite feeling very remote, it's right next to Fountain Hills (suburbia) with all services within 4 miles. You have to drive through Fountain Hills to get here. But it's a long drive to any part of Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, etc. Be careful for rattlesnakes. You can see a captive one at the Nature Center. Also note that because the park is at about 1,400 ft elevation it's pretty hot all summer. Cell phone is no problem here. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

McDowell Mountain Regional Park is a wonderful state park. The McDowell Mountains and Superstition Mountains produce outstanding views and sunsets. The sites are paved, level and include a good amount of distance from other campers. Ranger led tours are available, including trails for hiking and bike riding. Electric power was stable and water pressure was great. Park has no sewer hookups, but a clean dump station is available. Park is close to Fountain Hills, which includes gas stations, grocery stores, shops, parks and dining. See their website for more details, park event planning and local attractions. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Overall Rating:

Happened upon this desert jewel quite by accident. What a magical spot if you enjoy a rustic, pristine desert setting. Campsites are spacious and level with excellent separation between sites. Roads are paved, sites are gravel. Electric power is strong and stable. Water pressure is great. Although there are no sewer hookups at the sites, there is a dump station at the campground entrance. The desert and mountain views are inspiring, especially at sunrise and sunset. The saguaro cactus in this area are huge and numerous. Although it feels remote, the park is located only six miles north of the developed Fountain Hills area with its many stores and services. We highly recommend this park. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.
