This is the second time we have stayed here in site 75. Each site has beautiful views of the desert and surrounding mountains. The site was fairly level--we needed no leveling blocks--but we noticed some sites, esp. in the north loop, looked off kilter. The south loop is quieter and has larger spots; the north loop is more child-friendly, as it has a playground. We come for the 60 miles of biking and running trails, accessible straight from the camp site, that are maintained well. The only downfalls: very few dumpsters or trash cans (you have to walk a bit) and the incessant small-engine aircraft noise. Apparently there are many flight schools in the area, and they like to buzz the campground for hours on end, making it seem like you're under attack--which is annoying if you're hoping to listen to the sounds of the desert wildlife. Other than that, the place is clean and well-maintained. Make reservations early. The campground is always full during the spring. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Information signs are typical brown with white letters showing signs of age. Very difficult to see and read. Site spacing is fantastic - park nearly full and we could only see six or seven other RV's. Our space #61 strangely shaped in that entrance was just barely wide enough for toad and coach and other end was much wider. Be careful selecting site. I saw several that were probably long enough for 30 footers but half was a steep grade/ramp up. Shower water was HOT with no adjustment. Entrance booth seemed to be closed most of the time. Check-in at nature center (closes at 4 PM) a couple miles from entrance. Overall we enjoyed our week stay. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

Stayed over the weekend and it was very peaceful around the campground. Not too many people there at all, surprising because of all the Snowbirds. Sites are huge and very clean and private with 30 and 50 amp services. Utilities are close and convenient. Easy back in sites, rest rooms conveniently located and always very clean. Satellite service easy to get, very open area with nothing to block the signal. Lots of coyotes at night to listen too and enjoy. My dog wanted to run a play with them, go figure! Camped here in a 5th wheel. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Nice place just to kick back and relax for a time. Not much to see or do except for enjoy the view of the "four Peaks", the desert and the cacti. Enjoy the music of the coyotes at night, just keep your small pet close to your side!!

This is the second time we have stayed here and we would definitely stay here again. The sites are very spacious, quite some distance from each other, very quiet, and the views are great. This is not your typical RV park but more like "camping". We had a long pull through site which easily handled our 40 foot motorhome and tow vehicle. We had to use additional blocks to level, however. Electric and water at site, no sewer at site, and no wifi. The park is 8 miles out of Fountain Hills, which requires a lot of driving if you are doing city activities. But we definitely find that it is worth it! We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

A lot of very unlevel sites, we tried for 30 minutes to get our 40' bus level, unsuccessfully. Thankfully they had another level site & allowed us to switch, for a $5 fee. 50A power, nice views, good playground for the grandchild, lots of hike trails. Very far from civilization(other than Fountain Hills). Nice spacious sites, well maintained. Dump station only, no sewer at sites. Water quality is "Arizona Terrible", lots of mineral content. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Very nice, very quite, regional park. Sites are level, although a bit on the short side. If you don't need a pull through site, I wouldn't recommend them...basically just a wide spot in the road. Plenty of space between sites with beautiful mountain views in every direction. With many miles of mixed use trails, this is a very popular park for mountain bikers. Great trail access from the campgrounds, but with the number of bikers, I wouldn't really call the trails dog friendly, and certainly not off leash (leash rules in affect). We found Stoneman Wash a great location to let dogs off leash to run (under voice control at all times of course). Trails are well marked, mostly rolling hills, and easy, so not a great hiking area if you like more challenging trails. First time here, and will be back. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

We have been here several times and always enjoy the park, the view, the hosts' care of the park and the hiking trails. Many cacti were blooming here at the end of March. Fabulous, nearly empty. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Another New Years visit to this park to get away from the crazies in town during this holiday. Took a pull thru for ease of parking our new class A but will probably get a back in next time as all sites are very spacious. Impeccably well maintained park with friendly gate keepers and camp hosts. In the midst of many trails for hiking and mountain biking. Will definitely stay here again. Great if you want widely spaced sites in the desert. Lots of trails in this very large rural park, too. Despite feeling very remote, it's right next to Fountain Hills (suburbia) with all services within 4 miles. You have to drive through Fountain Hills to get here. But it's a long drive to any part of Phoenix, Mesa, Tempe, Chandler, etc. Be careful for rattlesnakes. You can see a captive one at the Nature Center. Also note that because the park is at about 1,400 ft elevation it's pretty hot all summer. Cell phone is no problem here. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Travel Trailer.

Very nice find! Quiet with great desert vista's. Only 7 miles from town for supplies and 3o miles from Scottsdale. Camp Hosts were great on site. Not so helpful by phone prior to arrival. Restrooms & Showers are some of the cleanest i have seen. This is important since there are no sewer hook ups. Dump station on-site. Bring your own shade. As others have said, this is a beautiful park. My only complaint is the cost of making a reservation prior to coming. It is $25 if you just show up but every time we have come here the park was full. We needed to camp here so made advanced reservations, which cost an extra five bucks. If you want to camp here, be sure and arrive early to get a site (probably before noon). Even then you may have to park in the overflow for a day or two. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Have stayed here many times, usually over the New Year holiday but at other times as well. Until this year I would have no complaints but while I was traveling cross country my in-laws called to tell us their usual New Years stay was a bit more challenged this year. Seems they only take on-line reservations now (?? - used to be ONLY walk-ins) & everything was full; they were charged $18 for an overflow spot in the big dirt lot near the group Campground. Hmmm, I wonder if Regional Parks in Arizona are making some questionable decisions trying to raise $? Anyway, my stay in September was more of my former experience: pristine rest rooms & shower; attentive but unobtrusive camp hosts (eg., came around & set water valves to better prevent freezing overnight) great hiking/mountain biking trails in the area; Will do some investigating before staying again. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

This is a very nice "state park" type campground in the desert with a view of distant mountains all around. The drives are paved, quite level, and very well separated. There are quite a few large cacti in the park. There are several washrooms which are quite new with free hot showers. There were only three campers there when we were there, making it a very private experience in the high desert. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

McDowell Mountain Regional Park is a wonderful state park. The McDowell Mountains and Superstition Mountains produce outstanding views and sunsets. The sites are paved, level and include a good amount of distance from other campers. Ranger led tours are available, including trails for hiking and bike riding. Electric power was stable and water pressure was great. Park has no sewer hookups, but a clean dump station is available. Park is close to Fountain Hills, which includes gas stations, grocery stores, shops, parks and dining. See their website for more details, park event planning and local attractions. This is a nice desert park with all hookups. It was not very crowded when we were there and there are a number of hiking trails throughout the desert environment. In the evening the quail are all over the place, scurrying about (haven't gotten a good picture yet!), There are numerous, level sites and a very quiet, laid back type of park. We will stay here again. We camped at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in a Motorhome.
