Basics: Roads paved and easy to get around on. Sites paved with picnic table and fire ring, & reasonably level. Sites on the short sides of the loop tend to be a bit out of level. Back in sites have 20, 30 amp power and water. Pull through sites have 20, 30, 50 amp power and water. All back in sites are listed at 50' and are nice and wide. Not a lot of those pesky trees to interfere with grand vistas or satellite reception. Bath and showers: Clean and showers have good hot water and pressure. They ask you to limit your showers to 5 mins. due to water line problems. Dump station and potable water are on the way out. During the cold months water at sites is shut off but the water at the dump stations works. Note on checking in:. Go to the visitors center before you pull into your site to get the paper work. The reservation system works quickly and well. The Staff: I found the staff as warm and helpful as a January blizzard in Wyoming. There was a palatable air of tension in the visitors center and getting information from them was like trying to open an oyster with a tooth pick. This park does not have a lot of restored structures but the scope of the history of the ancient ones is amazing. The park is only a few miles outside of Winslow and has a grocery store and Walmart. A note on the prices, 30 amp service was $25 and 50 amp service was $30. There is also a $5 reservation fee/ reservation. All in all it's a pretty good set up for RV camping and we'd stay here again if were in the area. Verizon phone and Mifi worked well. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice place to camp and visit the nearby archeological sites. Our site was an electric pull-thru. What I hate about site-specific reservations, is that one just doesn't know what one is getting online. Our site (20) was clean and more than long enough for our 36ft class A with 24ft trailer, 65ft total length. We could even leave the rear trailer ramp open if we desired, as well park our Jeep and a friend's car. But the site required leveling, and the picnic table was hardly usable with its tilt. We could level the rig just fine, but the off-pavement part of the site was not very usable. Other sites appeared to be better, but being site-specific, it just wasn't worth the trouble to attempt to make changes. Be sure to visit the Painted Desert lookout, 15 miles north on the same road that leads to the park. The view was amazing. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

I can't write enough good things about this place that hasn't already been written. Before I begin, if you stay at the campground all park fees are included; though you should still register at the visitor center and get a badge to hang from your mirror. Tell them you are staying at the campground. They will take care of the rest. All sites had a standing BBQ. 50A was mainly for pull through. 30A was back-in. Tent spaces had water, fire ring. I was here a week. It was sad to see people come for only a night and miss the rich culture that lay just up the road and around the corner. Not everyone is into ancient history. That's OK. If you are, as another review noted, they stayed long enough to immerse themselves in the culture that surround the park. Give yourself 2-3 days if you have them to give. Sure, there's no sewer hookups. This is not Glamping. They have water, electric, clean restrooms and showers. Dump your tanks on the way out. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The big deal is what lay around the park, if you choose to partake. Homolovi I and II. To dismiss those out of hand is to rob yourself of an experience unlikely found anywhere else on earth. You just can't get that back - unless you're here.

Stopped here for two nights this time so we could see the ruins and stand on the corner in Winslow. I booked our site online and there was an extra $5 fee for that, but it's worth it to know we have a spot we'll fit into. Our pull-thru had the electric post on the opposite side, but it was easy enough to get the cord under the trailer and hook up. The bathrooms are very clean, the showers that were working didn't look too bad, but we didn't use them. They're individual rooms. One of them looked like it had been vandalized, the other one was closed. Only two of the four appeared to be usable. The park is clean, and the visitor center is nice. The ranger on duty was an archaeologist and was very informative. We visited the old Sunset cemetery and the larger ruins. It was a nice outing on a cool sunny day. Homolovi is a great stop along I-40. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

In Winslow the La Posada hotel is worth a visit. Just up the road from Homolovi SP is a county park with views of part of the painted desert - it looks a lot like the SD badlands - but the park itself is trashed and the bathrooms are locked and vandalized.

This park is about a 7.5 It would be higher, but there is no sewer at the site and the electric and water were on the wrong side of the pull thrus. Plus no wifi, but the sunrise and sunset and star watching is amazing out here because you are off the highway by about 5 miles and you are out in the country in the middle of a state park. It was nice to see a few other campers there otherwise it could get lonely out there? The pull thrus are semi-circles and are compressed gravel. There is a dump station on your way out. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Great location with a primitive feeling but nice creature-features. We had one of the few FHU sites. There is a small visitor center in the back of the park where you check-in that includes some artifacts. Very friendly, informative rangers. Nice walking paths that allows leashed dogs with many, many pottery pieces that you can pick up to observe. Fascinating to anyone that likes archeology/history but turn to paper-pushing to make a living. Location is great to visit Winslow and drive some of Route 66. Would definitely stay again. Sites are spread out and nicely spaced apart. Shade is minimal. The pull-through sites are really just wide spots in the road with no vegetation on the islands. It can be a long walk to the restrooms and showers from some of the sites. Showers rooms are spacious with three hooks, a bench and a platform ideal for placing soap and shampoo. Only two of four showers, however, were open during our stay. Faucets in the restrooms have nozzles that force the water out in a high-pressure spray that can ricochet off hands and onto clothing or into faces. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Travel Trailer.

We used the reservation system and booked site 5 for our 42' class A. The park is very attractive, well maintained and has some really nice views. Roads and sites all paved and our site was almost dead level. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. We had 50 amp electric and water - no sewer. Site 5 is huge and we had ample room for everything. The only slight issue is the interior roads are one-way and had we followed that the hookups would have been on the passenger side. The camp host allowed us to go against the flow and scoot into the site the "correct" direction which put the hookups where they belong. The campground was pretty empty so I don't know if that would have been a problem had it been full. The last wonderful thing about this place is it is dark at night! And you can see the stars. We explored Winslow for a few hours and fueled at the Flying J on the way out in the morning. Wonderful little place and not only would we overnight here again we would not mind coming for 2-3 nights and look at the ruins, take a hike and enjoy Winslow a bit more. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

We had dinner at the Turquoise Room in the La Posta Hotel. It was one of the original Harvey Hotels built for the railroads. It is a beautiful place, the food was excellent and the atmosphere original - we felt like we had pulled in on a train and were enjoying a dinner stop before resuming our train journey. Worth spending some time wandering around the hotel.

This state park is only about 2 miles off of I40. Roads are paved and so are all sites. Park only had about 5 RVs in it during our stay. Our site was level with some shade. Most sites have some shade, but trees are small so shade is a premium. Online reservations do not tell you that there are a few 50 amp FHUs sites. Those sites are 1, 2 and 39. Not sure if these are just for campground hosts but a camper with a tent took one of these FHUs sites while we were there. Very easy for Big Rigs to maneuver and park here. There is a nice bathhouse that seems very clean. There are two Homolovi ruin sites here. Homolovi 1 has not been excavated yet, but you can follow a trail through it. Homolovi 2 has one kivas that has been excavated to view. Verizon Cell service good. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Motorhome.

What Can I say? 'Standin on the corner in Winslow AZ'. Nice tourist trap. But the really must see in Winslow is the La Posada Hotel. Built in 1930 and was the last of Harvey railroad hotels. It's been restored. Great southwestern architecture and furnishing. If you do go there you might want to eat at 'The Turquoise Room' located within the hotel. Fair prices, good service and reasonable prices.

Price is for a pull-through with water and 50 amp electric. An interesting park with campsites that have incredible views. Nice hiking trails and several ruins that make you feel that you are part of native history. The only drawback is that several of the paved roads are so bad that you have to slow to 5 mph in a motorhome, which makes for a slow trip from the visitor center to the campground. This park is in the middle of the desert. Our daughter found a milk snake, which was cool. We're from GA where people are usually chatty. The ranger here didn't say anything besides the park rules. Nice state park conveniently located just over a mile from I-40. You can see the freeway but you cannot hear it. There are 53 sites within 2 campground loops and are a mix of back-in and pull throughs. All sites are level and spacious, with water/electric only, except for site 39 which is the only site with sewer. This is the site we stayed in. Sites have picnic tables, stand up grills and fire rings, but no shade. Interior roads are paved and easy to navigate. However, they have many large horizontal cracks (maybe for water runoff?) that make the roads rough to drive over, sort of like inverted speed bumps. The area around the park is mostly open desert with very few trees. We were only able to get 7 OTA channels (4 spanish and 3 english). Verizon service was excellent. Good signage to the park. Main bathrooms were clean with three toilets per gender and had hand soap, hand dryer and even toilet seat covers. There was also a single private handicapped bathroom. There were four private showers (2 were out of order), but they were very dated and are in desperate need of a facelift (we didn't use them). No laundry facilities. Winds were ever present during our stay with gusts up to 50 mph (and blew the smoke from the nearby Tinder Fire into the park), making being outside uncomfortable. Park rangers drove through the campground regularly. There is a nice visitor's center within the park and the staff were friendly and helpful. The park also has a dump station, but we didn't use it. We liked this park and would return. We camped at Homolovi Ruins State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

There are two Hopi Indian ruin sites within the campground and are easily accessed with paved trails. Walmart is 3-4 miles away in Winslow. We visited the "standing on the corner" area of Winslow which was pretty cool. High winds kept us from seeing other sights in the area.
