We spent 4 nights at this beautiful park. We were in site 73 in the newly renovated section with plenty of room for our 35 foot fifth wheel. All roads and sites are paved and the park was clean and quiet. We really liked this park and will definitely be back. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

I would give it a 5 for value, there is just one thing they need to add. The dumpsters are in another area from where we camped, near the shower houses there. The area we were in, which does have a shower house, needs a dumpster there. There are steps from this site right down to the river, bring your fishing gear. Shower house and restrooms are right across the street. No dumpster nearby. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Go to Bull Shoals and eat at Hank & Kates. The sticky bun is smothered in pecans, too large for me to finish, Yum We didn't go to the visitor's center, been there before, is nice.

Beautiful park right on the river. The dumpster was quite a ways from our site, but the walk was nice. There is some noise from boats on the river and an occasional plane flying over. But it was very quiet overall. We saw lot's of birds including a Belted Kingfisher and an Eagle. Spaces are asphalt and there is a gravel pad where the picnic table, lantern stand and grill are located. There is also a gravel pad behind the RV, right next to the rail beside the river. There is lot's of room to walk beside the river. Would have been nice if they had Wi-Fi. We will be back. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Motorhome.

Real nice State Park with many campsites right on the river. We stayed in space 51 and had great river access for morning and evening walks. There is a top notch Visitor Center located next to the dam. It takes about an hour go go through everything, then outside to enjoy the views. For Coffee lovers, there is a Starbucks inside the Harps Grocery Store in Bull Shoals! We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Motorhome.

Overall Rating:

This is one of my two favorite campgrounds. Absolutely beautiful with the White River running rapidly on one side of the park. Trout fishing is spectacular and the marina (on site) rents kayaks, and fishing boats at a reasonable price. I had a FHU site right on the river and all the utilities were excellent. I thought I had a water issue, but valve must be turned all the way on to set the back flow preventer. Rangers were helpful and friendly. I wasn't the first that had had that issue, even today. Staff and check-in was easy and every one here is pleasant and friendly. Typical Arkansas hospitality. Bull Shoals is a little off the beaten path, but this is a great place to spend a week, any time of the year. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Bull Shoals is somewhat out in the Country but they do have a good market. Mountain Home 12 miles away has all that you could need. Several excellent RV shops within 15 miles. Visit the Bull Shoals Damn Museum, excellent history lesson about this area of the Ozarks.

One of my favorite parks, EVER. This is a park designed by somebody who actually has camped in a camper. Lots are spacious, each full hook up site has a cement patio offset from the camp, perfect for setting up a sun shade. Some sites have overview of the river, but access to the length of the river is public. New area was being updated while we were there, doubling the number of full hook ups. The park information center is up the road, necessitating a drive, but is impressive. There are many activities available in the park, including those appropriate for children. I would have stayed all summer if they didn't have a fourteen day maximum. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

The laundromat in Bull Shoals was FILTHY. I tracked down the owner to complain, and he assured me that it just hadn't been cleaned that day. I assure you it hadn't been cleaned in much longer than that. The Harp's grocery store in Bull Shoals is adequate. The one in Mountain Home is excellent. We were impressed with the guides from Dally's Ozark Fly in Cotter, and he also has a well equipped and staffed store.

Clean, quiet place. Very popular - stays nearly full all the time in camping season. Some construction is going on at the far end of the road with sites being updated but it's no problem for the rest of the sites. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Motorhome.

Nice park along the river. Can catch trout from bank by boat ramp. Some sites need leveling and not many sites capable of handling big rigs. Only real complaints were flies and people speeding on park road. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Motorhome.

Rarely give a 10, but this place is great. Exquisite views on the White River, the park itself is beautiful and the sites are roomy (Unless you are on a site that backs up to the River). Park Rangers are informative, and the boat dock here is terrific. Only negative, if you want one, is the Boat dock has the only WIFI. I brought my own hotspot, so it doesn't matter. TV over the air is fine, several channels from Springfield, MO, and one from Little Rock. Site is level, water at 50PSI, and electricity is good. Can use 50, 30, or 20 amp. Got here during the rain, and site was a little muddy, but hey, this is Arkansas. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Fifth Wheel.

Tips for other Campers:

Bull Shoals have basic shopping. Lake View nearby is very limited, and Mountain Home 15 miles away had almost anything you might need. White River is stocked with 200,000 rainbows every month of the year. Flow is regulated at the damn, and can fluctuate widely. Need to be cautious at the river current is swift.

We were here for 7 days and it was great. We didn't get to fish really because of some goofy thing that happened with the dam that caused the river to be almost impossible to fish due to all the weeds. The second your line hit the water it was covered in weeds and rendered useless. This is a temporary thing and will clear up, just unfortunate that it was a problem during our stay. The campground is nice, well groomed and clean. No problems with the power, water pressure was amazing! And there was no issue with the sewer. Sites were not exactly level but manageable. Our site sloped forward, so we had to back WAYYYYY back into the site so the front leveling jacks would hit the ground which cut into our outside space. Bring legos. The hookups are pretty far back also. I almost had to buy a sewer extension and my water and power lines were stretched ALMOST to their extents. The sites we were in (right across from the boat dock) are VERY narrow and very deep. Table/firepit placement was really awkward and weird to use. Lots of people walking through our site, not realizing it was our site. Location is great. Good cycling routes (if you love epic hills/climbs - whew. 970 ft of gain in 4 miles), fishing from the park, boating from the park, there is a launch into Bull Shoals Lake less than 5 minutes away if you want to do that (we kayaked the lake, super nice). The town of Bull Shoals has all the shops you'll need for basic supplies. Grocery and hardware store. That's about it really. Great place. I'm giving it a 9 because the sites (we stayed in) were really awkward. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Motorhome.

This state park is the best! Right on the river and there's a wonderful trout dock with fishing supplies and gifts, including cast iron cookware. Many classes and tours held by staff here, are all worthwhile. Dutch oven cooking, hiking, bird watching, Eagle float on the river and many more. Bicycles for rent, firewood for sale. Super clean and climate controlled bath houses! Fishing for trout is good here, dependent upon water releases from the dam. If water isn't too high you will catch fish here.

If you don't like this park you shouldn't be camping! Site surfaces are asphalt, dirt and grass with some shade. Sites feature a fire ring and picnic table.

I do think they need work in their reservation system as many sites are reserved for a day and that makes it hard to get a week in one site. Maybe do not assign one or two nighters in the prime area, have a section for that. Or first come first served on a certain area. As many popular state parks do. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Travel Trailer.

Gastons is at the other end of the road, drive down and see the peacocks and sometimes planes taking off on grassy landing strip.

Get fishing info at the trout dock in the park and catch a couple trout for dinner. There's a Harps grocery store and a liquor store in Bull Shoals across the dam. Club 178 is a good restaurant there.

Great trout fishing on the White River. Beware that stream could be very high like it was this year since they're releasing lots of water until November. If you are coming for fishing check river conditions first.

Overall Rating:

Everyone agrees, this park is in a beautiful location, so I won't dwell on that. I'm writing this from the perspective of a family traveling in a 40' RV + toad. (Not campers, but travelers.) As beautiful as this park is, there were some issues we just couldn't get past, making it unlikely that we'll be back. (1) The front office staff is downright rude. In every encounter we had with them, they were rude and condescending. I got the impression that they cater to locals and really weren't interested in our business. (2) The vast majority of the sites were occupied by "campers", not "RV travelers." Now, there's nothing wrong with campers, but these folks had no regard for your site. They would just barge right through, and they didn't hesitate to be ugly toward us as they interloped. (3) We were the largest rig in the park. Most of the sites were occupied by bumper pull campers and short fifth wheels. The site was very difficult to back into with a tree right next to the pavement on each side of the approach. (4) There was no trash service. Most Arkansas state parks offer trash cans every 4 or 5 sites, but not this one. There were 2 dumpsters located about half a mile from our area. Each night when I would take the trash, I'd have to dodge the critters running out of the dumpster. (5) Very few sites are level enough to avoid using boards. Virtually all of those are in Area A. Generally, the higher the site number at this park, the more unlevel and fewer hookups you get. All sites in A have sewer as well as a handful in B near the bathhouse. (6) There was no presence by the on site ranger. When we did see him, he was sitting on a stool in the office. In the 4 days we stayed. we never saw him drive through the park. We camped at Bull Shoals - White River State Park in a Motorhome.
