This is a lovely campground in Hot Springs National Park. Although it's first come, first served, we were able to easily secure a site (late Sept). Our site was a concrete pad, very level (not always a given with concrete for some reason). Our site backed up to the stream. Sites are private with foliage separating. Full hookups, good T-Mobile and AT&T cell coverage. We didn't watch TV so unsure of over-the-air channel availability. We highly recommend this campground. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Highly recommend getting an America the Beautiful pass ($80 annual if you are under 62). This cuts the rate 50% in this park. Check in and site selection is self-service.

Beautiful park, spacious sites, nicely wooded but we were still able to get satellite reception on our site. Campground host was extremely nice and helpful. Our site was not level and it looked like most sites were not level. If not for this I would have rated this campground a 10! Also, there were a lot of ant mounds. I got a few fire ant bites so be careful. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Bath House Row and downtown Hot Springs was fun to walk around. Be sure to take the free Ranger tour at the Fordyce Bath House. Botanical Garden was awesome. Gangster Museum was fun. We hiked the Sunset Trail which needed better trail marker signs.

Pretty campground with FULL hookups, sites of various sizes, pretty stream. We arrived around noon and were able to find a large site in the middle. Our site was not level front to back, but most were. No road noise inside our camper. Sites were filled almost as soon as someone pulls out, so have a plan B in place. Pick a site, then use the kiosk at the registration building to pay. Concrete picnic table, grill and fire ring. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

We enjoyed this park very much, especially the full hook-ups for such a low price. (Our rate reflects the 50% senior discount.) Our site was a back-in next to the creek and was paved with a picnic table. No fire pit, but there was a grill. Good location for exploring the town and nice hiking up the hill right from the campground. There probably would be some road noise, but with our windows closed, we heard nothing. One bar of ATT LTE, but it was pretty unusable with out boosting. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived on a Thursday and there were about 15 sites to choose from. I think we got one of the best, right on the creek and by a little water fall too. The camp hosts call into the rangers at 10 and 4 and give them the number of open sites left. We called on our way in and got the good news, though I would recommend having a plan B just in case they are filled in. All the sites are full hook up and paved. The kiosk where you pay is simple to use and takes credit cards. The camp hosts saw us walking around looking at the available sites and gave us a lift and tour in the golf cart. We played in the creek. We hiked the 4 mile round trip trail into town several times. We had only planned to be in the area for 3 nights, but loved the campground and the hot springs area so much we kept extending our stay, which is a great advantage to a no reservation campground. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Start at the National Park visitors center and take ond of their free tours. Also the city's visitors center is worth stopping in for more local information too. Parking is free in town at sites with meters after 5:00 and on weekends. There is also a free parking garage in town too.

Since you can't make reservations at this campground we decided to come a little early to check it out. Upon arrival which was a Thursday we founds several empty sites and we styles in for a 3 night stay which ended up being a 4 night stay. We chose a site on a running creek with shoe trees. It is perfect. The site is spacious with a concrete pad with all the amenities - electric, water and sewer. The site is level and comes with a cool breeze. From this campground you can easily access the downtown bathhouses which we soaked it for $20. We took a ride up to Mount Ida which is the quartz crystal capital of the world. You can go into the mine or field and keep whatever you find for the senior rate of $6 each. Everyday we were here there were camp sights open even over the weekend, so don't worry about it being filled. This might change on the summer, we camped in the second week of May. I highly recommend this campground, it is beautiful, clean and very peaceful. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.

We arrived at the end of the day and got the last campsite available at this lovely NPS campground. Unlike other NPS campgrounds we've visited, these sites are full service. The campground is lovely and wooded and right next to a delightful, rippling stream. The other campers were all friendly and courteous. Our site may have still been available because it was not very level, nothing that boards under the tires couldn't fix. The water was so delicious that we emptied our holding tank and filled it up. There is an odd system of paying for the campsite in an ATM type device located in a central building. A camp host was there to help us through the process. We were on a tight schedule to get someplace and regret that we couldn't have spent more than 1 night here. Definitely a place that we will return to. This campground is located in Hot Springs National Park and is all FHU sites. It is a really nice campground although some of the sites are a little close together. We had a perfect site (#27) that had shrubs on both sides for privacy an backed up to Gulpha Gorge Springs. It is first come first serve, so we felt fortunate to get the spot we did. Our site was level, we saw several of the interior sites that needed many blocks to level. I've read some reviews about the homeless using this park. We met one person that said he was homeless but he had a tent on a campsite so I'm assuming he paid. It was in the 30's several nights so he said he was going to go to Walmart for the night. A single lady told us one of the tenters came knocking at her door asking for coffee, so she ended up moving sites to be closer to the camp hosts. Probably our biggest complaint would be that the park is not secure and it does have a lot of people coming through it. We did see a ranger drive through a couple of times a day, but evidently the camp hosts are only there to keep the facilities clean. It was a self-serve check in. All utilities worked well. AT&T coverage was good as was Verizon. We were able to get a satellite signal at our site. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

This is a very nice campground, all sites are FHU sites with 50AMP, there are 44 sites but only 39 for the general public. All sites are back in sites. There is a dump station and water fill site. I wouldn't call it a full big rig campground, there are many short sites, big rigs can get around the campground, be carefull. All streets and sites are paved, this is a nonreservation park, all sites are first come first served. Verizon has a great signal, over air TV is good, dish may work in some sites. Plenty of things to do in the area. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Fifth Wheel.

Overall Rating:

Excellent campground with strong pros and cons. The newly installed full hookups are awesome. Nice compact hookup pad right next to the parking space, with water, sewer, and power that is clean, easy, and functional. Full hookups for $15 (with NP senior pass) is reason enough for high rating, but the campground itself is very lovely. Nicely shaded, easy access, and many sites right on Gulpha Creek. The automated pay system is like an ATM, and couldn't be easier. Key in the site number you want, answer whether you're eligible for the Sr. discount, put in the number of nights, swipe credit card, and you're done. Machine spits out the tag/receipt to hang on the site post.

As is usually the case, all sites are not equal. With the exception of only a couple, the creekside sites are so close to one another, the picnic table is practically wedged between your RV and the one next to you. We were very lucky to get site 30, which had a lot of space and greenery on both sides, so we did have a fair amount of privacy. However, site 30 also has a street light, so our star gazing was rudely impacted. The creek is nice, and the grassy site made it a great place to sit in our lawn chairs by the water. All sites have pedestal grills, but not all have fire pits. We were committed to site 30 before realizing there was no fire pit (which is usually important to us), but snagging a site by the creek with so much space to either side outweighed the absence of a pit.

The sites on the loops farthest from the creek are much more spacious, but the AR-7 Spur road runs right alongside the easternmost loop. The noise from passing cars is bad enough, but the big rig Jake Brakes are awful, and a lot of trucks use this road. If you've never heard Jake Brakes, it sounds like a 50 caliber machine gun. Not so conducive to peaceful mountain camping. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

Tips for other Campers:

The hiking trails in the park are plentiful, and very well marked and maintained. The 1.6 mile Dead Chief Trail takes you right to the Visitor Center, which should not be missed! It is essentially a free four-story museum. Go to The Arlington Hotel and take the elevator to the 4th Floor (ignore the sign that says, "Registered Guests Only Beyond This Point" and look for the Al Capone Suite. Have a drink at the Ohio Club (former speakeasy). Pass on the overpriced thermal baths.

Felt fortunate to find a creek side site here! Yes, spaces here are tight, close together & most are not level but park has just upgraded all sites to full hook up including sewer & auto pay system NOW accepts credit cards. Each site seems to have a grill OR fire pit, but not both. A wonderful mix of campers made our 2 night stay most interesting. Used the 1.4 mi. hiking trail into town since we travel in 26 ft. Class C without toad. Trail into town is well maintained, with moderate inclines. That said, only steep incline is just as you are entering town by the Fordyce Visitor Center. On the way home, there are stone stairs & a steep uphill climb on the trail that was a challenge for this 70-year old short legged lady! Just wish we could have lingered another couple of days here .... We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Motorhome.

We loved staying at the Gulpha Gorge Campground. Our full hookup site was a nice size and we felt like we had plenty of room even during the July 4th weekend. We did arrive early and scope out a spot where someone was leaving since the park was full that weekend. We ended up staying about 5 days and hiking the trails. I wish we'd been able to get a site on the river...maybe next time.

The sites didn't have fire rings, but did have grills. The bathrooms (no showers) were serviceable and smelled clean enough, but the wall could have used a good scrubbing to remove dust, mold and cobwebs. We camped at Gulpha Gorge Campground (NPS Campground) in a Travel Trailer.
